Tom stays.”---Eva Hesse In 1964--65, Eva Hesse lived with her husband, sculptor Tom Doyle, in Kettwig-on-the-Ruhr, Germany, at the invitation of a European art collector. During this time, as she did throughout most of her life, Hesse kept diaries and made extensive notations in datebook calendars. These two datebooks, published for the first time as facsimile editions, are accompanied by a third volume that includes an essay on their significance in the artist’s career as well as full transcriptions and annotations. The 1964/65 datebooks impart astonishingly rich personal details about the artist’s life: whom she met and where she traveled, which books she read, and which films and exhibitions she saw and what impression they made on her. Hesse’s notations also reveal invaluable insights into the German art scene of the mid-1960s, her transition from a painter to a sculptor and her often conflicted artistic ambitions, the stresses of her marriage, and the difficulties of returning to Germany, the country that in 1938 she fled with her family to escape Nazi persecution.

Sludge transportation costs can represent a large fraction of the expenses associated with municipal and faecal sludge management. These costs can be mitigated through the use of thermal drying approaches to reduce the sludge volume. This thesis described the application of a novel microwave-based pilot-scale unit as an alternative technology for the sanitisation and drying of sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants and on-site sanitation facilities. The potential economic benefits of volumetric heating, moisture levelling, and increased liquid and vapour migration from the interior to the surface of the product underpins the increasing interest in the use of microwave technology during sludge treatment processes. According to the findings of this study, these factors lead to faster processing times, improved drying rates, and a reduced physical footprint. Furthermore, microwave technology operates as a standalone treatment unit. When coupled with mechanical dewatering techniques and membrane separation technology, it can increase the reliability of the technology employed in the treatment of sludge while recovering valuable resources through an agricultural or thermochemical application such as (co-) combustion. The results of this work demonstrate the strong feasibility of applying microwave-based technology within initiatives designed to protect the environment and safeguard public health.

Even though she loved her childhood home so incredibly much, she didn't only spent a year in Aidlingen and became a pediatric nurse in Stuttgart, but followed God's calling to the Torchbearers in Sweden and later on to a children's home in El Salvador. There she was tormented by pain in her pelvis. A tumor! A long road of suffering began. But in her joy and deep grounded faith up until death she was and still is a big role model to many people to this day. Lydia Holmer has affected many people and inspired many by her faith. She died when she was only 28 years old after a long battle against cancer. Her parents wrote her story down. This book also contains many excerpts from Lydia's diaries.

Die 1859 als Kind deutscher Eltern in Zürich geborene Ottilie W. Roederstein gehörte zu Lebzeiten zu den führenden Malerinnen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Früh genoss sie auch Anerkennung in Paris. Wie nur wenige Frauen ihrer Zeit widmete sie ihr ganzes Leben erfolgreich der Kunst und führte zusammen mit ihrer Lebenspartnerin, der Gynäkologin Elisabeth H. Winterhalter, in Deutschland ein unkonventionelles, aber angesehenes Dasein. Während sich Roedersteins Frühwerk innerhalb der kunstakademischen Konventionen bewegte, öffnete sich die Malerin in ihrem reiferen Werk zunehmend anderen Strömungen, um in den 1920er-Jahren zu einer sachlich-nüchternen Bildsprache zu finden. Trotz ihrer einst internationalen Wertschätzung als Porträtistin und Malerin von Stillleben geriet Roederstein fast unmittelbar nach ihrem Tod 1937 in Vergessenheit. Nach mehreren Jahrzehnten widmen das Kunsthaus Zürich und das Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main ihr die erste monografische Werkschau, die dieser umfassende Katalog begleitet.
