A while back, I made the mistake of walking into the VA hospital in Loma Linda, California, to get a right knee implant. How was I supposed to know the surgeon was lying about his rate of success? He lost my upper partial dental plate, the titanium prothesis became infected, and my right knee is now frozen in a bent position. I can't stand up, I'm not comfortable lying down, I'm horribly scarred, I can't drive, and I'm stuck in a rickety wheelchair that desperately needs a front end alignment. They addicted me to morphine and sent me home to die. God help me before I'm dead and gone. Quacks is about negligence, malpractice, and abuse in VA nursing homes. Read it to find out how to change the VA system for the better.

This is an account of the Second Coming as witnessed by a homeless alcoholic. While loosely modeled on the initial books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), it interjects humor into the classic story (as is needed to hold the attention of modern readers) and presents it in a more readily understood contemporary format. Thus, Mary becomes Marya, a poor 16 year-old girl from Central Los Angeles, an evil televangelist takes the place of the money changers at the temple, and our bureaucracy is substituted for that of Rome's.

While famous people, such as actress Grace Kelly and author Gay Talese, called Ocean City home, most of the people in this book are ordinary citizens. Many of these families are third and fourth generation. Some trace their roots back to the Lakes, others have grandparents or great-grandparents who came here as immigrants. Still others have moved here more recently; all contribute to making Ocean City a wonderful place to live and work.
