Really alive in dark times! The innocent word is foolish. A stretched forehead means insensitivity. Whoever laughs, hasn't known the terrible news yet." From Bertolt Brecht's lyric (1938): "To those who will come". This collection of my poems comes from the tormented period we are experiencing, as spectators or actors of a difficult era, of a period of transition towards new and inscrutable horizons of history, now unknown to us. My verses represent a tribute of hope in a better world and the hope that humanity will not sink into a new Middle Ages. Considering the brutality of what is happening both in the microcosm of the family and in the macrocosm of society due to terrorist factions, including ISIS, I felt the need to raise my humble voice together with the choral voice of more enlightened contemporary poets. Heinous murders, especially against unarmed women and children, perpetrated inside the domestic walls, on one side; massacres and massacres not only at the gates, but also within the heart of the West, on the other hand, tend in a different way to make us withdraw on positions of subordination to brute force and of relegation towards an intolerant barbarism. In addition to all this, there are the current problems resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic that is bringing the whole world to its knees. Hence the name "Damned Times" which distinguishes this simple collection of verses. Therefore, forgive me some blunder or redundancy of style, the metric or the lack of metric that the different emotional situations have aroused in me according to the various circumstances. I had the audacity to translate some poems of mine into English. Forgive me for any mistakes, since - although I use English as my custom and ambition - I cannot consider myself a perfect connoisseur of this idiom. In addition to the topical poems, I added others of love or aimed at contemplating nature and, in particular, the sea. Precisely from this latter element, which characterizes my historical town Gaeta (Lazio region) stretching out over the Tyrrhenian Sea, I have drawn the poetic and descriptive force of situations and alternating seasons. Dr. Arch. FRANCA COLOZZO ̶ an Italian Architect/writer/novelist, poet, educationist, retired teacher of “Drawing and History of Art” in Italy and Istanbul (Turkey) on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ̶ has been nominated in March 2018 Global Goodwill Ambassador (GGA Director~ITALY) by the influencer Richard DiPilla (Virginia – USA) and, in March 2019, INSPAD ~Ambassador of Peace & CEO of IHC~Intenational Harmony Council by Dr. Muhammad Tahir Tabassum, President of INSPAD ~ Institute of Peace and Development, in Islamabad (Pakistan), a NGO incorporated with the UN with special observer status & Think Tank based in Islamabad (Pakistan) and Belgium. During the seven years spent abroad, thanks to her multi-ethnic and multi-cultural experience, she organized exhibitions of Art at the Italian High School I.M.I., the Italian Institute of Culture and the most prestigious universities in Istanbul (Turkey). Multi-tasked, creative and enthusiastic with strong belief in organizational innovation, she is an excellent team worker even in a multicultural context. Passionate about justice, attentive to the rights of the weakest social classes and the importance of the education of women and children, her current focus is in writing novels, poems, essays, articles on different newspapers and blogs about Human Rights, Kashmir, Peace, environmental problems, refugees, women’s empowerment, education and health related programs, etc. She is at present very active on social media to promote peace through articles, comments, publications also on ACADEMIA.edu.

Beach He waded through the countless sands to reach the shore where the small waves were crashing by. The vast dark sea was so calm that he thought it could take away all of his sores. He settled on and converged with the undefined water of the infinite sea. There, he felt a sensation that ran through his spines. However, in the peak of his great enthusiasm and contentment that he just brought into being, he pulled himself back from the peaceful shore, not because his white shoes might get wet, but he had realized something. A something that could diminish the clarity of his emotions, a something that could turn the myriad colors within himself into pitch black, and a something that could reshape the genuine smile that can be seen in his dull face. He realized that after the great happiness he had been taking pleasure in is a sadness to a great extent. The calm before the storm.

Franca Colozzo was born in Gaeta (LT) – Italy, where she currently lives. On 31/03/2018, by Richard Di Pilla, an American influencer and founder of GGA family (Virginia, USA), was nominated Global Goodwill Ambassador and then GGA Director_ITALY and Vice Chairperson of INSPAD Council on behalf of its founder & President, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Tabassum. She graduated with honors in Architecture (an Advanced Master Degree – 5 years), at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome and achieved, in 2007, a Master Degree on New Technologies at the University in Cassino - Italy. Winner of a scholarship by the Chamber of Commerce Latina for her thesis on Urbanism and on historical towns, she has written an Art book: "The bell tower of the Gaeta Dome”, published by the "Historical Cultural Center of Gaeta". After various jobs, both as a freelancer and as a teacher, she was seconded from 1996 to 2002 at the Italian Scientific High School, I.M.I. of Istanbul (Turkey), after having passed several linguistic selections organized by the Italian Foreign Affairs Office (M.A.E.). During the seven years abroad, also thanks to the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural experience, she has organized several exhibitions of Art both at the I.M.I. High School, at the College of the Sisters of Ivrea, at the Italian Institute of Culture and at the most prestigious universities in Istanbul (Robert College, Galata Saray Lisesi, Yildiz Universitesi, etc.). During these exhibitions, she tried to apply in the drawings and in the books her personal studies arising from the poetic and artistic teaching practice. The wish to learn the Turkish language - together with other European languages - has been the driving force for building a bridge between two cultures so different: the Italian and the Turkish ones . The cultural differences between them were filled thanks to the publication, in 1999, of a Catalog of drawings and an illustrated trilingual Vocabulary (Italian, English and Turkish). Coming back to Italy, in September 2002, she tried to instill the foreign activities into the new trial of teaching through exhibitions drawing on the artistic didactic path of the pupils of the High School "LB Alberti " of Minturno (LT), and subsequently those of the High School "M.T. Cicero" Formia (LT) . Following her previous experience, she decided to publish, in 2006, the booklet of poems "Fragments”, a collection of poems that have their roots in the past and in a more recent one, confined to the margins of an adolescent joy of living . She was also selected, 2005, as E.N.D. OIB1, Building Policy - GUIM 06/51, at the EUROPEAN COMMUNITY OF BUXELLES (BELGIUM). From September 2011 she retired from teaching, continuing to practice as a freelance architect, painter and writer of poems, essays and novels.

The UN resolution of July 28, 2010 declared the right to water “a universal and fundamental human right”. Having water gives dignity to people, makes them exist, determines their survival, that is, makes them be. The two verbs, having and being, when it comes to fundamental human rights, coincide. Yet in millions of years man has learned little and, as in a cycle, he is coming back. In fact there is an impoverishment and a hoarding of the resource. Lack of water continues to cause wars and millions of people die every year from diseases transmitted by water. In Italy and in rich countries water continues to be wasted. Even in our areas.
