Isaiah Vorys and his relatives are part of the largest Dutch group within the modern USA; namely, the “Van Voorhees” family. In 1660 C.E., Isaiah’s ancestral grandfather, Steven Coerts Van Voorhees, migrated from the Province of Drenthe, Netherlands to the Flatlands area of Brooklyn, Long Island, NY. Thus began the “roots” of a huge family who quickly branched out to become pioneers, early settlers, and prominent citizens within many U.S. States, Counties, and Cities from 1660 C.E. to present day.This book concentrates primarily on the one branch of Steven Coerts Van Voorhees’ descendants which leads to (and beyond) Isaiah Vorys, who was born in 1750 in Somerset County, New Jersey. At first glance, some of the heretofore unpublished genealogy charts associated with Isaiah may appear to be of sole interest to the readers who are related to him. However, any reader with a desire to learn more about United States History stands to gain insight into “the formation of the early USA”, by carefully reading each page of this book, because the author adds historical details associated with the “coast-to-coast” residential locations of Isaiah Vorys’ ancestors, descendants, and of his collateral relatives, beginning in 1660 C.E. and ending in 2013 C.E. Throughout an interesting 84 years of life, Isaiah Vorys actively participated in the betterment of his communities. For example, in 1776, he enlisted in a New Jersey Revolutionary War Regiment and participated in several battles as part of General George Washington’s “Continental Army” until 1781, even though Washington could not afford to pay this Regiment for their services. From 1808 to 1830, Isaiah Vorys was among the early pioneers who developed the City of Columbus, Ohio, while operating his “White Horse Tavern”. Even Isaiah’s death was interesting because the body exhumed from his gravesite in 1857 C. E. turned out not to be his remains! Isaiah Vorys’ seven children (adopting the VORYS, VORIS and VORHES surnames) were early settlers within various parts of western Pennsylvania, central Ohio, and in northern Indiana between 1784 C. E. and 1835 C.E. Isaiah’s descendants married spouses with surnames: HALLAM (early settlers of Washington Co., PA and of Clinton Co., OH); HITE; COCHENOUR; BIBLER (all three of these families were early settlers of Fairfield Co., OH); and MONROE (early settlers of Delaware Co., OH who descended from the MONROE/MUNROE “Minutemen” who fought in the “Battle of Lexington”, MA in 1775).

He served as director of the Center for International Agricultural Economics Association Foundation. He served as president of the American Agricultural Law Association, the American Agricultural Economics Association, and the American Agricultural Economics Association Foundation. He served as director of the Center for International Agricultural Finance from its founding in 1990 through 2004. He served on six federal commissions, including the task force on Farm Tax Policy (1967); the Advisory Committee to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue (1979-80) the Advisory Committee on Agricultural Biotechnology (2000-2002), and the Commission on the Application of Payment Limitations for Agriculture (2003). Dr. Harl was named the first Farm Leader of the Year by the Des Moines Register and received the Iowa Distinguished Service Award from the State of Iowa, The Distinguished Service to State Government Award from the National Governors’ Association, and the designation of Fellow from the American Agricultural Economics Association. In 2006, Dr. Harl received the Award for Service to American and World Agriculture from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. Dr. Harl is the author or co-author of more than 450 publications in legal and economic journals and bulletins, and more than a thousand in various farm and financial publications. He has spoken widely on income tax, estate planning, debtor-creditor relations, and organization of the farm business, with more than 3,400 speaking appearances in forty-three states and seventeen foreign countries. He has received two national awards in retirement-one Estate planning Hall of Fame by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils and the other National Farmers Union. This is his thirty-first published book.

In all industrialised countries, closed head injuries are responsible for vast numbers of hospital admissions and days of work lost. For instance, about 120,000 patients are admitted to hospital in the United Kingdom each year with a diagnosis that reflects closed head injury. Such injuries are a major cause of deaths following accidents, especially those that involve children and young people, and they are also a major cause of handicap and morbidity among the survivors. This clinical condition is intrinsically a neurological one, but its proper evaluation demands an understanding of the associated psychology and psychopathology. At the same time, a major neurological condition with such a high level of incidence ought to be extremely informative about the functioning of the human brain and hence provide a major focus for neuropsychological investigation. In this book, the author seeks to integrate these two different perspectives by reviewing the clinical and neuropsychological aspects of closed head injury in a manner that is equally intelligible to researchers interested in the effects of brain damage upon human behaviour and to practitioners who are responsible for the assessment, management and rehabilitation of head-injured patients. This is the second edition of a book which was first published in 1990, and which has been extensively revised in the light of the subsequent research in the field. The book begins by considering the epidemiology, causes and structural neuropathology of closed head injury. It then considers the impact of closed head injury on memory, cognition, language, communication, personality and social behaviour. Finally it outlines the outcome, the mechanisms of recovery and the prospects for rehabilitation.

British Rock Modernism, 1967-1977 explains how the definitive British rock performers of this epoch aimed, not at the youthful rebellion for which they are legendary, but at a highly self-conscious project of commenting on the business in which they were engaged. They did so by ironically appropriating the traditional forms of Victorian music hall. Faulk focuses on the mid to late 1960s, when British rock bands who had already achieved commercial prominence began to aspire to aesthetic distinction. The book discusses recordings such as the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour album, the Kinks' The Village Green Preservation Society, and the Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, and television films such as the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour and the Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus that defined rock's early high art moment. Faulk argues that these 'texts' disclose the primary strategies by which British rock groups, mostly comprised of young working and lower middle-class men, made their bid for aesthetic merit by sampling music hall sounds. The result was a symbolically charged form whose main purpose was to unsettle the hierarchy that set traditional popular culture above the new medium. Rock groups engaged with the music of the past in order both to demonstrate the comparative vitality of the new form and signify rock's new art status, compared to earlier British pop music. The book historicizes punk rock as a later development of earlier British rock, rather than a rupture. Unlike earlier groups, the Sex Pistols did not appropriate music hall form in an ironic way, but the band and their manager Malcolm McLaren were obsessed with the meaning of the past for the present in a distinctly modernist fashion. British Rock Modernism also sets the notion of authenticity in a broader context as well, encompassing in this case the revival of the traditional male artist-hero celebrated by British modernist literature. Situating rock in the more extensive history of modern British musical production offers insight into the gendered division of labour that still frames the reception of British popular music. As demonstrated in the opening chapter, focusing on key women singers of the 1960s, the music hall legacy is partly responsible for both privileging male rock groups with the mantle of artist, and with burdening women with stereotypes that relegated women performers to the status of mere 'entertainers'.

It studies the methods employed by architects, child experts and policy makers to survey, assess and administer the physiological, emotional and developmental needs of the ‘user’, the child. It identifies the new aesthetic and spatial order permeating the environments of childhood, based on endowing children with the agency and autonomy to create a self-regulating social order out of their own free will, while rendering their interiority and sociability observable and governable. By inserting the architectural object within a broader social and political context, The Architectures of Childhood situates post-war architecture within the welfare state’s project of governing the self, which most intensively targeted the citizen in the making, the children. Yet the emphasis on the utilization of architecture as an instrument of power does not reduce it into a mere document of social policy, as the author uncovers the surplus of meaning and richness of experience invested in these environments at the historical moment when children represented values and ideas about life, community, happiness, human potentiality, and perhaps even the very prospect of imagining a more humane and secure future at the aftermath of the Second World War.
