Over the last decades, the interior of cars has been constantly changing. A promising, yet unexplored, modality are large stereoscopic 3D (S3D) dashboards. Replacing the traditional car dashboard with a large display and applying binocular depth cues, such a user interface (UI) could provide novel possibilities for research and industry. In this book, the author introduces a development environment for such a user interface. With it, he performed several driving simulator experiments and shows that S3D can be used across the dashboard to support menu navigation and to highlight elements without impairing driving performance. The author demonstrates that S3D has the potential to promote safe driving when used in combination with virtual agents during conditional automated driving. Further, he present results indicating that S3D navigational cues improve take-over maneuvers in conditional automated vehicles. Finally, investigating the domain of highly automated driving, he studied how users would interact with and manipulate S3D content on such dashboards and present a user-defined gesture set.

This book examines "new tenements"—dense, medium-rise, multi-storey residences that have been the backbone of European inner-city regeneration since the 1970s and came with a new positive view on urban living. Focusing principally on Berlin, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Vienna, it relates architectural design to an evolving intellectual framework that mixed anti-modernist criticism with nostalgic images and strategic goals, and absorbed ideas about the city as a generator of creativity, locale of democratic debate, and object of personal identification.This book analyses new tenements in the context of the post-functionalist city and its mixed-use neighbourhoods, redeveloped industrial sites and regenerated waterfronts. It demonstrates that these buildings are both generators and outcome of an urban environment characterised by information exchange rather than industrial production, individual expression rather than mass culture, visible history rather than comprehensive renewal, and conspicuous difference rather than egalitarianism. It also shows that new tenements evolved under a welfare state that all over Europe has come under pressure, but still to a certain degree balances and controls heterogeneity and economic disparities.
The endocannabinoid system represents a highly complex lipid-based (neuro-) transmitter system and can be found in nearly all animals. Since the discovery of the two main cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in the early '90, intensive research reviled a substantial influence of this system on many physiological and pathophysiological processes. Direct and selective targeting of the system bears a huge potential for the development of novel therapeutic approaches, especially for the treatment of chronical pain, inflammation or other neurological disorders. Therefore, the endocannabinoid system is a promising target in drug development. In the presented thesis, the design, syntheses and pharmacologic evaluation of substituted coumarins as potential new drug candidates as selective synthetic cannabinoids were investigated. In a combinatorial synthetic approach, several new libraries of new ligands were synthesised and subsequently pharmacological tested. Additionally, in a second project, novel reversible monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) inhibitors have been synthesized and pharmacologically evaluated. Thereby, several important structure-activity relationships for high potency or selectivity were found. Nearly all potencies of the developed inhibitors were determined in the nanomolar regions.
