God Almighty is the Creator of heaven and earth. He has the sovereignty and has the supreme power above everything of what we see and the unseen. The mighty and exalted one. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, the beginning and the end. In the Old Testament, the one who says to Moses, “I Am who I Am.” Yahweh/El-Shaddai. In all creation of God, the human is the most highly created by God because we were created by His own image and likeness. God created humans for His glory. Therefore, the main purpose for our life is to glorify God. We can only glorify God through faith by believing in His words. We should live by faith because the Scriptures says without faith, it is impossible to please God. Anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him. Life in this world is going to be a roller coaster with many ups and downs. But you should not be controlled by your circumstances. God wants you to be stable, be consistent, and not be shaken by any adversity. When facing difficulties, when life seems to have no way out and has already come to a dead end and already hit the ground, that’s the time you have to activate your faith in God’s promises. The word of God is a strong tower. His promises are true. You must believe and trust in the power of His words. Always remember, you have assurance of victory through His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Live by faith and live with peace knowing our God is the controller of everything. Glorify God in your life by living by faith in God’s promises.
This book analyses how arbitrators make rules that guide, constrain, and define the process and substance of international arbitration. Providing a thorough and multidisciplinary analysis of the actors, process, and outcome of arbitral lawmaking, the study shows how arbitrators create principles of law through consistent arbitral decision-making and through interacting with other members of the arbitral community. This book investigates and responds to the following questions: - What is the relationship between international arbitration and the law and courts of the seat? - What is the role of international tribunals in assisting and controlling investment arbitration? - What is the scope of arbitrators’ freedom in decision-making? - What constraints limit arbitrators’ decision-making and contribute to consistency? - Is international arbitration capable of paying deference to past arbitral decisions? - Which rules have arbitrators created in procedural and substantive matters? - What is the role and status of consistent arbitral decisions? - Is there an arbitral legal system? The answers to these questions are drawn from actual arbitral decisions made available to the public, clarifying important issues about jurisdiction, procedure, applicable law, interpretation of substantive rules and instruments, and remedies. This is the first overarching study of whether and to what extent international commercial, and investment arbitrators create norms and even generate a legal system. As such, it will be of immeasurable and lasting value to arbitrators, practitioners, scholars, arbitral institutions, and international organizations worldwide, for all of whom it will not only clarify our understanding of arbitral decision-making and arbitrator-made rules, but also foster transparency and accountability in arbitral decision-making

The breadth and richness of themes and styles in Dolores PridaÕs theater make this collection a reading experience almost as wonderful as seeing the plays themselves. Prida has mapped the urban landscape and covered many of the most important topics of her timeÑfeminism, racism, classism, bilingualism and biculturalismÑquite often tempering their seriousness with humor, pathos and music. This anthology includes: Beautiful Se–oritas (1977), a musical satire of womenÕs roles and images in Hispanic culture; Coser y Cantar (1981), a bilingual one-act play for two women which explores culture clash, especially as it concerns womenÕs roles; Savings (1985), a musical comedy about ÒgentrificationÓ; Pantallas (1986), a ÒblackÓ comedy on the subject of TV soap operas and nuclear disasters; and Bot‡nica (1990), a play about three generations of Puerto Rican women grappling with gaps and discrepancies in time and culture. Dolores Prida is ranked among the most important playwrights of the contemporary Hispanic theater in the United States. She has written for the stage and television and taught play-writing techniques.

We live in an increasingly more globalized world, where living and working with people of various cultures is a nearly everyday occurrence. These interactions, combined with ever-growing opportunities for students to explore and study in foreign settings, make it important to master effective ways to engage and learn from these experiences. Intercultural Communication will engage readers interested in developing intercultural competence with an eye towards fostering diverse and vibrant communities that coexist peacefully. The authors begin by defining competent communication and describing how it contributes to peaceful communities before considering how cultural differences relate to the effects of cultural frames, emotions, and nonverbal and verbal communication. The second half of the book surveys how culture influences friendships, families, classrooms, workplaces, the media, and our visits to cultures different from our own. Recognizing the effects of these influences allows readers to take advantage of opportunities and overcome obstacles to more fully immerse themselves in a different way of life. Each chapter offers various boxed inserts with important and entertaining insights to supplement topics and provide opportunities for discussion.
