There is more to identity than identifying with one’s culture or standing solidly against it. José Esteban Muñoz looks at how those outside the racial and sexual mainstream negotiate majority culture—not by aligning themselves with or against exclusionary works but rather by transforming these works for their own cultural purposes. Muñoz calls this process “disidentification,” and through a study of its workings, he develops a new perspective on minority performance, survival, and activism.Disidentifications is also something of a performance in its own right, an attempt to fashion a queer world by working on, with, and against dominant ideology. Among them were the workers who started to put bankrupt, abandoned factories to work again in spite of the skepticism of politicians and part of society. Their successful stories surprised those who had expected them to fail and encouraged others to follow their example. In 2003, Esteban Magnani worked for Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein on a documentary on the phenomenon called The Take and wrote a book on recovered factories which is now being reprinted with an update for English speakers.

Gypsum is a type of habitat widely spread throughout the world, especially in arid climates (Somalia, Australia, Middle East, USA, circum-Mediterranean region, etc.). The vegetation present on this type of habitat has long attracted the attention of specialists in the study of flora adapted to special substrates, since gypsum represents an important barrier to the growth of most plants. These ecosystems are little known in comparison to other habitats present on special substrates, even though representing natural laboratories of evolution and ecology. In this context, the Gypworld project has been developed, as a global initiative to understand the ecology of gypsum ecosystems, comes under the European Horizon 2020 research program, and which brings together researchers specialists in the study of gypsum ecosystems, from five continents. Under the umbrella of this project, different scientific meetings have been taking place, being the one held in Almeria, the third of the four that will take place, with the name of 3rd Gypworld Workshop. Thus, this monograph presents the most recent advances in the research of these special ecosystems.

Mas, fueron sus obras literarias "Olgo" y "San Juan y la Burra. El apóstol que llegó tarde", las que le situaron en el plano de los grandes escritores del país, por su extraordinaria narrativa y gran aporte al patrimonio cultural. Su ensayo "Neoliberalismo, Familia y Ruptura de la Pareja", ha servido por años como texto de consulta para profesionales que se especializan en Derecho de Familia colombiano. A comienzos del 2003, llegó a Miami con su esposa y un hijo menor. Allí realizó estudios de Arte Dramático, en "Prometeo", Miami Dade Community College. Algún tiempo después se estableció en Reading, Pensilvania, ciudad donde inicialmente escribió para el Periódico "La Voz", y la revista empresarial "Viwinco" y en la que ha escrito dos libros, "La Franciscana" (inédita) y "La Primate", obra ésta que hoy lanza al mundo.

Optimization of Integer/Fractional Order Chaotic Systems by Metaheuristics and their Electronic Realization

Mathematicians have devised different chaotic systems that are modeled by integer or fractional-order differential equations, and whose mathematical models can generate chaos or hyperchaos. The numerical methods to simulate those integer and fractional-order chaotic systems are quite different and their exactness is responsible in the evaluation of characteristics like Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, and entropy. One challenge is estimating the step-size to run a numerical method. It can be done analyzing the eigenvalues of self-excited attractors, while for hidden attractors it is difficult to evaluate the equilibrium points that are required to formulate the Jacobian matrices. Time simulation of fractional-order chaotic oscillators also requires estimating a memory length to achieve exact results, and it is associated to memories in hardware design. In this manner, simulating chaotic/hyperchaotic oscillators of integer/fractional-order and with self-excited/hidden attractors is quite important to evaluate their Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and entropy. Further, to improve the dynamics of the oscillators, their main characteristics can be optimized applying metaheuristics, which basically consists of varying the values of the coefficients of a mathematical model. The optimized models can then be implemented using commercially available amplifiers, field-programmable analog arrays (FPAA), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA), microcontrollers, graphic processing units, and even using nanometer technology of integrated circuits. The book describes the application of different numerical methods to simulate integer/fractional-order chaotic systems. These methods are used within optimization loops to maximize positive Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, and entropy. Single and multi-objective optimization approaches applying metaheuristics are described, as well as their tuning techniques to generate feasible solutions that are suitable for electronic implementation. The book details several applications of chaotic oscillators such as in random bit/number generators, cryptography, secure communications, robotics, and Internet of Things.

Dominguez and Prevost argue that U.S. policy toward Cuba is driven in significant measure by developments on the ground in Cuba. From the U.S. intervention at the time of the Cuban Independence War to the most recent revisions of U.S. policy in the wake of the Powell Commission, the authors demonstrate how U.S. policy adjusts to developments and perceived reality on the island. The final chapters of the book focus on the contemporary period, with particular emphasis on the changing dynamic toward Cuba from U.S. civil society. Dominguez and Prevost describe how the U.S. business community, fearful of being isolated from Cuba's reinsertion in the world's capitalist markets, have united with long-standing opponents of the U.S. embargo to win the right to sell food and medicines to Cuba over the last four years. Ultimately, the authors are realists about the possibility of better relations between the U.S. and Cuba, pointing out that, short of the collapse of Cuba's current political and economic system, fundamental change in U.S. policy toward the island is unlikely in the immediate future.

Como escritor ha cultivado numerosos géneros y en el catálogo de Renacimiento y Espuela de Plata pueden encontrarse una buena muestra de sus trabajos con libros como Vituperio (y algún elogio) de la errata (2002), Judas... ¡Hi... de puta! Insultos y animadversión entre españoles (2003), Las mil y una palabras de casa de putas (2005) o El epigrama español (2008). Su labor como librero y editor de Turner fue fundamental para animar la cultura española durante el postfranquismo y la transición. Desde entonces ha sido responsable y asesor de un sinfín de ediciones, sobre todo de autores bohemios o finiseculares, y actualmente dirige para esta editorial la colección Biblioteca de Rescate, donde han aparecido ediciones suyas de Isidoro López Lapuya, Ciro Bayo o Manuel Ciges Aparicio.
