Acción Cultural Española's fourth edition of the AC/E Digital Culture Annual Report follows an editorial policy of familiarising professionals of the culture sector with the main digital trends they need to be aware of over the coming years. Since 2015, a committee has been advising us on the choice of subjects and authors for the first part of the report. This year, a group of experts analyse issues such as content curation as a means of tackling digital overload, neuroscience applied to technology, the latest advances in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and Big Data applied to culture, and the use of digital technology in music. Each year's edition also includes a field study: the Focus, which reports on cases of good practice in digital technology in a specific discipline. The first edition examined the impact of digital in the world of the performing arts; the second focused on museums; and the third on the use of digital devices at fifty Spanish and international culture festivals. This fourth edition surveys in depth the use of digital technology in the conservation, analysis and dissemination of our cultural heritage. This sector is rapidly growing, leading to a radical change in methodologies and formats which the author, David Ruiz Torres, analyses exhaustively.

Regional mortality differences are one dimension of health inequalities, but its trends and determinants in Germany are widely unknown. This book examines and illustrates patterns of regional mortality in Germany—with focus on small-area differentials—and their changes over time. It identifies explanatory factors at individual and regional level. Mortality differences between eastern and western Germany exist, but small-area mortality differentials are often greater. Though the main spatial mortality patterns remain, this study provides evidence that some distinct changes in the small-area mortality patterns in Germany—especially among women—occurred within a short period of time. Mortality inequalities at younger ages and in behavior-related causes as well as differences in socioeconomic conditions contribute strongly to regional mortality differences in Germany. The book shows that the complex interplay between individual- and regional-level mortality risk factors requires a multidimensional approach to reduce regional mortality inequalities.

The regulation of cross border civil and commercial litigation is a burgeoning EU policy area. In addition, overarching measures have been enacted including the creation of a judicial network and judicial training structures. This book offers the first detailed analysis of the EU's activity in procedural harmonization, spanning civil procedure, private international law and European law. The book situates the development of the policy area and its regulation in relation to broader themes of the European integration process: market building, citizenship, fundamental rights, subsidiarity and governance. It provides a detailed analysis of the legislative measures and assesses their impact on fundamental principles of civil justice, including due process rights. The case-law in the area is also analysed, including the introduction of the principle of mutual recognition. The book concludes with a comparative analysis of the EU's approach with broader international efforts for procedural harmonization.
