For over 160 years, the Lutterloh family was prominent in North Carolina. Between 1776 and 1940, family members and their steamboat company were referenced in state newspapers over 14,000 times. The Lutterloh Steamboat Line, which primarily served Wilmington and Fayetteville, was one of the state's largest steamboat operations before the Civil War. The large family of Charles and Eliza Lutterloh of Chatham County survived that war and settled across North Carolina and elsewhere. Their family members included Thomas Lutterloh (First Municipal Mayor of Fayetteville; Owner of the Lutterloh Steamboat Line and Local Turpentine Pioneer) * Herbert Lutterloh (Poultry Industry Pioneer) * Charles Lutterloh II (Landscaping and Gardening Pioneer of Fayetteville) * Grandson Charles Buxton Rogers (Florida’s Largest Wholesale Grocer) * and Son-In-Law Esley Hunt (Accomplished Studio Photographer of Chapel Hill and Raleigh). Charles' uncle was Henry Emanuel Lutterloh, Deputy Quartermaster General of the Revolutionary War. Charles' parents, Henry Lewis Lutterloh and Elizabeth Grantham Lutterloh, became the grandparents of 19 medical doctors (1986 "Guinness Book of World Records"). A loyal partisan and highly principled public official whose career overlapped with those of many legends of Illinois politics-including Mayor Richard J. Why is there such an ethical emphasis in Jesus’ gospel proclamation? This work finds the answer in Jesus meeting his audience within their own conceptual realms and then expanding those realms to point to the nature of his salvation. The bulk of this work investigates the soteriology of Second Temple Judaism, especially of the Qumran Scrolls. The apocalyptic lesson was the demand of a greater covenantal obedience, held in tension with God’s grace, a demand met through sectarian revelation and involving a somewhat diverse messianism. Within these conceptions, Jesus affirms that salvation is indeed for the “righteous,” but as defined through himself as the unique Messiah. This work is particularly useful regarding the Jesus—Paul debate, for it provides a diachronic solution grounded in the cultural-historical milieu of the times.

This booklet hardly needs a preface; the contents, I think. speak for themselves.It contains a short and carefully brought up to date resume of all that I. as a private University Lecturer in Amsterdam. have tried to teach my pupils. It is intended as a general introduction to ethnomusicology, before going on to the study of the forms of separate music-cultures. I sincerely hope that those, who wish to teach themselves and to qualify in this branch of knowledge, will find a satisfactory basis for selftuition in the matter here brought together. Regarding the possibility of a new edition, any critical remarks or infor mation as to possible desiderata would be very gratefully received. J.K. PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION My request for critical remarks and desiderata has not been ignored. My sincere thanks to all who took the trouble to let me know what they missed in my booklet. Through their collaboration the contents have undergone a considerable improvement and enlargement as compared to the original edition issued in 1950 by the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. under the title 'Musicologica'. I have taken care to add many particulars from non-European sources. with the result that now the book is no longer so Europe-centric as it was. Furthermore, I have done my best to mention in a special bibliography all the more important ethnomusicological publications, with the exception of those issued in the Russian, Arabic. Until 1906, Aliquippa was known as a small farming community called Woodlawn, but the 20th century ushered in tremendous change when the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company came to town. The company designated the plant site as the Aliquippa Works, ultimately leading the town to change its name to Aliquippa in 1928 to more closely identify with the mill. By 1930, the population would balloon to over 27,000 residents. To accommodate its workforce, Jones & Laughlin developed a community that boasted of homes with all of the modern conveniences, including indoor plumbing and electricity. Schools and businesses were built to support the population, along with fire and police departments and a modern transportation system. Immigrant workers were recruited from around the world to man the massive industrial complex, and as the mill grew, so did the town. Aliquippa is a testimony to the people who built and nurtured the growth of this memorable city.
