When young, adventurous Nik hears stories of a man named Jesus, he is more than intrigued. Nik and his best friend, Marco, embark on an adventure unlike any before. Boarding a ship bound for Tyre, Nik and Marco work to pay their fare, Marco as a cook and Nik in the galley. During the long months at sea, Nik and Marco befriend Captain Vitas and his crewmembers, including the traveling man, Vito, and his cousin, Alexus. With ample time for storytelling, Nik and Marco share stories of Jesus and the miracles he has performed. Along the way, the two best friends meet others who are just like them, searching for the man who can walk on water and who has the answers they haven't been able to find anywhere else. But they also encounter unbelievers who doubt such a man exists. In these times, the young men must witness to strangers in the hopes of saving their souls. Amid laughter and love, illness and danger, Nik and Marco's faith is unwavering. Although the months-long journey takes its toll and feels endless, they know the end result will be worth the wait. After all this time, will Nik and Marco's Driven Hearts find what they're searching for, Jesus Christ?

Just weeks after Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, Larry Doby joined Robinson in breaking the color barrier in the major leagues when he became the first black player to integrate the American League, signing with the Cleveland Indians in July 1947. Doby went on to be a seven-time All-Star center fielder who led the Indians to two pennants. In many respects Robinson and Doby were equals in their baseball talent and experiences and had remarkably similar playing careers: both were well-educated, well-spoken World War II veterans and both had played spectacularly, albeit briefly, in the Negro Leagues. Like Robinson, Doby suffered brickbats, knock-down pitches, spit in his face, and other forms of abuse and discrimination. Doby was also a pioneering manager, becoming the second black manager after Frank Robinson. Well into the 1950s Doby was the only African American All-Star in the American League during a period in which fifteen black players became National League All-Stars. Why is Doby largely forgotten as a central figure in baseball’s integration? Why has he not been accorded his rightful place in baseball history? Greatness in the Shadows attempts to answer these questions, bringing Doby’s story to life and sharing his achievements and firsts with a new generation.

Fred Herzog's bold use of colour in the 1950s and 60s set him apart at a time when the only art photography taken seriously was in black and white. His early use of color make him a forerunner of "New Colour" photographers such as Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, who received widespread acclaim in the 1970s. Herzog images were all taken on Kodachrome, a slide film with a sharpness and tonal range that, until recently, could not be reproduced in prints, and his choice of medium limited his exhibition opportunities. Creatively bringing together constitutional, political, and aesthetic theory, Douglas argues that museums and constitutions invite visitors to identify with a prescribed set of political constituencies based on national, ethnic, or anthropocentric premises. In both cases, these stable categories gloss over the radical messiness of the world and ask us to conflate representation with democracy. Yet the museum, when paired with the constitution, can also serve as a resource in the production of alternative imaginations of community. Consequently, Douglas’s key contribution is the articulation of a theory of counter-monumental constitutionalism, using the museum, that seeks to move beyond individual and collective forms of sovereignty that have dominated postcolonial and postapartheid theories of law and commemoration. She insists on the need to reconsider deep questions about how we conceptualize the limits of ourselves, as well as our political communities, in order to attend to everyday questions of justice in the courtroom, the museum, and beyond.
