In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, we discuss considerations, and describe a methodology, for transitioning from Microsoft® SQL Server 2008 to the Informix® Dynamic Server. We focus on the topic areas of data, applications, and administration, providing information about the differences in features and functionality, including the data types, data manipulation language, data definition language, and stored procedures. Understanding the features and functionality of the two products assists you in developing a migration plan. We provide a conversion methodology and discuss the processes for migrating the database objects and data from SQL Server to Informix using various methods. We show the SQL differences between SQL Server and Informix and illustrate, with examples, how to convert tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers. We provide script conversion samples for data loading. We describe application programming and conversion considerations. In addition, we discuss the Informix configuration, as well as the administration features and functions Informix provides to help DBAs manage the Informix database server after it is migrated. With this information, you can develop your required transition methodology, and you can plan and execute the conversion activities in an orderly and cost-effective manner.

The book describes the rise of science (and technology) in the Islamic Golden Age, examines the causes that led to its decline, reviews failed later attempts for its revival and finally discusses social and religious reformation needed for it to flourish in contemporary Muslim societies. Social reformation covers rule of law, democratic infra-structure and human-rights, while religious reformation involves the reinterpretation of scripture. It is argued that without such a social and religious reformation, Muslims (a quarter of the earth's population) will be less able to participate in the science-driven 21st century world. Note that Muslim leaders in the UK and elsewhere are not addressing the need of such an essential reformation, without which, Muslims as a people will remain in a limbo and thus continue to be vulnerable to extremist ideas. The Palestinian National Authority: Studies of the Experience and Performance 1994-2013

Almost twenty years after the Oslo Accords and the formation of the Palestinian National Authority (PA), there is a need to examine this experience in all its aspects, especially since it has not achieved its main goal: the transition from an autonomous authority to an independent state with full sovereignty over the 1967 occupied Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip). This book is a comprehensive study of the PA and its experience. The 15 chapters analyze the aspects of the PA establishment and its legislative, judicial and presidential institutions, as well as the performance of successive governments. The book deals with the internal Palestinian situation, the security forces, the PA position towards the resistance forces, and economic, demographic, educational and health conditions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It also tackles the corruption in the PA, the relationship between the PA and the media, as well as its foreign policy. This book is a systematic, scientific study that forensically documents the PA experience. It has undergone the usual procedures of scientific editing, including the reviewing of texts and references.
