Middleburg was established in 1787 by Leven Powell, one of Virginia's founding fathers. Following a long decline after the Civil War, the arrival of foxhunting in 1904 gave the town an international reputation for breeding, showing, and racing Thoroughbred horses. Over the ensuing decades, Middleburg would undertake significant historic preservation, but the town would also be remarkable for its laissez-faire attitude toward the rich and famous. Movie stars and presidents were seduced not only by Middleburg's horses, hounds, and history, but also by its respect for the privacy of its more renowned residents and visitors. In Middleburg, photographs from the collections of local residents Howard Allen and Tyler Gore as well as from the National Sporting Library, the Library of Congress, and other sources were chosen to reflect the character and charm of this historic village.
For much too long the traditional medical community has ignored, misdiagnosed, and mistreated millions of women suffering from symptoms of hormone imbalance. Now, a world-renowned expert explains a safer and more natural approach to treating hormone-related conditions like PMS, weight gain, mood swings, and hot flashes. The controversy continues to rage like hormones: The safety and efficacy of synthetic hormone replacement therapies (HRT) versus human-identical hormones. In this second edition of the widely successful guide From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well, world-renowned physician expert, C.W. Randolph, Jr., M.D., and Genie James team up to challenge the continual promotion by the pharmaceutical industry--and the physicians they have brainwashed--of dangerous synthetic hormones. In this hard-hitting book, Dr. Randolph and Ms. James expose the shocking truth that for decades, whenever most women have complained to their doctor about menopausal symptoms, the traditional approach treatment has put both their health and their lives at risk. As a board certified gynecologist who has treated women with hormone balances for over a decade, Dr. Randolph contends that there is--and has been--a safe and effective alternative to synthetic hormones: Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). Hormone Hell to Hormone Well shows readers how to: Eradicate a "one-size-fits-all" approach to HRT and empower women to discover and maintain her 'hormonal equilibrium' through her changing lifecycle Understand the new breakthroughs and discoveries in human-identical hormone therapy Naturally replace the hormones that have decreased with age--with the science that supports the health benefits of biidentical hormone therapy Enjoy vast improvements in mental and emotional health as well as resolving physical issues, including weight gain, depression, osteoporosis, hot flashes, low sex drive, and fatigue

Unwell Writing Centers focuses on the inroads the wellness industry has made into higher education. Following graduate and undergraduate writing tutors during a particularly stressful period (2016–2019), Genie Nicole Giaimo examines how top-down and bottom-up wellness interventions are received and taken up by workers. Engaging sociocultural research on how workers react to and experience workplace conflict, Giaimo demonstrates the kinds of interventions welcomed by workers as well as those that fall flat, including the “easy” fixes to workplace issues that institutions provide in lieu of meaningful and community-based support. The book is broken into sections based on journeying: searching for wellness, finding wellness, and imagining a “well” future that includes a sustainable model of writing center work. Each chapter begins with a personal narrative about wellness issues in writing centers, including the author’s experiences in and responses to local emergencies. She shares findings from a longitudinal assessment study on non-institutional interventions in writing centers and provides resources for administrators to create more ethical "well" writing centers. The book also includes an appendix of training documents, emergency planning documents, and several wellness-specific interventions developed from anti-racist, anti-neoliberal, and organizational theories. Establishing the need for a field-specific response to the austerity-minded eruption of wellness-focused interventions in higher education, Unwell Writing Centers is a critical text for graduate students and new directors that can easily be applied in workplaces in and outside of higher education.
Ships challenge the physically handicapped; high sills & narrow doors often block them. This well-researched book describes over one hundred of the best cruise ships, long distance ferries (including overnight ones), river cruises, & hotel canal barges with handicapped facilities & the limiting physical barrier dimensions of other typical ships. They range from small expeditionary or luxury, to large & "popular," designs from classic to the latest glittering palaces; some cruise all the world's 7 seas & all its continents. Australia has one accessible river boat, the former East Germany another, with few scattered between. Canal barges in France, too. Much better are the world's large, long distance ferries, many with good handicapped & overnight facilities. Dozens of ferries with handicapped facilities serve the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, all of Canada's Maritime Provinces & Europe, too. From a BERLITZ travel publisher of an early draft,..."eminently practical, well-written & logically organized..." This handy guide is useful to both neophyte & experienced voyager alike, handicapped or not. Experienced sailors, both authors know ships & handicapped travel well, one as a polio paraplegic since 12, the other with a graduate Naval Engineer degree from MIT following commissioning from Annapolis & several years sea duty.
