Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2024-502/ Eunomia Research & Consulting and Mepex Consult AS were commissioned by the Nordic Working Group for Circular Economy to carry out a study on production and recycling of batteries used in electrical vehicles (EVs) with a focus on the Nordic region. The study sought to contribute to building knowledge around technologies and procedures capable of reducing emissions and minimising environmental risks across the EV battery value chain, and to provide initial findings that may inform future Best Available Techniques Reference documents. The EV battery value chain is experiencing rapid growth and evolution at all stages. Each of these stages, and associated technologies, are accompanied by environmental risks, waste products and emissions. Additionally, distinct barriers to the circularity of batteries include degradation of battery capacity and complexity of technologies and supply chains.
When the Civil War broke out, women answered the call for help. They broke away from their traditional roles and served in many capacities, some of them even going so far as to disguise themselves as men and enlist in the army. Estimates of such women enlistees range from 400 to 700. About 60 women soldiers were known to have been killed or wounded. More than sixty women who fought or who served the Union or Confederacy in other ways are featured. Among them are Sarah Thompson, the Union spy and nurse who brought down the famous raider John Hunt Morgan; Elizabeth Van Lew, the Union spy instrumental in the largest prison break of the war; Sarah Malinda Blalock, who fought for the Confederacy as a soldier and then for the Union as a guerrilla raider; Dr. Mary Walker, a doctor for the Union and the only woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for Civil War service; and Jennie Hodgers, the longest serving woman soldier (and the only woman to receive a soldier's pension).
More than 8,000 men served in the Fifth Marine Regiment during World War I and the occupation of Germany. Marine units were among the first to arrive in war-torn Europe in 1917, and they sustained greater casualties than other American units. This book tells the story of the "Devil Dogs" in World War I and the years after through the recollections of veterans recorded over the past century. This book focuses on tier two strategies for classroom management. When teachers feel empowered with information, classroom management is easier. This book is filled with specific strategies based on Dr. Riffel's Triple T- Triple R chart. The three T's are 1) Trigger (what sets the behavior in motion), 2) Target (what behavior do you want to target for change), and 3) impacT (what is the student gaining or escaping by engaging in this behavior). The three R's to combat the three T's are 1) Revise the environment (set the student up for success by changing the environment, 2) Replace the behavior (Teach the student what you want to see instead of telling them what not to do, and 3) Reframe your response (change how you react to the target behavior and feed the replacement behavior. When these three formats are followed, the behavior dissipates. This book also includes specific strategies on many common classroom target behaviors. This book coincides with Dr. Riffel's Tier Two Training.
