The Duke of Saint-Simon (1675-1755) was a self-obsessed courtier and chronicler of court life under Louis XIV. Drawing heavily on his memoirs, historian Ladurie offers a wonderful portrait of life with Louis, focusing on issues of hierarchy and rank in this tightly controlled universe. Illustrations.
We learn who we are as we walk together in the way of Jesus. So I want to invite you on a pilgrimage. Rwanda is often held up as a model of evangelization in Africa. Yet in 1994, beginning on the Thursday of Easter week, Christians killed other Christians, often in the same churches where they had worshiped together. The most Christianized country in Africa became the site of its worst genocide. With a mother who was a Hutu and a father who was a Tutsi, author Emmanuel Katongole is uniquely qualified to point out that the tragedy in Rwanda is also a mirror reflecting the deep brokenness of the church in the West. Rwanda brings us to a cry of lament on our knees where together we learn that we must interrupt these patterns of brokenness But Rwanda also brings us to a place of hope. Indeed, the only hope for our world after Rwanda’s genocide is a new kind of Christian identity for the global body of Christ—a people on pilgrimage together, a mixed group, bearing witness to a new identity made possible by the Gospel.
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From two New York Times bestselling authors, a timely, disarmingly honest, and thought-provoking investigation into antisemitism that connects the dots between the tropes and hatred of the past to our current complicated moment. For Emmanuel Acho and Noa Tishby no question about Jews is off-limits. They go there. They cover Jews and money. Jews and power. Jews and privilege. Jews and white privilege. The Black and Jewish struggle. Emmanuel asks, Did Jews kill Jesus? To which Noa responds, “Why are Jewish people history’s favorite scapegoat?” They unpack Judaism itself: Is it a religion, culture, a peoplehood, or a race? And: Are you antisemitic if you’re anti-Zionist? The questions—and answers—might make you squirm, but together, they explain the tropes, stereotypes, and catalysts of antisemitism in America today. The topics are complicated and Acho and Tishby bring vastly different perspectives. Tishby is an outspoken Israeli American. Acho is a mild-mannered son of a Nigerian American pastor. But they share a superpower: an uncanny ability to make complicated ideas easy to understand so anyone can follow the straight line from the past to our immediate moment—and then see around corners. Acho and Tishby are united by the core belief that hatred toward one group is never isolated: if you see the smoke of bigotry in one place, expect that we will all be in the fire. Informative and accessible, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Jew has a unique structure: Acho asks questions and Tishby answers them with deeply personal, historical, and political responses. This book will enable anyone to explain—and identify—what Jewish hatred looks like. It is a much-needed lexicon for this fraught moment in Jewish history. As Acho says, “Proximity breeds care and distance breeds fear.”
Mr. Okoro has written a work of deep faith. Gods Best Gift in ugly Wrapping is a powerful and yet subtle treatise by a practical Christian. The author brings together practical experiences to bear upon biblical narratives in ways that bring the Christian messages home to the reader. This is a handbook on Christian faith, charity, piety and fortitude, exploring and explicating the mysteries of Gods presence in the life of a Christian, as well as, His disposition towards the exigencies of human existentialism. In the authors view, the faithful must endure the vicissitudes of life in order to attain heaven or the beatific vision, which is the ultimate good or the Summum Bonnum as St. Thomas Aquinas puts it. This is indeed a good read. Professor Chieke Ihejirika, Lincoln University PA, USA.
This book traces and clarifies steps towards the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham through the twists and turns of Israelite history to culminate in the unexpected manner of its fulfillment. The manner of the fulfillment is to be understood not through prophecy but through Levitical Law, which Jesus declared he had come to observe and not set aside. To do otherwise would ignore that declaration and inevitably distort the nature of Jesus’ mission and salvific work. This book accordingly provokes new questions but also leads to conformable answers. Why would the magi come from Babylon to worship a Judahite baby? Why was there the temptation in the wilderness? Why did Jesus establish a priesthood? How does Levitical law explain Jesus’ missing body? Above all, what does it really mean to say that the Son of God and Lord of life died?
This book provides a survey on different kinds of Feistel ciphers, with their definitions and mathematical/computational properties. Feistel ciphers are widely used in cryptography in order to obtain pseudorandom permutations and secret-key block ciphers. In Part 1, we describe Feistel ciphers and their variants. We also give a brief story of these ciphers and basic security results. In Part 2, we describe generic attacks on Feistel ciphers. In Part 3, we give results on DES and specific Feistel ciphers. Part 4 is devoted to improved security results. We also give results on indifferentiability and indistinguishability.
