I know that you may read this and think that a forty-something-year-old woman had more important things to do. But I am telling you, when you connect with someone not from this material world that has told you information only you could know, you would also be compelled to learn more. The fact that she revealed the 1,2,3,4, simply cemented my belief. No one had known this. It was a trifling thing that I had just been noticing for a while. She was giving me the passwordthe one thing that would cinch it for me. Now, I had many questions to ask. Debra led her life as most of us do. She worked, raised her children, and had a social circle of friends with her husband. She didnt do a lot of questioning about the meaning of her life until simultaneous events triggered her to think about love and loss, her purpose, and the afterlife. She takes us on her journey of discovery with experiences from her past, unreal experiences in the present, and the advent of her daughters psychic talent. Could expanding our beliefs of spirituality and possibility lead us to experience true love from the other side? Is there more than one realm of existence living cohesively? She found many answers, along with many more questions. She now believes we are never alone. This non-fictional account involves the paranormal, the growth of her daughter as a medium, and the encompassing love of those around us we knowand some we dont know. Take heart and join her journey; there is much more to this life than what we see with our eyes.

Based on the accounts of midwives, their descendants, and the women they served, In the Way of Our Grandmothers tells of the midwife's trade--her principles, traditions, and skills--and of the competing medical profession's successful program to systematically destroy the practice. The rural South was one of the last strongholds of the traditional "granny" midwife. Whether she came by her trade through individual choice or inherited a practice from an older relative, a woman who accepted the "call" of midwife launched a lifelong vocation of public service. While the profession was arduous, it had numerous rewards. Midwives assumed positions of leadership within their communities, were able to define themselves and their actions on their own terms, and derived a great sense of pride and satisfaction from performing a much-loved job. Despite national statistics that placed midwives above all other attendants in low childbirth mortality, Florida's state health experts began in the early twentieth century to view the craft as a menace to public health. Efforts to regulate midwives through education and licensing were part of a long-term plan to replace them with modern medical and hospital services. Eager to demonstrate their good will and common interest, most midwives complied with the increasingly restrictive rules imposed by the state, unknowingly contributing to the demise of their own profession. The recent interest of the youthful middle class in home birth methods has been accompanied by a rediscovery of the midwife's craft. Yet the new midwifery represents the state's successful attainment of a long-awaited goal: the replacement of the traditional lay midwife with the modern nurse-midwife. In the Way of Our Grandmothers provides a voice for the few women in the South who still remember the earlier trade--one that evolved organically from the needs of women and existed outside the realms of men.

Debra J. Bassett offers a holistic exploration of this phenomenon and presents qualitative data from three groups of participants: service providers, digital creators, and digital inheritors. For the bereaved, loss of data, lack of control, or digital obsolescence can lead to a second loss, and this book introduces the theory of ‘the fear of second loss’. Bassett argues that digital afterlives challenge and disrupt existing grief theories, suggesting how these theories might be expanded to accommodate digital inheritance. This interdisciplinary book will be of interest to sociologists, cyber psychologists, philosophers, death scholars, and grief counsellors. But Bassett’s book can also be seen as a canary in the coal mine for the ‘intentional’ Digital Afterlife Industry (DAI) and their race to monetise the dead. This book provides an understanding of the profound effects uncontrollable timed posthumous messages and the creation of thanabots could have on the bereaved, and Bassett’s conception of a Digital Do Not Reanimate (DDNR) order and a voluntary code of conduct could provide a useful addition to the DAI. Even in the digital societies of the West, we are far from immortal, but perhaps the question we really need to ask is: who wants to live forever?

From humble beginnings in 1873 as a water stop on the Cairo and Fulton Railroad, Cabot is now the largest city in Lonoke County. The area enjoys a colorful history, once being crossed by the Butterfield Overland Express, the Southwest Trail, and a route of the Trail of Tears. During the Civil War, the area was the site of an important Confederate camp that is commemorated by a memorial cemetery. In 1976, the city was devastated by a killer tornado that destroyed much of the old business district. Since its recovery from the storm, the city has experienced steady growth and has been designated an Arkansas boomtown.
