This is a compilation of references to Family History and temple work from the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and Modern Church Leaders. Also there is a chapter on faith promoting stories from family history experiences and a chapter on family stories and descendant charts of the Grigg family. There is information on how modern research techniques using computers, digitizing of records and the internet facilitates the researching and finding of your ancestors. The last chapter is an update and republishing of the the book titled Parley M. Grigg, Jr. and Thankful Halsey Gardner's Descendants and History published in 1992. This correlated publication shows that in all ages of the world since the creation of Adam, God has desired His Holy Ordinances to be done in a House built to His name, namely a Temple of God. This compilation is also designed to show that Jesus' plan of redemption for all mankind includes vicarious ordinance work for the dead to be done in God's Holy Temples by those living in the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. This was all in God's plan for the redemption of all mankind before the foundation of this world.

Although it seems more and more churches are striving for megachurch status, the simple fact is, defined by attendance and membership, most of todays churches of all denominations are classified as small or medium-sized. Not blessed with large membership rolls and budgets, these churches have issues unique to them. In his book, Beyond the Plateau: Hope and Help for the Small and Medium Church, author Dick Sisk helps pastors and members of those churches find an edge, formula, or path to finding renewed church growth. Sisk explains the unchanging principles that affect church health. When church health is strong, so is church growth. He discusses principles such as the Prayer Principle, the Evangelism Principle, and the Visibility Principle. After learning about the principles, youll be able to contextualize, adapt, and implement them in your situation and see what God does. If you are tired of trying to press your situation into someone elses mold, one that doesnt fit, Beyond the Plateau: Hope and Help for the Small and Medium Church will be a sound investment of your time. Dr. Sisk not only addresses the issues, he offers helpful and useful solutions for pastors and leaders to employ. This book is a great gift to the church and those who lead them. Danny Sinquefield, Senior Pastor, Faith Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee

These remarkable portraits reveal the true spirit of the American pioneers who forged much of the heart of this nation, but whose achievements have been largely overlooked. New York Times bestselling author Dick Russell examines the lives of musicians, civil rights leaders, philosophers, writers, and actors including Duke Ellington, Will Marion Cook, Louis Armstrong, Wynton Marsalis, Albert Murray, Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, and Romare Bearden. Concluding with a list of sources and suggested reading, this fascinating and vibrant look at American history is a must for any collection.

Most of us live in consensus trance - a state of consciousness produced by ideological blunting of our intellect through intensive manipulation (brainwashing), which forces us to accept false conception of reality. And the worst is that we very rarely know if the thoughts in our head are ours or have been skillfully suggested by someone or something else (e.g., subliminals hidden behind music, or flashed on a screen so fast that you don't consciously see them, or cleverly incorporated into a picture). In the entire history of man, no one has ever been brainwashed and realized, or believed, that he had been brainwashed. This book is composed of the articles which present the Big Picture of mass and individual mind control and its various techniques.

An unforgettable look at a lifetime of Twins baseball packed with Bremer's self-deprecating humor and passion for the game ? Dick Bremer's distinctive baritone has served as the soundtrack of Minnesota Twins baseball for over three decades. Millions of fans have enjoyed his observations, insight, and magical storytelling on television broadcasts. Now, in this striking memoir, the Minnesota native and lifelong Twins fan takes fans behind the mic, into the clubhouse, and beyond as only he can. Told through 108 unique anecdotes—one for each stitch in a baseball—Bremer weaves the tale of a lifetime, from childhood memories of the ballfield in smalltown Dumont, Minnesota, to his early radio days as "The Duke in the Dark," to champagne-soaked clubhouses in 1987 and 1991, and his encounters with Twins legends ranging from Calvin Griffith and Harmon Killebrew, to Kirby Puckett and Kent Hrbek, to Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. This honest and engaging autobiography gives fans a rare seat alongside Bremer and his broadcast partners, including Killebrew, Bert Blyleven, Jack Morris, Jim Kaat, Tom Kelly, and other Twins legends.
That Was Entertainment: The Golden Age of the MGM Musical traces the development of the MGM musical from The Broadway Melody (1929) through its heyday in the 1940s and 1950s and its decline in the 1960s, culminating in the notorious 1970 MGM auction when Judy Garland's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Charlton Heston's chariot from Ben-Hur, and Fred Astaire's trousers and dress shirt from Royal Wedding vanished to the highest bidders. That Was Entertainment uniquely reconstructs the life of Arthur Freed, whose unit at MGM became the gold standard against which the musicals of other studios were measured. Without Freed, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ann Miller, Betty Garrett, Cyd Charisse, Arlene Dahl, Vera-Ellen, Lucille Bremer, Gloria DeHaven, Howard Keel, and June Allyson would never have had the signature films that established them as movie legends. MGM's past is its present. No other studio produced such a range of musicals that are still shown today on television and all of which are covered in this volume, from integrated musicals in which song and dance were seamlessly embedded in the plot (Meet Me in St. Louis and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) to revues (The Hollywood Revue of 1929 and Ziegfeld Follies); original musicals (Singin' in the Rain, Easter Parade, and It's Always Fair Weather); adaptations of Broadway shows (Girl Crazy, On the Town, Show Boat, Kiss Me Kate, Brigadoon, Kismet, and Bells Are Ringing); musical versions of novels and plays (Gigi, The Pirate, and Summer Holiday); operettas (the films of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy); mythico-historical biographies of composers (Johann Strauss Jr. in The Great Waltz and Sigmund Romberg in Deep in My Heart); and musicals featuring songwriting teams (Rodgers and Hart in Words and Music and Kalmar and Ruby in Three Little Words), opera stars (Enrico Caruso in The Great Caruso and Marjorie Lawrence in Interrupted Melody), and pop singers (Ruth Etting in Love Me or Leave Me). Also covered is the water ballet musical--in a class by itself--with Esther Williams starring as MGM's resident mermaid. This is a book for longtime lovers of the movie musical and those discovering the genre for the first time.

