Throughout the 1990s, artists experimented with game engine technologies to disrupt our habitual relationships to video games. They hacked, glitched, and dismantled popular first-person shooters such as Doom (1993) and Quake (1996) to engage players in new kinds of embodied activity. In Unstable Aesthetics: Game Engines and the Strangeness of Art Modding, Eddie Lohmeyer investigates historical episodes of art modding practices-the alteration of a game system's existing code or hardware to generate abstract spaces-situated around a recent archaeology of the game engine: software for rendering two and three-dimensional gameworlds. The contemporary artists highlighted throughout this book-Cory Arcangel, JODI, Julian Oliver, Krista Hoefle, and Brent Watanabe, among others –- were attracted to the architectures of engines because they allowed them to explore vital relationships among abstraction, technology, and the body. Artists employed a range of modding techniques-hacking the ROM chips on Nintendo cartridges to produce experimental video, deconstructing source code to generate psychedelic glitch patterns, and collaging together surreal gameworlds-to intentionally dissect the engine's operations and unveil illusions of movement within algorithmic spaces. Through key moments in game engine history, Lohmeyer formulates a rich phenomenology of video games by focusing on the liminal spaces of interaction among system and body, or rather the strangeness of art modding.

Harry Redman has, since childhood, a dream about what computers can really do but his life with Helen has buried his dream. When Helen leaves him the dream is revived and he sets up his own computer business to fulfil the dream. At the same time he embarks on a number of affairs and soon begins to receive anonymous letters telling him to 'leave her alone' although which 'her' he is supposed to leave alone is a mute point. Someone sabotages his car and this appears to be a warning, although the incident could have been fatal. His various girlfriends also begin to receive anonymous warnings telling him to 'leave him alone'. Someone - possibly the same person, fire bombs his office while he is in there with w.p.c Oji Ojeela - the police having become involved. His first girlfriend after Helen had left him is now getting married and invites Harry to her wedding, telling him to bring a friend. The wedding is being held near Sheffield. At the same time Harry receives a further threat to his life and the police consider that this might not be a coincidence. It is decided that Oji should be the friend to go with him. Nothing happens except that Harry and Ojin begin an affair. After the wedding, Susie Carlyle, - one of Harry's girlfriends - is viciously attacked and a note is left - 'I told you to leave him alone.' Later both Harry and Jany - yet another girlfriend - are attacked in her home. The incident had caused the police to put a watch on the home and the officer on watch was none other than Oji Ojeela. She comes to intervene but is stabbed in the stomach and descends into a coma. Harry is able to bring Ojin from the coma. The assailant is, in fact, Jany's youngest son. He escapes but it is later believed that he commits suicide. His affair ceases as all his girlfriends become aware - although Harry doesn't see this - of the growing relationship between Harry and Oji.

After the Florida State Legislature passed an act calling for the creation of two seminaries of learning in 1851, West Florida Seminary was established in Tallahassee. In the 1880s, the seminary's curriculum was reorganized along the lines of a conventional four-year college, and in 1901, the name was changed to Florida State College, better suiting its well-rounded liberal arts education and the traditional college experience offered to its students. With the passage of the Buckman Act in 1905, the school began a new chapter as the Florida Female College. After the name was changed to Florida State College for Women in 1909, it went on to rank as one of the premier women's colleges in the country. In 1947, in part to accommodate the influx of returning GIs, the school resumed its coeducational status as Florida State University. Combining traditional strength in the arts and humanities with recognized leadership in the sciences, Florida State University is one of the country's foremost research institutions today.

As George Barna has noted, "We have a generation coming up that . . . isn't looking at Christianity to answer spiritual concerns . . . We either change or we lose them."Worldview as Worship contends that the approach taken by most evangelical educators to the issue of worldview transformation has neglected to address two fundamental components of worldviews. First, that our initial worldviews are not philosophical systems but rather faith dispositions and that worldview transformation cannot simply present the biblical worldview as a more rational or logical system, but must address issues of the heart as well as the mind. Second, unlike philosophies that are individual, worldviews are communal and are learned and transformed within the context of community practice.Appealing to Paul's teaching in Romans 12:1-2, Worldview as Worship approaches the "renewing of your mind" as the result of the believer's presentation of themselves as a "holy sacrifice . . . which is your spiritual service of worship." The Legacy of the Wisecrack: Stand-up Comedy as the Great American Literary Form looks at the theory of stand-up comedy, its literary dimensions, and its distinctly American qualities as it provides a detailed history of the forces that shaped it.
