There is hardly a person alive today that has not heard of the battle of the Alamo and its famous defenders. Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis, have all been glorified in book and film. The fourteen-day battle is known throughout the world and is often highlighted to show to what degree men are willing to sacrifice for what they believe in. But, why and how did this final incomprehensible calamity come about? How accurate are these versions that we have been told? Not till recently have other controversial accounts surfaced. Accounts in the form of affidavits, claims, letters, and diaries of Tejanos living in San Antonio de Bexar at the time, including Mexican Army participants, who were eyewitnesses to the event that unfolded in 1836. This new information details some very different and surprising events. Many feel that there were other underling circumstances and certain theories even point to possible conspiracies. I have used a fictitious family and known historical events to give the side of the people living in Bexar at the time and how events unfolded on a day by day basis in this Mexican town we all know as San Antonio. I try and detail what took place behind the scenes. Although this book is fictional it’s based on true events. The main character , a 12-year-old boy named Temo. Although fictional, could have very well been have lived in Bexar during this time, but by a different name, who knows.

This book reviews IoT-centric vulnerabilities from a multidimensional perspective by elaborating on IoT attack vectors, their impacts on well-known security objectives, attacks which exploit such vulnerabilities, coupled with their corresponding remediation methodologies. This book further highlights the severity of the IoT problem at large, through disclosing incidents of Internet-scale IoT exploitations, while putting forward a preliminary prototype and associated results to aid in the IoT mitigation objective. Moreover, this book summarizes and discloses findings, inferences, and open challenges to inspire future research addressing theoretical and empirical aspects related to the imperative topic of IoT security. At least 20 billion devices will be connected to the Internet in the next few years. Many of these devices transmit critical and sensitive system and personal data in real-time. Collectively known as “the Internet of Things” (IoT), this market represents a $267 billion per year industry. As valuable as this market is, security spending on the sector barely breaks 1%. Indeed, while IoT vendors continue to push more IoT devices to market, the security of these devices has often fallen in priority, making them easier to exploit. This drastically threatens the privacy of the consumers and the safety of mission-critical systems. This book is intended for cybersecurity researchers and advanced-level students in computer science. Developers and operators working in this field, who are eager to comprehend the vulnerabilities of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and understand the severity of accompanied security issues will also be interested in this book.
The Greatest Performance is the ironic title of this deceptively simple, intense, poetic novel of exile. Two soul mates recount to each other their stories of living on the margins of family, country, and sexual identity. Their struggle for love and psychological integrity take us from Cuba to Spain and to the United States where increased freedom is accompanied by culture conflict and the very real threat of AIDS. The Greatest Performance is alternately touching, humorous, and shocking. It is truly memorable literature.
Different survey-based and case study research has shown that, since the 1980s, minority nationalist parties have become increasingly supportive of European integration. However, this account of minority nationalist party attitudes towards Europe is problematic in several respects. This book makes a major contribution to the academic literature by undertaking a comparative study of the attitudes of minority nationalist parties towards European integration. The volume provides: A systematic analysis of the ways in which minority nationalist party attitudes towards European integration have evolved from 1979 to 2005. Original empirical data on hitherto under-researched minority nationalist parties in Wales, Galicia and Corsica. Major new insights into the European attitudes of minority nationalist parties. This book challenges the general assumption in the academic literature that the minority nationalist party family will always be pro-European and demonstrates how it needs to be revised in light of the evidence provided by this study. It will be of strong interest to students and scholars interested in minority nationalism, the Europeanisation of political parties, comparative research on regional politics and in contemporary debates about nationalism.
In the celestial realm of Paradise, the atmosphere has grown somber. Nightly discussions among Arab scholars, spanning from the classical to the medieval periods and even the present day, have reached an impasse. Conversations aimed at finding solutions for the earthly world below seem increasingly futile, as if history’s lessons have been forgotten or ignored. The vibrant mood once prevalent in Paradise has given way to listlessness and gloom. But what if the key to reigniting joy and inspiration lies in an age-old universal tradition: sharing a meal? That’s right, a food contest! Celestial Dining to Entice: An Arab Food Contest in Paradise aims to shift the narrative from despair to delight. Scholars present their chosen medieval Arab dishes, each accompanied by personal stories that reveal who they are and why they’ve selected their dish. The contest does more than just brighten the atmosphere; it serves as a poignant reminder that history may have its lessons, but food possesses the timeless power to unite and uplift. Experience a celestial gathering where heavenly flavours meet earthly concerns, and discover how even in Paradise, the simple joy of sharing a meal can transform the spirit.
Threats to the Arctic discusses all the current threats to this fragile region, emphasizing the interconnections between many environmental impacts, as well as the teleconnections between events already emerging in the Arctic (ocean circulation changes, melting of sea ice, glaciers and ice sheets) and other parts of the world. The book's aim is to inform readers about the impending, sometimes irreversible changes coming to the Arctic. University students, environmental engineers, policymakers and sociologists with an interest in the role of the Arctic in global change will benefit from the book's unique perspective. Provides the most up-to-date information on this rapidly changing, critical part of the world Offers a holistic understanding of the interconnections between global environmental changes and impacts in the Arctic Examines fact-based pressure on politics and industry to preserve Arctic biota and environments

Westerners have a strong impression that Islam does not allow religious imagery. Elias corrects this view. Unearthing shades of meaning in Islamic thought throughout history, he argues that Islamic perspectives on representation and perception should be sought in diverse areas such as optics, alchemy, dreaming, vehicle decoration, Sufi metaphysics.

Much as it is defined as a garden patterned according to patterns of flowers, colours, or other sensory effects, the formalist quality of parterre becomes the garden proper. Conceived more as a "curated" experience, Elías Carlo's parterre is divided into three sections, which explore spatial relationships as they merge or distance themselves with tonalities of voice, themes, and other poetic approaches of its author.