Merleau-Ponty has long been known as one of the most important philosophers of aesthetics, yet most discussions of his aesthetics focus on visual art. This book corrects that balance by turning to Merleau-Ponty's extensive engagement with literature. From Proust, Merleau-Ponty developed his conception of “sensible ideas,” from Claudel, his conjoining of birth and knowledge as “co-naissance,” from Valéry came “implex” or the “animal of words” and the “chiasma of two destinies.” Literature also provokes the questions of expression, metaphor, and truth and the meaning of a Merleau-Pontian poetics. The poetic of Merleau-Ponty is, the book argues, a poetic of the flesh, a poetic of mystery, and a poetic of the visible in its relation to the invisible. Ultimately, theoretical figures or “figuratives” that appear at the threshold between philosophy and literature enable the possibility of a new ontology. What is at stake is the very meaning of philosophy itself and its mode of expression.
The Rosary: A rope that connects those who are in anguish with Heaven. A rope that strangles the head of the snake. Every Hail Mary is consolation for the distressed; terror for Satan and joy for Mary. Every Hail Mary hastens the glorious coming of the King." Father Daniel-Ange This book takes us on a journey through the mysteries of the rosary where we contemplate the lives of Jesus and Mary. Everything becomes real. We take Our Lady’s hand and enter the stable of Bethlehem and the Temple of Jerusalem. We walk with her on the roads of Galilee, we suffer with her in the howling crowd before Pilate, we rejoice with Mary of Magdala adoring Jesus, who is victorious over death. As we travel with her, we soak up the graces within each mystery, like children fascinated by what they are watching, and we are transformed by these rays of light that flow from the Gospel. Not only does this book delve deeper than ever into the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries, but there are meditations on 10 never seen before mysteries of Compassion and Mercy! These mysteries expound and bring to life God’s infinite love and mercy for each one of us. Don’t just read this book; live it!
In today's fast-paced world, leaders must do more than just adapt; they need to anticipate the radical shifts happening all around them. In this fully updated edition of The Connected Leader Emmanuel Gobillot makes a compelling argument: traditional leadership models are relics of the past. He builds the case for a new kind of leadership that leverages informal social networks to reconnect with what stakeholders truly value. Packed with original international case studies and unique diagnostic tools, The Connected Leader is a treasure trove of insights. Gobillot’s global bestseller is essential reading for professionals aiming to harness the combined power of people and performance to create thriving organisations and drive meaningful change.
The discarded brick, a three season trilogy, in two volumes, is set in Africa, Europe and North America. It is about the travels and experiences of Emmanuel N. Mukanga who even in childhood, would be moved to a different location every three to five years. Born in the British Protectorate of Uganda, the changing political and economic fortunes of his post-independence homeland and region, led to thousands of his country people to flee and go look for greener pastures all over the world. This desire for a better and safer world, is a human desire and in Europe and North America, Emmanuel found people from other countries, in pursuit of happiness. Back home, not everyone was happy to co-exist with him. Fears and intrigue led to a family split, legal battles and irreconcilable differences. He and his siblings became a pariah to be avoided like the pest, The discarded Brick. Born in 1953, near the shores of Lake Victoria in Eastern Uganda, Emmanuel N. Mukanga was plucked from his parents at the age of three and taken to the Ugandan capital, Kampala. At age six, he was taken to a primary school, near Mbale in Eastern Uganda and at age nine transferred to Entebbe, former seat of the British Protectorate Government. At thirteen, he joined a prestigious boarding secondary school, after which he went to University to study the Arts. One of the reasons Idi Amin gave for expelling the 80,000 strong Indian Community from Uganda in 1972, was that, “they were milking the cow without feeding it,” which was not entirely true. He, who had no cow to milk, did not know that he too would have to leave his country of birth. He worked at Uganda Television, but in 1976, he fled Idi Amin’s Uganda, starting an odyssey that would take him to over 26 countries in Africa, Europe and North America. He interacted with many cultures, however, when it came to a denigration of his culture, at home, then a clash was inevitable. This awakened in him the question, “who are you, where do you come from and what do you stand for?” Cultural clashes, intrigue and legal battles follow. He has included an epilogue reflecting on his life and existence and tracing his origins among the Samia-Luhya, astride Kenya and Uganda. He started compiling this book in May 2009 and completed it in October 2020 during the great Covid 19 pandemic, and after George Floyd said twelve times, in less than 9 minutes, “Mama, I Can’t Breathe.”
