Drawing on a lifetime’s experience and research in education, Frank Coffield brings together some of his previously published papers to assess the impact of a wide range of national educational policies and to examine the role of the state in public education. He concludes that damage has been done to education by political parties of both right and left and that damage will not be reversed until: further, vocational and adult education receive the same levels of commitment and resource as other sectors; serious steps are taken to tackle Britain’s unacceptable levels of poverty; and the powers of the state are reduced. Among the unresolved challenges highlighted are the plight of young people from deprived estates; their tactics in dealing with unemployment; the task of improving learning, schools, inspection, and system governance; the failure to increase productivity being blamed solely on education; and the dysfunctional and undemocratic political framework on which education reform is forced to depend. An essential read for anyone in education, this provocative criticism of our past and current educational 'system' provides an accessible as well as a humorous critique of educational policy and politics.
This text seeks to analyse and explain inequality, challenging traditional conceptions and providing a new critical perspective. The authors provide a comprehensive historical account of inequality, and show how that account no longer adequately explains the new and different forms of inequality experienced in recent decades. As society has changed, they argue, new forms of inequality have emerged, conditioning the subject's very experience of identity, embodiment and politics. The book is at once a critical overview of contemporary inequality and a thorough-going textbook suitable for undergraduates.
Structured around key excluded groups, such as the elderly, ethnic minorities, the disabled and rural communities, this book offers an assessment of sports policy in contemporary Britain.

The Bible has always been the perfect example of a completed story. However, our history books in the United States have always been incomplete for the African Americans. Why? Because in the beginning days of Negroes (as they were called in those days), they were considered nothing but property. They had no history or voice, therefore were not felt to be important by the writers of history. So the Afro-American history was omitted and passed over. This book explores the omitted African American history through a fictional character, the Unknown Voice. Our journey unveils spectacular creations, amazing acts, outstanding accomplishments, disturbing acts, catastrophic events, and the advancement of a culture. We will give an ear to the unknown voice destined to be heard.
Everyone acknowledges the presence of a higher power but wonders what their purpose is in life. My book helps define to that person how God loves them and will never forsake them.
Life is a four-way crossroad with a stop sign to the left, one to the right and no sign going up to Heaven or where you are. Our struggles and hardships take us to that point in which we will have to make a choice on the direction in which we must travel. Our decision mold us into what we are but most important where we are to end. I try to live my life the best I can but only in Christ do I lay my trust and my life. You will encounter trails and struggles but God will provide the light so that you may find your way out. He will also provide the strength and encouragement for which we may stand. We must remember this trials and struggles are only bad or negative if we allow them to be. God utilities these stops in our lives to draw us closer to him and to mold our character and personalities. The truth is, our struggles and trails are a blessing moments from God. Life don't have to be a struggle however life will give you struggle and God will give the way out of them. My life has shown me that if I try to control my destiny, I will fail however with God in control of my future, it's boundless and full of possibilities.
In The Human Paradox: Worlds Apart in a Connected World, author Frank Gaffikin probes widely and meticulously into our past and present to analyse the connections between the many acute polarisations that mark contemporary times. Addressing profound issues related to Trumpism, Brexit, the outbreak of Covid-19 and ensuing pandemic, and environmental change, the book argues that beneath all the present social tumult lies a fundamental dilemma for human stability and progress, namely how we can be estranged from what we refer to as humanity. The book begins with an appraisal of populism and authoritarian nationalism, and later explores whether, in our human development, we are bound for enhancement or extinction. Interrogating these big ideas further, the book identifies three central challenges that confront us as a society: living on the planet, living with the planet, and living with one another on the planet. These challenges prompt a re-think of what it is to be human and social, and hinging on these key themes, the book thus concludes with consideration of a radical agenda for future social improvement. Rather than peering through the conventional lenses offered by separate disciplines, this book argues for interdisciplinary appreciation and recognition, especially so if we are to address the dilemma at the center of its concern. The Human Paradox will appeal to readers interested in the major conflicts of our times, as well as students of subjects including sociology, politics, history, and economics.
