Paul and Lori lingered in bed, relishing their solitude. He stroked the smooth curve that extended from her thigh over her hip to the valley of her waist, then up again to the margin of her breast. But the warning from Mariner, their mysterious mentor, prowled his thoughts. "If successful in this mission, you'll be hated, scorned, vilified, and persecuted. You might even lose your lives. You can still turn back, but this might be your last opportunity." Despite Mariner's caveat, the soul mates had felt compelled to accept the mission. "Mariner," Paul said, "you've given us the most powerful technology humans can imagine. It can heal terrible diseases, but it can kill to." "And from what history has taught us," Lori added, "we know that human leaders will use it for killing first and healing last." "Yes," Mariner replied, "you're in a race. Healing or killing. Which will win?" They got their first hint soon after they publicly revealed the carefully nurtured secrets Mariner had taught them. They were threatened in turn by military agents and an ambitious newspaper reporter. Mariner had been right. Their tranquility had shattered, and it was too late to turn back. AUTHOR BIO: When five years old, Dr. Watson asked two questions: "How do i know I exist?" and "What does it mean to die?" After finding the answers in the Theory of Enformed Systems, he used his experience in psychiatry, neuroscience, parapsychology, law, and politics to share them in this adventure story.
“Design for Flooding contains considerable useful information for practitioners and students. Watson and Adams fill the void for new thinking...and they advance our ability to create more sustainable, regenerative, and resilient places.” —Landscape Architecture Magazine
An acknowledged classic of narrative nature-writing, Donald Watson's The Hen Harrier was the culmination of a lifetime's study of this beautiful upland bird. A gentle, warm and wonderfully written book, The Hen Harrier stems from an age of 'amateur' conservation, from the pen of a man who cared deeply about birds and their habitats, especially of the Scottish borders where he conducted much of his research and painting. The book was among the last of a dying breed; it would be thirty years or more before writing on our natural history would again reach the heights of accessibility to nature-lovers exemplified by Donald Watson and his peers. The book starts with Watson setting down more or less everything known about harriers – which at that time often consisted of information sent by letter to the author, rather than published in a journal – before moving on to the story of Watson's years studying nests in the south-west of Scotland. With a foreword by conservation champion Mark Avery, this edition of Watson's greatest work is particularly timely. The conflict between grouse-shooting interests, which has overseen the virtual extinction of the harrier as a breeding bird in England through illegal persecution, and an increasingly vocal conservationist lobby is the number one conservation issue in Britain today. Donald Watson's narrative soars like a sky-dancing harrier throughout this book. Read it, and be taken back to a simpler age of nature conservation by a true master of the art.
Existing sections in ESD Frim A to Z have been thoroughly revised and updated. New examples have been added to the troubleshooting chapter; and new versions of model specifications for ESD-safe handling and packaging can be found in the specifications chapter. The Appendix now includes ten recently published papers (making a total of 20) whose topics span the field of ESD control.
This fictional novel is attention-grabbing, romantic adventure with an intriguing mystery. Throughout the controversial, historical timepiece, there are several shockers and then a few unexpected twist at the end. With an accurate accompaniment of music, television, styles and slang from the sixties, you'll feel as if you were there. The time was 1967, and San Francisco is the place. Until you've read it, the significance surrounding the space shall remain an enigma. The plot focuses on a frightened, naive, eighteen-year-old girl whom travels across country while on the run. She and friends participate in lots of factual events from that era such as " The Summer of Love," The heartwarming story consistently invokes a variation of emotions that fluctuate from sadness to laughter. Each character has a completely different personality and his or her own distinctive problems. They bicker and argue, but love one another like family. Share their experiences as they take part in the movement that changed the world.
This cost-effective approach to ESD-control situations provides a detailed and logical system that codifies control methods into specific model specifications that can be adapted to any program. By emphasizing the essentials of handling technique, it minimizes the need for expensive equipment beyond the reach of many budgets. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Birdwatchers' Year is, in essence, six 'years' of bird activity and behaviour as recorded, month by month, by six experienced bird watchers and ornithologists. The result is a fascinating compilation of fact, anecdote and general observation as seen and noted by the authors, that will appeal to birdwatchers at all levels of expertise. The habitats (Brent Reservoir in NW London, a Kentish woodland, the Ouse Washes in Cambridgeshire, farmland in Derbyshire, a mountain region of SW Scotland, and an island, the Calf of Man) encompass a wide and varied range of breeding, resident and passage birds, but the authors' observations are not confined to bird life alone - there are comments and 'asides' on many aspects of natural history and wildlife, weather and seasons, conservation and ecology. Each author has brought an individual approach to his 'diary' with the result that they are entertainingly diverse in style, content and viewpoint. The common factor throughout is an affectionate regard for the subject, an intimate knowledge of the habitat, and an evident understanding and knowledge of the birds and their environment. The diarists are: Leo Batten, Research Officer at the British Trust for Ornithology; Dr Jim Flegg, Director of the BTO; Jeremy Sorensen, RSPB Warden of the Ouse Washes; Donald Watson, bird artist and past-President of the Scottish Ornithologists' Club; Mike J. Wareing, farmer; Malcolm Wright, Warden of the Calf of Man Bird Observatory. The diaries are illustrated with line drawings by Ian Willis, except for that of Donald Watson, which is illustrated by its author. The bookjacket illustrations are by Ian Willis.

Modern medicine tends to concentrate on eradicating symptoms rather than addressing underlying causes. Not surprisingly, a growing number of people are turning to the more holistic approach of alternative therapies, which acknowledge the relationship between mind and body as the basis of good health. A Dictionary of Mind and Body provides a comprehensive, informative, and fascinating guide to therapies, ideas, and practices in alternative medicine, psychology, and the healing arts.
This is the story of Vic Watson. His childhood and adolescence were traumatic as he and his twin brother Ronald were moved from one foster home to another. Vic is remembered by his son Don as a man who made good by means of resourcefulness and an ability to make the most of every opportunity. This is also the story of Tasti Products, the company Vic founded in 1931 and which has grown to its present size and importance based on its large and very up-to-date site at Te Atatu in Auckland... Vic was a leading member of the New Lynn RSA and a New Lynn Borough Councillor. For a time he was chairman. He is remembered by the road named in his honour in New Lynn.
The combination of scientific and institutional integrity represented by this book is unusual. It should be a model for future endeavors to help quantify environmental risk as a basis for good decisionmaking." â€"William D. Ruckelshaus, from the foreword. This volume, prepared under the auspices of the Health Effects Institute, an independent research organization created and funded jointly by the Environmental Protection Agency and the automobile industry, brings together experts on atmospheric exposure and on the biological effects of toxic substances to examine what is knownâ€"and not knownâ€"about the human health risks of automotive emissions.