I joined the teachers’ revolution of the 60s, expecting to work for a just and honored profession. Colliding symbiotic values fomented into the experiences that defined my future. The established order asked us to comply and compromise. Idealism required us to accommodate pragmatism while never compromising our passion for justice. Mine is a story about choices. Choices that took me from school teacher to teacher advocate, from the teachings of John Calvin to the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza, from conservative to the progressive/left. A path guided by inculcated values, influenced by social and political events, molded by mentors and interrupted by tragedy. Along the way I met great teachers, organizers, philosophers, policy makers, writers, and presidents. Born into a conservative rural, Iowa family, I was inspired by Bobby Kennedy’s promise of withdrawal from Viet Nam and his passion to fulfill Martin Luther King’s vision of a just society. But Bobby was gone and with him much of the hope he had inspired. Flying away from my safe, predictable life as a teacher near Lake Okoboji, I hoped to embrace a new life as an organizer. Today, as I reflect on life’s lessons, I believe that justice, mercy, and humility should guide the organizer’s mantra: “Educate, Agitate, Organize.”

Imagine what it must have been like to be in Las Vegas during its most glamorous and eventful years: the 1950s, the 1960s, and the 1970s.Back then, "the boys" ran the town, dinner shows were a dollar, and vacant lots on what is now the Strip sold for $5 an acre. Tallulah played baccarat, Shecky shot dice, and Frank dealt blackjack.Fly on the Wall chronicles those times, as well as the men and women who shaped them.As a reporter for two of the city's most respected newspapers and a publicist for two of the city's most infamous casinos, Dick Odessky was in the thick of itthe proverbial fly on the wall. His recollections of Las Vegas' good old bad old days put you in the thick of it, too.

Ted Williams capped a storybook baseball career with a storybook ending, hitting a home run in his last at bat in the major leagues. That blast, on a dreary September 28, 1960, at Boston's Fenway Park, ushered in a post-playing career during which the Red Sox legend would become a first-ballot Hall of Famer just six years later. During his retirement, he maintained his longtime active assistance of the Jimmy Fund in its fight against cancer, encouraged youngsters at his Ted Williams Baseball Camp, and coached current and future big leaguers in Red Sox spring training. In 1969, he was named American League Manager of the Year; in 1991, he received a Presidential Medal of Freedom from George H.W. Bush; and in 1995, a Boston tunnel was dedicated in his honor. In one of his last appearances, Ted joined fellow nominees for baseball's All-Century Team at the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park--creating an iconic, lasting image of the man known as "The Kid," the "Splendid Splinter," and "Teddy Ballgame.

How did the most recognizable voice in broadcasting get his start? By asking for a mop. In this humorous, poignant, and well written autobiography, Dick Enberg shares the stories behind the voice of sports in America. A tireless worker whose boyish enthusiasm for athletics has never diminished, Enberg ?rst walked into a radio station in 1956 to apply for a janitorial position. He wound up on the air instead and a legend was created. In the half-century that Enberg has been in the sportscasting business he has called everything from the World Series to the Super Bowl. Traveling across the country and around the world, Enberg has called football games in weather so frigid that his coffee froze before he could drink it, been challenged to a ?ght by an irate baseball player, led the Notre Dame band in a rendition of “The 1812 Overture,” and been threatened with ejection at Wimbledon because he was shouting too loudly into his microphone. Those stories and hundreds more are told in Dick Enberg: Oh My! with wit and candor, as Enberg not only relives some of sports’ greatest moments, but takes readers into the booth and behind the camera. “Sportscasting is a kid’s dream come true,” he says, “which is one of the reasons that I keep doing it. I can’t let my dream go. I’m still in love with what I do.”

This is the story the daily press didn't give us. It may be the definitive book about what happened at Mt. Carmel, near Waco, Texas, examined from both sides—the Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the FBI on one hand, and David Koresh and his followers on the other. Dick J. Reavis contends that the government had little reason to investigate Koresh and even less to raid the compound at Mt. Carmel. The government lied to the public about most of what happened—about who fired the first shots, about drug allegations, about child abuse. The FBI was duplicitous and negligent in gassing Mt. Carmel-and that alone could have started the fire that killed seventy-six people. Drawing on interviews with survivors of Koresh's movement (which dates back to 1935), as well as from esoteric religious tracts and audiotapes, and previously undisclosed government documents, Reavis uncovers the real story of the burning at Waco, including the trial that followed. The author quotes from Koresh himself to create an extraordinary portrait of a movement, an assault, and an avoidable tragedy.
