What weve got here, is failure to communicate! One of my favorite phrases from the 1967 movie, Cool Hand Luke, brought home to me the importance of learning life lessons through cross-generational story-telling. Passing down the stories from one generation to the next is a rich tradition getting lost these days in a sea of tweets and texts. One cant truly know where one is heading, without knowing where one has come from so, fasten your seat belts, and learn more about: struggles of the early settlers in Iowa kid adventures of the 1950s fighting in the Civil War neighborhood battles with BB guns chasing after horse thieves slinging snowballs at trucks Teachings from Pop is a collection of stories, glimpses of time, from the original settlers in Iowa, to childhood in the fifties. The historical characters and circumstances portrayed in this book are based on real people and events. Combining the stories of several generations in the same location, the reader is transported from log cabins and Civil War days to hare-brained adventures in the 1950s. Boomers will remember these experiences as some of the best times ever, even though many were simply the stupid things kids dream up. Hopefully, this book will help people of today understand how life was back in the old days for the pioneers, through the mind-boggling changes that occurred during the next hundred-plus years.

Don Lerch was born and raised in Schuyler County, Illinois. He began coon hunting as a young boy and continued until he was no longer able to go. As a young boy, coon hunting was a necessity for meals, as there were nine other siblings, and the hides were as important because they would provide money for cloths, shoes, groceries or whatever might be needed for the family. Don and his wife Char retired in 2005 to spend more time together. He lost her in 2006 shortly after retirement. Although she was not a coon hunter, she was a rock of support throughout their marriage. The have two children and seven grandchildren. Don published his first book in 2012 and the response was so great for another one, be began gathering stories and went to work again. These stories generate from six different counties, Adams, Brown, Cass, Fulton, McDonough and Schuyler and span from the 1930's till present day. You will read about heartbreaking losses, mule riding, trying to cross the river without a plug in the boat, forgetting the gun, getting lost and some hunts you wish you had been along for the ride. The thrill of the hunt is priceless. Although Don is no longer able to hunt, the "fever" is still there, and as long as their are coon hunters, there will be stories, and he will listen.

Dongshin Don Chang examines 1 and 2 Maccabees, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and Hebrews to see how the combined concepts of covenant and priesthood are defined and interlinked within various biblical and extra-biblical traditions. The three studies show the interesting and varying dynamics of the use of combined concepts of covenant and priesthood. The articulations of the two entities are shown to reflect, in part, the concern of the Second Temple Jewish authors; how significant the priestly institutions and priesthood were, not only in cultic matters, but also in relation to political and authoritative concerns. Chang's analysis makes clear that some of the Second Temple compositions have pursued ideas of the legitimacy of priestly identities by juxtaposing the concepts of covenant and priesthood from various traditions. Interpretation and representation of certain traditions becomes a way in which some Second Temple Jews, and some members of the early Jewish Christian communities, developed their priestly covenantal identities. It is with an understanding of this, Chang argues, that we can better understand these Second Temple texts.