Christians are the products of yesterday, today, and forever. It means that we have the past, present, and future. Everybody has past records; if not well handled with faith, it can ruin your future completely. You need faith in Jesus Christ to remain successful in life. Look for faith and make it the foundational stone that will hold your past, present, and future without any unnecessary anxieties. Friends are important when they are contributing to your success, but when you are the only one carrying their burdens, you will soon be like them—poor. Faith will make you survive when you are left alone. God will never visit you for a special miracle until men will leave you alone in the midst of trouble. There are two people you must trust for your future: Jesus Christ and yourself. A meaningful and outstanding future is the result of faith commanded into critical situation when all hope is lost. Everyone that wants to have a glorious future must look for faith to embrace. You cannot divorce faith and marry future. You never know how important faith is until you know how painful it is to live life without faith. The Bible says, “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17, NKJV). Brethren, it is only those that have faith who will drive into future with fearless minds.
‘The Discarded Brick’, a three season trilogy, in two volumes, is set in Africa, Europe and North America. It is about the travels and experiences of the author. In Volume 2, Season 3, the author and his family return to his home country. Back in Uganda, he was initially welcomed by all with open arms, like the prodigal son. He works on several jobs for the government and in the private sector, till he settles for communication consultancy. Most of these jobs again involved travel within and outside the country. This included a stint in the United States, Greece, Germany and more countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. However, as his brother and guardian, who had earlier lost his only son inched closer to becoming an octogenarian, some of his immediate family members started treating the author like an intruder in their midst. Not everyone was happy to co-exist with him anymore. Fears and intrigue led to a family split, legal battles and irreconcilable differences. He and his siblings were treated like social pariahs that had to be avoided like the pest by some relatives, and this even sucked in some members of his immediate family, who imposed a perennial domestic banishment on him.
Why You Must Abhor poverty itemizes Bible bases to despise poverty in all its ramifications. Prosperity is far better than poverty anyhow one views it. Prosperity gives regard, respect and honour to whoever, including the young and small in stature than the old and big framed. David transformed into the family head by reason of his prosperity and translation into the status of the great and his father and older siblings had to seek refuge under his lifetime umbrella. Poverty breeds disrespect, despising and all manner of frustrating feelings. The little owned by the poor is even sometimes taken and given to the rich.
Faced with a difficult business turnaround, the author, 46 at the time, sought help from his pastor who connected him with Christian executives who were using the Bible to run their businesses. These contacts yielded a biblical foundation for leadership based on Isaiah 9: 6-7a. Three aspects of this scripture are very important – Son, Government and Promises. Son refers to Jesus, Government refers to how we lead, and the Promises are wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Acting on the advice of the Christian executives and his newfound way of understanding God’s Word, Mr. Cooper developed and implemented seven (7) Compelling Leadership Principles, applying them to the turnaround challenge. The holy grail of superior business results, employee engagement, was maximized. All business functions under Mr. Cooper’s leadership started to coalesce and create as never before and real teamwork was achieved. For example, the engineering team was awarded over 100 patents in 18 months! This book tells the story of how the principles were applied and details the amazing transformative achievements of the business and its employees. Prior to developing this book, Mr. Cooper had completed an engineering degree and an executive development MBA in economics. Management experience included all conventional business components while working at several major corporations. As a student and practitioner of leadership he was always looking for the best way to lead his organizations. After leaving industry he taught in several colleges in Florida, North Carolina and Delaware. From his industry experience, especially the challenge to “launch a business in eighteen months or be let go,” he created a college course demonstrating the practical application of his Compelling Leadership Principles. Mr. Cooper continues to seek teaching opportunities and offer help to small businesses.
This book examines the ethics and integrity approach to modelling the rule of law and the international law process by investigating different factors that influence legal and governance systems in society. It explores the foundations of the rule of law and international law, and how to overcome the undesirable deficiencies in our legal and governance systems. The approach of this book is carefully designed to briefly demonstrate how including ethics and integrity when dealing with the rule of law and international law could lead to effective legal and governance systems. This book argues that the rule of law does not stand alone; ethics and integrity are the lifeblood of all legal rules and governance systems. This book is of special interest to academics and researchers within the fields of law, social Justice and philosophy.

