Organized and trained during 1943, the 10th SS Panzer Division saw its first action in the spring of 1944 during the relief of an encircled German army on the Eastern Front. Several months later, in response to the Allied invasion at Normandy, the division returned to the West in mid-June 1944. Here the division engaged in a series of armored attacks and counterattacks against British and American forces. The 10th SS briefly held off a few enemy thrusts but gradually had to fall back to Falaise, where the division escaped the Allied encirclement with no tanks and only a fraction of its men. The 10th SS Panzer Division next defended against the Allied parachute assault during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. Depleted and now a division in name only, the 10th SS fought in Alsace before Hitler sent it to the Eastern Front again. There, east of Berlin, the division participated in the final battles to enable the escape of German soldiers and civilians from Soviet captivity.

This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction into the areas of human action planning and action control. It discusses the basic theoretical issues and questions in understanding the planning and control of human goal-directed action. The authors begin by presenting an integrative theoretical framework and the neurobiological foundations of action planning and execution. Subsequent chapters discuss how goals are represented and how they guide action control; how perception and action interact; how simple and complex actions are selected and planned; how multitasking works; and how actions are monitored. Topics of interest include: stimulus-triggered selections, rule-based selections, intentional action selections, and intuitive decision-making. Human Action Control is a must-have resource for advanced undergraduates, graduates, and doctorate students in cognitive psychology and related areas, such as the cognitive neurosciences, and developmental and social psychology.

You are out of your minds!" That was the reaction of many when they heard. Klaus and Martina John were planning to build a modern hospital for the Peruvian Indios - without any capital, income, or loans. But the resulting story of Diospi Suyana has become a thriller full of miracles and examples of divine providence. Since its inauguration in 2007, the adventure has continued as Diospi Suyana has regularly faced danger, corruption, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. And yet it continues to grow. The Hospital of Hope has been the subject of 500+ media reports around the world. The unexpected twists and turns in its history has fascinated millions.
This is an open access book. This course-tested text is an ideal starting point for engineers and physicists entering the field of particle accelerators. The fundamentals are comprehensively introduced, derivations of essential results are provided and a consistent notation style used throughout the book allows readers to quickly familiarize themselves with the field, providing a solid theoretical basis for further studies. Emphasis is placed on the essential features of the longitudinal motion of charged particle beams, together with the corresponding RF generation and power amplification devices for synchrotron and storage ring systems. In particular, electrical engineering aspects such as closed-loop control of system components are discussed. The book also offers a valuable resource for graduate students in physics, electronics engineering, or mathematics looking for an introductory and self-contained text on accelerator physics.
Hepatology -- a systematic overview The 1st edition was sold out within one year and a reprint became necessary. The 2nd edition has been updated, revised and extended to include some 900 pages. Unique - 477 top-quality coloured figures containing clinical and immunological findings, laparoscopic and and histologic features as well as imaging procedures - all figures directly integrated in the respective text; this results in a new form of learning from "seeing" to "understanding" Attractive - 306 tables in colour - coloured highlighting of important principles and statements for better reading - well-structured and systematic approaches support the content - derived from clinical hepatology for practical use by specialists and in hospital Instructive - detailed presentation of morphology and its integration in liver disease - precise recommendations for therapy and summarized descriptions of special forms of treatment (inlcuding a separate chapter on "Therapy" Manual - about 7,000 references are listed in full; quotations of significant historical publications - first authors of therapy procedures, methods, medical techniques and invasive measures are given as far as possible - comprehensive subject index and register of abbreviations
Some years ago the Gmelin Institute started to supplement the volumes on halogens and halogen compounds. For the elements chlorine and fluorine these supplementary volumes have already been finished. For the element bromine the volume A 1 is also available. Now the volume B 1 will be published starting with the description of the compounds of bromine. The present volume describes the compounds of bromine with rare gases and with hydrogen. The volume is dominated by the description of HBr and its aqueous solution, hydrobromic acid. Chemical and physical properties of the diatomic molecule HBr are extremely well studied by modern methods. Thus detailed descriptions are given of gas-phase properties, spectra, and properties of condensed phases. Emphasis is laid on elementary reaction processes such as energy transfer and single reaction steps for HBr formation and decomposition. These studies have become classics of modern reaction kinetics. Likewise, elementary reactions of HBr and Br- with nonmetallic compounds are described comprehensively.
