This book is concerned with the argument that religious traditions are inherently environmentally friendly. Yet in a developing country such as India, the majority of people cannot afford to put the 'Earth first' regardless of the extent to which this idea can be supported by their religious traditions. Does this mean that the linking of religion and environmental concerns is a strategy more suited to contexts where people have a level of material security that enables them to think and act like environmentalists? This question is approached through a series of case studies from Britain and India. The book concludes that there is a tension between the 'romantic' ecological discourse common among many western activists and scholars, and a more pragmatic approach, which is often found in India. The adoption of environmental causes by the Hindu Right in India makes it difficult to distinguish genuine concern for the environment from the broader politics surrounding the idea of a Hindu rashtra (nation). This raises a further level of analysis, which has not been provided in other studies.
Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Mean Girls as lovably flawed high school student Chloe Snow chronicles her junior year as she navigates the highs and lows of family, friendship, school, and losing her virginity. I’ll be honest: junior year has been a disaster. My horrible mom is back from Mexico. My dad’s girlfriend is living in our house. Did I mention my parents aren’t divorced yet? On the plus side, I lost my virginity!...and then the whole school found out and I got slut-shamed. Then, somehow, I got popular! But according to some people, it turned me into a monster, and I’m pretty sure everyone hates me now. Oh, and there was the Thanksgiving fiasco, and the prom queen debacle, and the illegal middle-of-the-night drive to the hospital. Want to hear the whole wild story? You’ll have to read my notes.
In the tradition of Bridget Jones’s Diary, a lovably flawed high school student chronicles her life as she navigates the highs and lows of family, friendship, school, and love in a diary that sparkles with humor and warmth. I’m Chloe Snow, and my life is kiiiiind of a disaster. 1. I’m a kissing virgin (so so so embarrassing). 2. My best friend, Hannah, is driving me insane. 3. I think I’m in love with Mac Brody, senior football star, whose girlfriend is so beautiful she doesn’t even need eyeliner. 4. My dad won’t stop asking me if I’m okay. 5. Oh, and my mom moved to Mexico to work on her novel. But it’s fine—she’ll be back soon. She said so. Mom says the only thing sadder than remembering is forgetting, so I’m going to write down everything that happens to me in this diary. That way, even when I’m ninety, I’ll remember how awkward and horrible and exciting it is to be in high school.
