In 2001; Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee asked Bhishma Agnihotri to serve as the nation’s first Ambassador-at-Large for the Indian diaspora. Agnihotri; a non-resident Indian (NRI); had been serving as the chancellor of Southern University’s Law Center; but he readily agreed to accept the position. Although he faced opposition in India to his appointment as ambassador; he was officially appointed in 2001 and moved from Baton Rouge; Louisiana to New York just days after the September 11th terrorist attacks. His mandate from Prime Minister Vajpayee was simple. He was charged with strengthening the relationship between the nation of India and the Indian diaspora and; at the same time; with helping to elevate India’s position in the world. Agnihotri travelled the world and met with NRIs and people of Indian origin (PIO). He worked with NRIs and PIOs from all backgrounds; genders; and religions in an attempt to strengthen their ties to their mother country. This book highlights Dr. Agnihotri’s accomplishments as Ambassador-at-Large. It also touches on his journey from India to America to pursue higher education; becoming a chancellor of a law center; volunteering his time to many organisations; and moving on to the worthy task of Bridging Global Indian Diaspora.

It is more common in Diabetic patients, immunosuppressed patients, patients on steroid therapy and critically ill patients, patients on instrumentation like indwelling catheters, intravenous cannulation, tracheostomy tube. Sources  Contaminated infection wound  Infections of urinary tract  Infections of respiratory tract  Opportunistic infections  Wounds with severe sepsis The spread can occur from patient to another patient, through Nurses to patient, through Hospital staff to patient .it occurs from health care staff when strict and proper asepsis and aseptic techniques are not followed. Causative Agents The organisms responsible for nosocomial infections are – staphylococcus aureus, Pesudomonas, Klebsiella, E.coli .The most common pathogen involved in hospital acquired infection of respiratory tract are Streptococcus pneumoiae, Haemophillus, Herpes, Varicella, Aspergillus, Pneumocystis carinni. The most common pathogen which is involved in hospital acquired infection of urinary tract which is highly drug resistant is Klebsiella.

In 1964 Kenneth Kaunda and his United National Independence Party (UNIP) government established the nation of Zambia in the former British colony of Northern Rhodesia. In parallel with many other newly independent countries in Africa this process of decolonisation created a wave of optimism regarding humanity's capacity to overcome oppression and poverty. Yet, as this study shows, in Zambia as in many other countries, the legacy of colonialism created obstacles that proved difficult to overcome. Within a short space of time democratisation and development was replaced by economic stagnation, political authoritarianism, corruption and ethnic and political conflict. To better understand this process, Dr Larmer explores UNIP's political ideology and the strategies it employed to retain a grip on government. He shows that despite the party's claim that it adhered to an authentically African model of consensual and communitarian decision-making, it was never a truly nationally representative body. Whereas in long-established Western societies unevenness in support was accepted as a legitimate basis for party political difference, in Zambia this was regarded as a threat to the fragile bindings of the young nation state, and as such had to be denied and repressed. This led to the declaration of a one-party state, presented as the logical expression of UNIP supremacy but it was in fact a reflection of its weakening grip on power. Through case studies of opposition political and social movements rooted in these differences, the book demonstrates that UNIP's control of the new nation-state was partial, uneven and consistently prone to challenge. Alongside this, the study also re-examines Zambia's role in the regional liberation struggles, providing valuable new evidence of the country's complex relations with Apartheid-era South Africa and the relationship between internal and external opposition, shaped by the context of regional liberation movements and the Cold War. Drawing on extensive archival research and interviews, Dr Larmer offers a ground-breaking analysis of post-colonial political history which helps explain the challenges facing contemporary African polities.