In this book, nationally recognized public procurement experts Dolores Kuchina-Musina and Benjamin McMartin present a comprehensive analysis of the alternative contract vehicles used to promote innovation in the United States (US). Kuchina-Musina and McMartin begin by introducing the innovation policy environment in the US, addressing current trends in the workforce, decreased investment in research and development (R&D), and how technology is increasing at a rapid speed. They then go on to discuss key terms and subjects to show how public procurement and innovation policy are tied together. Diving deeper, Kuchina-Musina and McMartin examine the pathways the federal government uses such as the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) part 12 acquisition, a review of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, and non-FAR-based contract overview with a specific focus on Other Transaction Authorities (OTA). Using the new Department of Defense (DoD) prototype OTA that was enacted in November 2015, Kuchina-Musina and McMartin conclude by presenting a methodology for examining the effectiveness of OTs. Specifically, they show the way the government is evaluating the DoD statute and discussions on some of the additional guidance the DoD uses to implement this authority. Bringing academic literature on innovation policy and applying it to the practitioner environment, Public Procurement for Innovation provide its audience an understanding of models, methods, and techniques the US uses to promote the development of innovative technologies and products. Clearly written and impeccably researched, the book fills a huge void in the literature on public procurement.
DOLORES PALA was born and grew up in New York. She first went to Paris at the age of twenty where she still lives. She worked with the United Nations and with an organization dealing with exiles from Central Europe during the icy early years of the Cold War from which she derived the colorful, taut atmosphere of Vienna that is the background to Run A Hollow Road. She describes young Americans abroad then, so different from Hemingway's characters, in a Europe dangerously torn by conflicting ideologies, a long way from the Charleston. And she shows how the fifties bore little resemblance to the twenties. Yet the young Americans abroad she introduces us to are endearing, even flamboyant, enjoying the freedom of Europe, bent on fulfilling themselves no matter what the social climate of the times. Each in his own way and in radically different voices, introduce us to a yesterday we have almost forgotten and an innocence barely lost. RUN A HOLLOW ROAD is her third novel. It takes place in Vienna and spans a decade of international intrigue and contending ideologies at a nerve center in our divided world. The characters are young and American, the background is old and very European. It is a novel of contrasts, tenderness and tension, commitment and elusiveness. It introduces us to life-sized characters and a few who prove to be outsized and everlasting. It is a portrait of a period and after reading it we are enriched.

The Grammar and Lexis of Conversational Informal English in Advanced Textbooks defends the view that the acquisition of conversational English depends highly on the kind of materials available to L2 learners. The need to acquire a proficient competence in English is growing exponentially in an incessantly demanding society, but it is the oral skill, and more specifically the ability to communicate in everyday situations, that learners are calling for. The current learning process, nonetheless, is not particularly effective, as is shown in the data collected by the Eurobarometer and published in June 2012, which shows that only 38% of the Europeans surveyed were able to maintain a conversation in English, although 67% believed it to be the most useful language to learn for personal development. The present study supports the idea expressed in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which states that a language is learnt “reactively, following the instructions and carrying out the activities prescribed for them by teachers and by textbooks” (2001: 141). Consequently, these materials should reflect the everyday use of informal discourse and allow learners to analyse, understand and interpret the different underlying messages conveyed by means of lexico-syntactic, as well as paralinguistic, elements. The book is divided into seven chapters in which various different linguistic aspects of conversation are dealt with. In the opening chapters, spoken language is presented and approached as a multidimensional entity, particularly as the sum of lexico-syntactic and socio-linguistic elements. The following chapters provide a description of the main characteristics of conversational English based on corpus-informed grammars and publications. The final chapter analyses twenty ESL textbooks in order to determine how corpus data has influenced the materials designed for the acquisition of conversational discourse.

