In the old industrial regions of the Ruhr District (Germany), Upper Silesia (Poland) and the Ostrava Region (Czech Republic), coal as well as iron and steel have been the economic basis for many decades. In the Ruhr District important changes already started at the end of the 1950s. In Upper Silesia and in the Ostrava Region, however, these processes started at the end of the 1980s together with the transformation of the economic and social system in these countries. Because of high unemployment, steps are taken to modernize the economy and to retrain employees. All three regions cannot develop out of their own strength, but there are programmes in order to support this process.
The concept of moduli goes back to B. Riemann, who shows in [68] that the isomorphism class of a Riemann surface of genus 9 ~ 2 depends on 3g - 3 parameters, which he proposes to name "moduli". A precise formulation of global moduli problems in algebraic geometry, the definition of moduli schemes or of algebraic moduli spaces for curves and for certain higher dimensional manifolds have only been given recently (A. Grothendieck, D. Mumford, see [59]), as well as solutions in some cases. It is the aim of this monograph to present methods which allow over a field of characteristic zero to construct certain moduli schemes together with an ample sheaf. Our main source of inspiration is D. Mumford's "Geometric In variant Theory". We will recall the necessary tools from his book [59] and prove the "Hilbert-Mumford Criterion" and some modified version for the stability of points under group actions. As in [78], a careful study of positivity proper ties of direct image sheaves allows to use this criterion to construct moduli as quasi-projective schemes for canonically polarized manifolds and for polarized manifolds with a semi-ample canonical sheaf.
Gerhard Gentzen (1909–1945) is the founder of modern structural proof theory. His lasting methods, rules, and structures resulted not only in the technical mathematical discipline called “proof theory” but also in verification programs that are essential in computer science. This is the first book in English devoted entirely to Kantâe(tm)s Opus Postumum and its place in the Kantian oeuvre. Over the last few decades, the importance of this text for our understanding of Kantâe(tm)s philosophy has emerged with increasing clarity. Although Kant began it in order to solve a relatively minor problem within his philosophy, his reflections soon forced him to readdress virtually all the key problems of his critical philosophy: the objective validity of the categories, the dynamical theory of matter, the natures of space and time, the refutation of idealism, the theory of the self and its agency, the question of living organisms, the doctrine of the practical postulates and the idea of God, the unity of theoretical and practical reason, and the idea of transcendental philosophy itself. In the end Kant was convinced that these problems, some of which had preoccupied him throughout his career, could finally be brought to a coherent and adequate solution and integrated into a single philosophical conception. As Eckart Förster shows in his penetrating study, Kantâe(tm)s conviction deserves not only our intellectual respect but also our undivided philosophical attention. Kant declared that philosophy began in 1781 with his Critique of Pure Reason. In 1806 Hegel announced that philosophy had now been completed. Eckart Förster examines the reasons behind these claims and assesses the steps that led in such a short time from Kant's "(Bbeginning" to Hegel's "(Bend." He concludes that, in an unexpected yet significant sense, both Kant and Hegel were indeed right. The Twenty-Five Years of Philosophy follows the unfolding of a key idea during this exceptionally productive period: the Kantian idea that philosophy can be scientific and, consequently, can be completed. Förster's study combines historical research with philosophical insight and leads him to propose a new thesis.