This book presents the findings from a cross-sectional survey funded by CIMA. The project aimed to survey senior management accountants working across a range of organisations and industries with a unique focus on the behavioural side of decision making, the use of managerial judgement. Previous capital budgeting surveys have tended to focus on the quantitative evaluation tools and techniques used for project appraisal. This study was broader in that it asked about every stage of the strategic investment decision (SID) process, from initiation to post implementation review, and how different managers were involved at different stages of the process. The focus is on how decision judgements are reached. - Explains Strategic Investment Decisions (SIDs) clearly to management accountants who are expected to be involved in decision making processes - Covers all stages of the SID process, the types of SID and how multiple managers participate in the process - Will help organisations benchmark their own SID practice
How did an old man’s trip to the market to buy fish and vegetables lead to a chain of cause and effect events that would change the religious face of the world forever? Who was Paul of Tarsus? A fanatical Pharisee and ruthless persecutor of Christians and the newborn Christian doctrine? Or a being predestined by divine choice, who converted upon receiving the gift of the apparition of Jesus in a glorious vision at the gates of Damascus? This book will show the reader the greatness of Paul of Tarsus, a courageous, daring and sincere man, who repented for his radical posture that culminated in the stoning of Christianity’s first martyr, Stephen, and who humbly undertook the accelerated revision of his ideas in answer to Jesus’ call. Amid persecutions, in¬rmities, mockery, disillusionment, desertions by friends, stonings, beatings and imprisonments, he transformed his life into an example of labor through dozens of years of struggle by founding churches and rendering them assistance. At some point in our lives, we all receive Christ’s call. What have we done? Paul and Stephen will enable the reader to understand how love erases a multitude of wrongs.

Some of the key questions this life-changing book answers are: Who is the Holy Spirit? How can I know Him? Why do I need Him? How can I be led by Him? How can I develop a relationship with Him? The heart of this book is the necessity of the Holy Spirit and the indispensable friendship He offers. You will be inspired by stories of the author’s personal journey with the Holy Spirit. Providing students on education studies programmes with a clear overview of the key issues they will encounter within the first year, this title enables them to develop a detailed understanding of the power and importance of education.
The book addresses the challenge Jesus put before the disciples when they asked him to release the crowd to go home so they can get some food to eat because it became dark, but instead of releasing the people Jesus asked the disciples to feed the crowd themselves. They were unprepared, they gave all the excuses, but Jesus was serious. He fed the crowd bread, fish. Can pastors and church leaders answer to this challenge within the body of believers' context? The church needs to have an holistic approach in ministry to provide the necessary care for God's flock. The service to Jesus is expressed by the love his servant has for him. Pastors and church leaders can make great difference in believers lives to bring real change that presents the reality of the Gospel. Yes, the believers are on their way to heaven, but they still live on earth. Therefore, they have to deal with many challenges they face in their daily life in this present century. The church is not doing enough to help the people in the pews or chairs, especially the needy person, who face all kinds of challenges. A believer can worship the Lord and feel the presence of God, feel that he or she is ready to go in heaven, but that does not prevent him or her to still struggle with many issues in life such as: Emotional, family, divorce, financial, social, job, spiritual, health, physical, physiological issues just to name a few that I addressed in the book. The bible remains a great source and resource of information for the contribution of biblical leadership of the Old and New Testaments. Jesus is the owner of the church. His love for the church, his investment in the disciples make the church what it is today, his trust and his vision, mission for his church mean a lot and can challenge the pastors and church leaders to do ministry with love. The different challenges the church of Jesus-Christ face in this present century and the church needs to acknowledge and deal with them.
The only thing it takes for anyone to be enlisted in spiritual war of embargo is to be born into this world. A statistic shows six million pregnancies in a year through the whole world, six hundred thousand of those pregnancies were carried to term while only six thousand women carried their babies alive to their homes from the hospital after delivery. This revealed that coming to this world is a war. To be able to stay alive is a war and to be able to succeed in life is another great war. Are you going to stay idle, walk away from your God given destiny or pay the price in other to win the prize? What is the stand of God in these things? What is the stand of the principalities and powers? And what is your own stand? These are the issues addressed in this book. Enjoy the reading and take a bold step to act on what you will discover. In these pages, the harrowing experiences of women in Tanzania are laid bare. Through poignant and insightful narratives, the book delves into the intricate complexities of cultural practices, memory, trauma, and spirituality. It offers a sobering account of the harsh realities women endure, navigating deeply entrenched gendered cultures that assign lower cultural value to womanhood. However, amidst these challenges, the book reveals the remarkable resilience exhibited by women within Tanzanian society. Drawing from the author’s personal background as a descendant of traditional midwives, one who was a former practitioner of female genital mutilation surgery, this raw and unflinching account provides an authentic portrayal of the realities faced by Tanzanian women. The author’s years spent as a rural pastor in Tanzanian villages have endowed him with a unique perspective, enabling him to draw profound parallels between his mother’s journey into womanhood and his wife’s relentless endeavors to combat gender inequality and violence both within and beyond the church. Through this intimate and revealing lens, readers are invited to explore the intricate intersections of gender, culture, and spirituality in Tanzania. The evocative narratives within this book serve as catalysts, inspiring readers to challenge their preconceptions and take a firm stance against the injustices that women endure. With its captivating storytelling and powerful message, this thought-provoking work is an essential read for individuals interested in delving into gender studies, cultural studies, and the pursuit of social justice.