Grounded in a systemic functional linguistic (SFL) approach, this book applies a contrastive interlanguage corpus-based approach to investigate the nature and role of L2 intonation and its pragmatic function in spoken discourse. The volume offers a brief overview of SFL theories and frameworks, with a clear focus on Halliday’s model of phonology and the proposal of developing a grammar of speech. Integrating a SFL framework with a corpus linguistic-informed approach, the book uses this foundation as a jumping-off point from which to explore the prosodic complexities involved in English language teaching and learning for L2 learners, highlighting its various functions as illustrated in examples from the UAM English Learner Spoken Corpus. A final chapter synthesizes these findings toward critically reflecting on future directions for the study of L2 speech prosody. This book will be key reading for graduate students and researchers in applied linguistics and English language teaching.
Based on her extensive experience in the urban communities of Los Angeles, historian and architect Dolores Hayden proposes new perspectives on gender, race, and ethnicity to broaden the practice of public history and public art, enlarge urban preservation, and reorient the writing of urban history to spatial struggles. In the first part of The Power of Place, Hayden outlines the elements of a social history of urban space to connect people's lives and livelihoods to the urban landscape as it changes over time. She then explores how communities and professionals can tap the power of historic urban landscapes to nurture public memory. The second part documents a decade of research and practice by The Power of Place, a nonprofit organization Hayden founded in downtown Los Angeles. Through public meetings, walking tours, artists's books, and permanent public sculpture, as well as architectural preservation, teams of historians, designers, planners, and artists worked together to understand, preserve, and commemorate urban landscape history as African American, Latina, and Asian American families have experienced it. One project celebrates the urban homestead of Biddy Mason, an African American ex-slave and midwife active betwen 1856 and 1891. Another reinterprets the Embassy Theater where Rose Pesotta, Luisa Moreno, and Josefina Fierro de Bright organized Latina dressmakers and cannery workers in the 1930s and 1940s. A third chapter tells the story of a historic district where Japanese American family businesses flourished from the 1890s to the 1940s. Each project deals with bitter memories—slavery, repatriation, internment—but shows how citizens survived and persevered to build an urban life for themselves, their families, and their communities. Drawing on many similar efforts around the United States, from New York to Charleston, Seattle to Cincinnati, Hayden finds a broad new movement across urban preservation, public history, and public art to accept American diversity at the heart of the vernacular urban landscape. She provides dozens of models for creative urban history projects in cities and towns across the country.
This analysis of the relationship between science and totalitarian rule in one of the most technically advanced countries in the East bloc examines professional autonomy under dictatorship and the place of technology in Communist ideology. In Cold War-era East Germany, the German tradition of science-based technology merged with a socialist system that made technological progress central to its ideology. Technology became an important part of East German socialist identity--crucial to how Communists saw their system and how citizens saw their state. In Red Prometheus, Dolores Augustine examines the relationship between a dictatorial system and the scientific and engineering communities in East Germany from the end of the Second World War through the 1980s. Drawing on newly opened archives and extensive interviews, Augustine looks in detail at individual scientists' interactions with the East German system, examining the effectiveness of their resistance against the party's totalitarian impulses. She explains why many German scientists and engineers who were deported to the Soviet Union after World War II returned to East Germany rather than defecting to the capitalist West, traces scientists' attempts to hold on to some aspects of professional autonomy, and describes challenges to their professional identity on the factory floor. Augustine examines the quality of science and technology produced under Communist rule, looking at failed research projects and clashing cultures of innovation. She looks at technological myth-building in science fiction and propaganda. She explores individual career strategies, including the role played by gender in high-tech professions, and the ways that both enterprises and individuals responded to increasing state and party control of research during the 1980s. We cannot understand the economic choices made by East Germany, Augustine argues, unless we understand the cultural values reflected in the East German belief in technology as indispensable to progress and industrial development.
