This study deals with the vexed question of what groups in the general population run the risk of developing cancer. Based on information provided by the highly-regarded Finnish Cancer Registry, the survey considers the incidence of cancers affecting as many as 46 parts of the body and their links with 335 occupational categories. By adjusting the occupation-specific risk ratios for social class, restricting their study to a particular age-group and applying the same criteria to women as to men, the author strives to make the relationship between cancers and certain occupations as clear as possible. His results are shown to correlate well with those obtained from specific studies of occupational cancer. Factors related to a person's occupation seem to determine some cancer risks, while the overall incidence and types of malignancy appear to be associated with the way of life of one's social class. Smoking, diet and reproductive factors are discussed from this viewpoint. Of interest for future research, new connections between disease and occupation are indicated in some contributions. Epidemiologists, oncologists, environmentalists and those working in preventive medicine as well as in occupational and public health will find much to interest them in this clearly organized book.
The book provides a review and synthesis of boreal mire ecosystems including peat soil properties, mire hydrology, carbon and nutrient cycling, and classification of mire sites. The emphasis, however, is on peatland forests as a renewable natural resource. The approach originated in northern Europe, because there, especially in Finland, operational scale forest drainage has a long tradition based on research aiming to maintain and increase wood production on peatlands. Whenever relevant, a closer look is also given to other countries in Europe, Canada, and the USA. The results of recent studies on different environmental effects of peatland forestry are also discussed in detail.

Like Scandinavian masters before them, such as Aalto or Jacobsen, Claesson Koivisto Rune practise both architecture and design. In 2004 they were among the first Swedish architects to be selected for the international section of the Architecture Biennale in Venice. The architectural projects in this monograph include private houses and interiors from Europe to North and South America, as well as larger buildings like the Sfera Building Culture House in Kyoto, Japan. The furniture and other product designs presented here are manufactured by over 30 international companies. All photographs have been taken anew for this publication, which is a design object in itself, consisting of two books - separate volumes for architecture and design - with introductions by Paola Antonelli (MoMA) and Marcus Fairs (ICON Magazine).