Why Pastors Act Strangely exemplified by Moses Double Standard Dealership Style reveals that Men of Gods mistakes are usually multi-dimensional. There is what we can call Mans Monumental Monstrous Metamorphosis practiced it is that the job of leading the Israelites that Moses rejected earlier, he was no longer eager to give up and be replaced by Korah who volunteered to do so. These do not add up. There is also the subject of Men of Gods Monstrous Mindset, Mannerisms, Methods and Tactics (MGMMMT). It is part of Mans Mind Mutilating Manners and Manliness. Moses was bold and courageous to use his God-given privilege as he deemed fit and to the best of his interest and that of his loved ones. Maybe, God gave His designated representatives in any generation that privilege because fundamentally, He had meant man to take charge of the earth on His behalf as long as man obeyed Him. If so, then Moses was still in order as far as God was concerned.
Aimed at graduate students, researchers and academics in mathematics, engineering, oceanography, meteorology and mechanics, this text provides a detailed introduction to the physical theory of rotating fluids, a significant part of geophysical fluid dynamics. The text is divided into four parts, with the first part providing the physical background of the geophysical models to be analysed. Part II is devoted to a self contained proof of the existence of weak (or strong) solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Part III deals with the rapidly rotating Navier-Stokes equations, first in the whole space, where dispersion effects are considered. The case where the domain has periodic boundary conditions is then analysed, and finally rotating Navier-Stokes equations between two plates are studied, both in the case of periodic horizontal coordinates and those in R2. In Part IV the stability of Ekman boundary layers, and boundary layer effects in magnetohydrodynamics and quasigeostrophic equations are discussed. The boundary layers which appear near vertical walls are presented and formally linked with the classical Prandlt equations. Finally spherical layers are introduced, whose study is completely open.
Herein highlighted is the fact that man is the most inconsistent being God ever made. This makes inconsistency to be one of the greatest guilt of mankind. Circumstance is one of the greatest determinants of human disposition and attitude to any challenge. The best person can as well become the worst depending on his plight.
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19--a disease caused by a virus known as SARS-CoV-2--a global pandemic. The year 2020 was the year that brought global change that requires a global shift, and we can't be tone-deaf to it. This shift demands we respond swiftly to the problems. Novel coronavirus claimed its first victim in Wuhan Province of China. In the blink of an eye, the invisible enemy had soared and has taken the lives of thousands with no regard for social class, race, or status. Those identified as the most powerful in the world were equally affected as money, power, and fame did nothing to stop the virus from spreading. As of April 30, 2021, about 3.17 million people died of COVID-19 worldwide. Many wonder why God, who is Love, would allow humanity to go through these horrendous times. The COVID-19 pandemic storm has revealed the debility of human beings and the perfection of our God. God might not hurriedly change the situation, but He uses the situation to change us. God uses this time to test the faith of those genuinely serving and fully committed to Him. In Canceling Appointment with Death, COVID-19 Pandemic, 'Tayo Emmanuel invites readers around the globe to learn how to dwell in the secret place of the Most High and how to build a personal Noah's Ark for the individual and the family at such a time as this. This secret place of the Most High and Noah's Ark is never a place or a structure. It is Jesus Christ who has established us inside a kingdom that cannot be shaken and who has all things under His perfect control, working all things after the counsel of His own will. How can every appointment with death, including COVID-19 and other future pandemics, be annulled? 'Tayo Emmanuel offers us answers from the revelation of God's Word that all enemies have been placed under Jesus's feet, including death, the last enemy. And the last days' church of Jesus Christ, the many membered body of Christ, are the feet of Jesus Christ that will take Jesus, the head of the body of Christ to every nation of the world to usher in the end of the old and the beginning of the new. But now we see--yet not all things--put under him clearly shows that the Lord Jesus Christ, through the power of His Holy Spirit, is at work at this moment in history.
