Erin Ruel's 100 Questions (and Answers) About Survey Research covers the entire survey research process, starting with developing research questions and ending with the analysis and write-up. It includes the traditional survey topics of design, sampling, question writing, and validity; includes a chapter on research ethics; covers the important topics of preparing, cleaning, and analyzing data; and ends with a section on how to write up survey results for a variety of purposes. Useful as a supplementary text in the classroom or as a reference guide for anyone starting a new survey project, the guidance is presented in a FAQ style to allow readers to jump around the book, so as to accommodate the nonlinear and iterative nature of research.
Focusing on the use of technology in survey research, this book integrates both theory and application and covers important elements of survey research including survey design, implementation and continuing data management.

KEY FEATURES: Introduces students to developing research questions and shows their importance in driving research design. Rarely taught topics, such as how to enter and clean data, offer students information missed in both research methods and statistics courses. Shows how to write up survey results for academic, business and nonprofit reports to alleviate the confusion students feel about how to write up findings. Rigorous treatment of sampling focuses on many sampling issues from probability theory to weighting. Offers the process of actually conducting a survey with advice on administering surveys, incentives, and improving response rates.
Written by leading Conflict of Laws scholars, Conflict of Laws: Cases and Materials, Eighth Edition, presents a balanced study of Conflict of Laws, otherwise known as Private International Law. The book begins with a discussion of traditional approaches to choice-of-law problems, both inter-state and international, followed by an examination of how modern courts and commentators have struggled to formulate new and better approaches. The remaining broad topics—constitutional limitations on choice of law, personal jurisdiction, conflicts in the federal system, recognition and enforcement of judgments, extraterritorial application of federal law, choice of legal regimes, and choice of law in complex litigation—are considered in light of the wisdom derived from consideration of the basic choice-of-law problems. New to the Eighth Edition: Addition of new co-author Carlos M. Vázquez, a leading scholar in Conflict of Laws as well as the adjacent fields of International Law and Foreign Relations Law Expanded coverage of Conflict of Laws in the international context, with a focus on the increasingly important topic of extraterritorial application of federal law New Supreme Court decisions on personal jurisdiction and constitutional limits on choice of law Expanded coverage of choice of law in marriage and divorce Discussion of draft Third Restatement of Conflict of Laws Professors and students will benefit from: A balance of historical and recent cases, with problems that test application of case precedents A balance between theoretical and practical aspects of Conflict of Laws, with coverage of state law and comparative perspectives where appropriate Focus on Choice of Law Broader coverage of extraterritorial application of federal law than any leading Conflict of Laws casebook Modern applications to internet disputes, complex litigation, party autonomy, and jurisdictional competition, among other cutting-edge topics
Shirakaba and Japanese Modernism examines the most significant Japanese art and literary magazine of the early twentieth century, Shirakaba (White Birch, 1910–1923). In this volume Erin Schoneveld explores the fluid relationship that existed between different types of modern visual media, exhibition formats, and artistic practices embraced by the Shirakaba-ha (White Birch Society). Schoneveld provides a new comparative framework for understanding how the avant-garde pursuit of individuality during Japan’s Taishō period stood in opposition to state-sponsored modernism and how this played out in the emerging media of art magazines. This book analyzes key moments in modern Japanese art and intellectual history by focusing on the artists most closely affiliated with Shirakaba, including Takamura Kōtarō, Umehara Ryūzaburō, and Kishida Ryūsei, who selectively engaged with and transformed modernist idioms of individualism and self-expression to create a new artistic style that gave visual form to their own subjective reality. Drawing upon archival research that includes numerous articles, images, and exhibitions reviews from Shirakaba, as well as a complete translation of Yanagi Sōetsu’s seminal essay, “The Revolutionary Artist” (Kakumei no gaka), Schoneveld demonstrates that, contrary to the received narrative that posits Japanese modernism as merely derivative, the debate around modernism among Japan’s early avant-garde was lively, contested, and self-reflexive.
