This is the compelling realistic story about athletics in the small towns in Texas. It tells the story of building a championship tradition from a below average program that attracts five good coaches and their collision with a group of gifted athletes and it is told through the eyes of the citizens of the community in which it all takes place. The characters are as real as those in so many small towns and the interchanging of their attitudes and behaviors are comical at times. It illustrates how often smaller communities are identified by the public school's success in athletics and how much success can bring about new ideas and attract others to want and become a part of their success. It also shows what a challenge people from the outside have in being accepted and being understood, but when they are, all benefit from the experience. The question that is asked in this story is whether the next generation and a new staff can continue the tradition established, now that the "golden boys" have graduated and gone on to college. It is an amazing tribute to those who follow such an era and their struggles.

But as capitalism developed in the 20th century it evolved into a postmodern consumerism that replaced democracy with consumerism and education with entertainment. Public libraries have mistakenly tried to remain relevant by shadowing the rise of consumerism, but have instead contributed to the rise of a new barbarism and the decline of democracy.

Due to the increasing pressure of a globalized economy and under the effects of a changing climate, biological invasions have become a frequent feature of marine and freshwater environments. Global fisheries and aquaculture are therefore required to adjust to these changes, with the dual aim of reducing the negative ecological consequences caused by these species and making the most of the advantages they might bring. Here, capitalizing on a wide spectrum of management actions which can be implemented to control and/or adapt to aquatic invasions, nine measures are presented; they can be grouped under environmental, social or socioeconomic strategies, exploring their potential, main challenges and enabling factors. The nine measures, provided with key recommendations, are: #1: Develop and manage a commercial fishery #2: Promote recreational harvesting #3: Explore market opportunities #4: Implement outreach programmes #5: Foster stakeholder engagement #6: Implement spatial control #7: Implement biological control #8: Restore ecosystems #9: Do nothing These suggestions, discussed among a group of international experts and presented in a synthetic form, may be used as a practical resource (though not an exhaustive one), to aid in the evaluation and identification of appropriate fisheries management responses to aquatic invasive species in the context of climate change. While it may not address all the complexities of the subject, it provides a starting point for adaptation strategies, recognizing the diverse legal, cultural and socioeconomic conditions in different fishery contexts, offering valuable insights for policymakers, fisheries managers, and practitioners who have to deal with aquatic invasions.

These are the edited (i.e. transcribed, annotated and indexed) diaries of Sir Ernest Satow (1843-1929) for the six years from the time when he left Japan early in 1883, through his time as Agent and Consul-General and subsequent promotion to Minister Resident at Bangkok, until his return to London and his request in December 1887 for another posting on health grounds. The period includes his visits to Japan (officially for rest and recuperation) in 1884 and 1886, and to Paris, Rome and Lisbon for research into the Jesuits in Japan conducted early in 1888, and the confirmation of his appointment to Montevideo in October of that year. Throughout the period his ultimate goal was promotion to Minister in Japan, which he achieved in 1895. The original diaries are in the National Archives (UK).
