Born in Billings Montana, Donna Varnes and her husband, Ed have traveled through every state and ten countries, and consider all of the USA as "home." She and her husband of 41 years, have six children and 17 grandchildren. Donna considers their remote forty-acre homestead near Denali National Park, as her "nest." There they experienced the real Alaska by living in a small cabin, home-schooling their children, and using sled dogs in their everyday living. It was also the inspiration for several of her short-stories published in the Anchorage Daily News and Mushing Magazine. Donna earned an Associates Degree in Christian Ministries from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, as well as an AAS in Developmental Disabilities from Prince William Sound Community College in Valdez, Alaska, where she started writing The Cove. She also completed a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

For more than 80 years, the remarkable, wedding cake-like structure located on the eastern fringe of Phoenix has intrigued residents and visitors alike. Perched on a granite promontory, Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights reflects the dreams of several people. Alessio Carraro started construction in 1929, but the Depression spoiled his dream of a magnificent resort. E. A. Tovrea purchased the property in 1931 but died soon thereafter. Tovrea's widow, Della, after marrying William Plato Stuart in 1936, moved back and forth between the castle and Prescott, depending on the weather. When Stuart died in 1960, Della lived in the castle until her death in 1969. For many years after her death, the castle stood lonely and neglected, and it held its mystique because few people were ever invited inside. In 1993, the castle and surrounding acreage were acquired by the City of Phoenix for a new purpose: transformation into a city park.

Thomas Nashe was in a pickle. During the summer of 1597, he was banished from London for his co-authorship of the "scandalous" play "The Isle of Dogs." With its publishing houses and theaters, London was the place to be for a professional humorist, pamphleteer, and playwright like Nashe. In January, 1598, humorist Thomas Dekker came to life in the London record books; curiously, he wrote just like Nashe. The Archbishop of Canterbury destroyed Nashe’s works in 1599 and banned him from future publishing, and at some point between then and 1601 Nashe died, although details of his death are lacking. Thomas Dekker took up Nashe’s banner, however, specializing in Nashe’s mediums, plays and pamphlets plus poetry within them, tackling many of the same subjects in a similar style. Coincidence or deception? The Mysterious Connection between Thomas Nashe, Thomas Dekker, and T. M.: An English Renaissance Deception? sets forth substantial linguistic evidence that the witty Nashe out-witted authorities by assuming the identity of Thomas Dekker and writing under that name as well as T. M., Adam Evesdropper, Jocundary Merry-brains, Jack Daw, William Fennor, and Anonymous, making it appear that several authors could write in Nashe’s seemingly distinctive style. Under these names, it proposes, Nashe shed light onto societal abuses, and bestowed the gift of lightheartedness to all.
