Female executives of large companies are still in short supply in the U.S., but they have made great strides in recent years and their number is growing. Patricia Werhane and four other leadership experts interviewed twenty-two prominent womenincluding executives at Kraft, Boeing, and Harley Davidsonto uncover their leadership styles, reveal their most effective practices, and find out how they broke through the glass ceiling. This celebration of stellar executives highlights their achievements, the values and visions that guide them, and the contributions they've made to both their companies and industries. Besides enjoying fascinating stories, readersboth men and womenwill gain insights that help them manage and lead better. Despite enormous strides in the status of women in business, female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies can be counted on two hands, and less than 15 percent of Fortune 500 board seats are held by women. These daunting statistics, however, belie another phenomenon: The iceberg of male domination in the boardroom is beginning to break up and melt. More and more women are assuming positions of real leadership. And it's none too soon. With the increasing diversity of the workforce, businesses need the wisdom successful female executives can offer. To encourage more women to step up to the plate, this book tells many stories of perseverance and inventiveness. But it digs deeper to reveal common qualities and characteristics that reflect a style of leadership that is in stark contrastin every major dimension, from communication styles to team building to crisis managementto the traditional, white-male model that has dominated practice, theory, and management education. While men tend to be transactional leaders, the women profiled in this book are nothing less than inspiring, transformational leaders. The result is an incisive, engaging, thought-provoking, and ultimately empowering narrative that will serve as a guide for women now entering, progressing, and leading in the workplaceas well as the men with whom they work.

What is difference? Is it in how we speak, How we look Or how we see the world? Is it the colour of our eyes The swing of our walk Or the very essence of Our minds? Whatever it is Maybe we should embrace it Rather than wanting to Run away Or kill it. Next time there is Difference Think, What about me, How do they see me, Do I care? Should I care? What in the end do We need but Love And Acceptance. Regardless of change. Cover design: Julie Elizabeth Powell Image: freedigitalphotos

My lofty goal in writing this book is that you, the reader, might be encouraged in your life's journey. Also that you might choose faith over fear.Jesus in Scripture leads the way in the book of Matthew, chapter 11, verses 28 through 30, which reads as follows:Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.I become so heavy hearted when I read the obituaries in the local newspapers that tell me about individuals, so young, dying. It makes me wonder why. To date, by the grace of God, I am eighty-eight years old.In John 11:25-26, Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." This gives me hope.I have chosen this salmon fishing photo to illustrate the surprise and joy and results at my first deep-sea fishing. The outcome of this fishing adventure, of course, was unknown before getting in the fishing boat and casting my line. I was advised, to avoid sea sickness, to keep my eyes on the horizon. Each participant was allowed to catch, as the limit, two fish. To my delight and surprise, I caught three big ones thus being able to give the third salmon away to a lady that had none. What is your horizon? What are your joys? What are your fears?

There was nothing left. I looked at the landscape, unable to miss its barren coldness; one that had been caused by the insatiable appetites of those in power. Walking along the white stretch of road, white due to the continual fall of snow, I saw no-one, as usual. Not that I expected to see anyone. For I'd been walking for what felt like forever, and as yet found not another soul. Was I the only one left? And really, what was the point if I were? And why had I survived? This is an imaginative exploration of the art of David Jones which addresses Christian teaching through engagement with selected artistic works: a poem, a painted inscription and a wood engraving. Elizabeth R. Powell's study does not just enable readers to understand Jones but also to use his kind of loving attention in their own lives – which, Jones would argue, is theology's most important task. Through close readings of material objects, Powell draws the reader into the participatory, performative and dialogical possibilities of the craft of theology. She frames an older style of theology in a distinctive and modern way, as a graced human practice and a place of transforming relation with the divine. Powell argues that Jones's art works offer places of beauty in which to 'become beauty' along the way. Located at the cross-section of theology, literature and the arts, this volume shows that being interdisciplinary is nothing less than finding ways for theology and humanity to be more richly itself.

I couldn't resist putting together all those little ideas that have popped into my mind then out onto paper as the years have flown. Most have fallen by the wayside into the bin of 'of my' but some stayed and here they are. These pieces have also tested my abilities and certainly stretched my brain towards a variety of genres, styles and ways of looking at the world and the people in it. From comedy to a touch of horror, romance, fantasy and fun to solemn, and maybe some things in between - I've had a go. Hope you like this collection - how could I help but indulge; like that first piece of dark chocolate and sip of rich, steaming coffee, while snuggling with my soul mate on a freezing winter's night? Enjoy.

Poetry. 2015 Robert Dana-Anhinga Prize for Poetry. "Elizabeth Powell's theatrical book of poems plays out against the backdrop of Arthur Miller's signature play, which is at once a guidepost and a foil for this drama of the self, this poetic meditation on the intermixed American family. Powell's self-correcting poems are smart and high-spirited, vacillating wildly between feelings, between lyric and prose, moving in a short space from high comedy to dark grief. I can't think of another book of poems that is quite like WILLY LOMAN'S RECKLESS DAUGHTER, which keeps bravely crossing 'the line no one wants to write or live.'"—Edward Hirsch
