“Re-education” consists in training people injured either by illness or the vagaries of life to achieve the best functionality now possible for them. Strangely, the subject is not taught in the normal educational curricula of the relevant professions. It thus tends to be developed anew with each patient, without recourse to knowledge of what such training, or assistance in such training, might be. New paradigms of re-education are in fact possible today, thanks to advances in cognitive science, and new technologies such as virtual reality and robotics. They lead to the re-thinking of the procedures of physical medicine, as well as of re-education. The first part looks anew at re-education in the context of both international classifications of functionality, handicap and health, and the concept of normality. The second part highlights the function of implicit memory in re-education. And the last part shows the integration of new cognition technologies in the new paradigms of re-education.

A casual discussion after an unarranged meeting between three previously unacquainted people who offhandedly found themselves sharing their family problems turn out to be an important lead to deciphering events that happened several years earlier. Tongai realizes that to disentangle a case assigned to him, following the shooting of a Police Constable and a savage attack on two others, he has to scavenge through the rubles of the information shared through the very casual conversation he had with Titus and Nhau and he has to depend on them and their associates to get to the bottom of each clue. His findings lead him to what appeared to be a completely unrelated issue. It is when Tongai believes that he has unraveled the puzzle and is ready to nail the culprits that he suddenly realizes that Mufundisi Siyazvitema is more than just a man of the cloth for him.

Rwanda, this small country located in the center of Africa, was filled with human blood in 1994. Extremist Rwandans killed about 1 million people in only one hundred days, about 3 million fled Rwanda into exile in Democratic Republic of Congo ( ex-Zaire) where they would be killed by the Rwandan Patriotic Army from 1996 until 1998. This book is about a testimony of two boys who survived these massacres in which they had lost both their parents who were killed in the forests of the Congo. The older boy, 7 years old at that time, had to take care of his little brother, a newborn whose mother was killed only a couple hours after his birth. Miraculously, they both traveled the entire country of the Congo and came back to Rwanda. Once in their home country of Rwanda, in their own home village, the neighbours, who wanted to keep their inheritance, accused them of committing genocide in 1994. But at the time of this heinous crime, the older brother was only 5 years old, and his little brother was not born yet. To survive the attacks, harassment, and terror of these neighbours, ancient refugees from Uganda, they became "street kids" where I met them.

The discarded brick, a three season trilogy, in two volumes, is set in Africa, Europe and North America. It is about the travels and experiences of Emmanuel N. Mukanga who even in childhood, would be moved to a different location every three to five years. Born in the British Protectorate of Uganda, the changing political and economic fortunes of his post-independence homeland and region, led to thousands of his country people to flee and go look for greener pastures all over the world. This desire for a better and safer world, is a human desire and in Europe and North America, Emmanuel found people from other countries, in pursuit of happiness. Back home, not everyone was happy to co-exist with him. Fears and intrigue led to a family split, legal battles and irreconcilable differences. He and his siblings became a pariah to be avoided like the pest, The discarded Brick. Born in 1953, near the shores of Lake Victoria in Eastern Uganda, Emmanuel N. Mukanga was plucked from his parents at the age of three and taken to the Ugandan capital, Kampala. At age six, he was taken to a primary school, near Mbale in Eastern Uganda and at age nine transferred to Entebbe, former seat of the British Protectorate Government. At thirteen, he joined a prestigious boarding secondary school, after which he went to University to study the Arts. One of the reasons Idi Amin gave for expelling the 80,000 strong Indian Community from Uganda in 1972, was that, “they were milking the cow without feeding it,” which was not entirely true. He, who had no cow to milk, did not know that he too would have to leave his country of birth. He worked at Uganda Television, but in 1976, he fled Idi Amin’s Uganda, starting an odyssey that would take him to over 26 countries in Africa, Europe and North America. He interacted with many cultures, however, when it came to a denigration of his culture, at home, then a clash was inevitable. He is rescued by Nigerian security forces and he enters the Republic of Niger. From there he enters Algeria and from Algeria they move on to Libya after losing a friend in the desert. He and his friend smuggle themselves into a merchant ship bound for Barcelona. They are identified and his friend is killed while he jumps into the sea in a desperate attempt to escape. Some of his companions are arrested and deported to Nigeria. The story criticizes the socio political situation in Africa and depicts many aspects of the African tradition. The man from Australia is your brother; the woman from Afghanistan is your sister; the man from Syria is your brother; the woman from America is your sister and the man from Africa is your brother too.

Having managed and lead various teams at various levels within the third sector over eight years, I have realised what it takes to lead teams, execute plans and strategies to achieve expected results. Without any form of doubt, a reasonable leader needs to develop a vision of the organisation's future, in which there is a need for the right skills and perfect knowledge in knowing how to implement and execute relevant strategies while hitting the nail on the head. However, it is important for leaders to communicate their vision to stakeholders, knowing the reason for it, and it’s relevance to the organisational current and future situation. Having the right skills –i.e., the required diet - allows leaders respond to stakeholders about questions regarding the parameters needed to execute the organisation’s vision once they’ve known the applicable principles, factors and strategies to make it a reality and a success. It is important to carry stakeholders along, especially investors, so as to be part of the visioning process – i.e., understanding the need for change which enable them visualize the big picture for change. However, having the right diet would empower a leader to stand for the best in which they believe in. Note that as a leader, you should learn how to build a vision with others on board by taking insights and imagination about a potential line of action, however, this provides the platform for leaders to take initiative. Visioning is a collaborative effort, which facilitates growth and prosperity by gaining others’ commitment and support in achieving it. However, having a vision is one thing and another to develop and formulate the right strategies to make it a reality and remain in line with agreed goals as to produce the expected result, it would be preferable for leaders to consider the situation, factors and parameters surrounding an issue to be dealt with a clearly insight of what might be the possible outcome of any decision before making them. A point of advice for leaders when making decision, mostly in the aspect of executing strategies is that the successful execution pattern for Mr A can be the failure track for Mr B, that’s why leaders should clearly examine the situation regarding an issue indepthly before making decisions.
