Jerri Bartman never imagined herself dressed up like a ghoul, hosting the late-night creature feature in her small hometown of Beloit, Missouri. Of course, she never imagined that she might be an alcoholic… or the fact that monsters are real. Not only are these the sobering facts, but Jerri seems to be the only person capable of battling the growing threat of zombies, werewolves, and vampires spinning fake news into the world. Reluctantly embracing her mission as a monster hunter, Jerri will have to swallow her pride, lace up her combat boots, and figure out the real way to slay the stalking creatures of the night. Collects Count Crowley: Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter issues #1–#4.
Lock your doors and gather close . . . if you dare! Once a rising TV journalist, Jerri Bartman has returned to her small Midwest hometown station. Demoted to hosting the nightly Creature Feature, Jerri's professional humiliation is eclipsed by the discovery that her new job comes with a secret, supernatural duty. Her missing predecessor, Count Crowley, was one of the last "Appointed" hunters of monsters. Yes. Monsters. They're real and they're hell bent on controlling the news and information consumed by humans. Everything we've ever been taught about monsters is a lie and Jerri's only possible advisor is a senile male chauvinist. It's 1983 and the outlook for humanity is getting . . . gnarly and their only hope is an alcoholic, acerbic horror host from Missouri. David Dastmalchian's authorial comics debut with artist Lukas Ketner--this terrifying trade collects issues #1-#4 of the Dark Horse Comics series Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter!

God guides our witness and our walk... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the book of Acts in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. In the book of Acts, we have a record of the most fertile period of outreach in the history of Christianity. Churches were planted near and far as Jesus' followers proclaimed the message of Christ. Luke's record in Acts reveals that God places a premium on the spread of the gospel. He blesses our efforts to make disciples of all nations, one person at a time, and sends us His Spirit to guide our words, give us wisdom, and bolster our courage. We also learn that God is with us even during times of persecution and opposition--and He uses those times to sharpen us and make us effective instruments for His work. Gunn sets out his aim in this book to foster a fresh understanding of the narrative about David in 2 Samuel and 1 Kings, commonly known as the 'Succession Narrative,' by arguing for its fuller appreciation of its nature as a story. Gunn reviews the different hypotheses on the genre of the so-called Court History/Succession Narrative and concludes that the purpose of this story is to entertain. The work is to be considered primarily artistic and literary, and the rhetorical devices in the story are reliant on traditional motifs and devices.

Don't you deserve a little happiness? They are the questions that plague us: Is happiness within my reach? Why is life so frustrating? Is it too late for me? Or to put another way, "Where can I find a little heaven on earth?" History's most successful man, Solomon, wondered just that. As Dr. David Jeremiah shows us, he was a man who tested life's haunting questions head-on. And tasted life's riches full-on. And who found his answers in the last place he thought to look. Listen, then, to his voice. A voice that, if you pay attention, will speak directly to your flesh and bones and heart. A voice that admits: Maybe happiness is an empty hope. Or maybe we've simply been looking in all the wrong places. . .
God's grace cannot be earned... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the letter of Galatians in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. Paul's letter is written to those who had been deceived into believing they had to practice the laws of the Old Testament to receive salvation. Paul is adamant that God's grace cannot be earned, regardless of how many commandments we try to obey. Only our faith in Jesus provides the way to eternal life. "Man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ...for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified" (Galatians 2:16). This knowledge gives us freedom from the pressure of trying to be "good enough" for God. Each of this study's twelve lessons is clearly organized to include: Getting Started: An opening question to introduce you to the lesson. Setting the Stage: A short reflection to explain the context of the study. Exploring the Text: The Scripture reading for the lesson with related study questions. Of all the characters bequeathed to us by the Hebrew Bible, none is more compelling or complex than David. Divinely blessed, musically gifted, brave, and eloquent, David's famous slaying of Goliath also confirms that he is a redoubtable man of war. Yet, when his son Absalom rebels, David is dogged by the accusation than he will lose his kingdom because he is not merely a man of war, but a man of 'bloods' - guilty of shedding innocent blood. In this book, for the first time, this language of 'innocent blood' and 'bloodguilt' is traced throughout David's story in the books of Samuel and 1 Kings. The theme emerges initially in Saul's pursuit of David and resurfaces regularly as David rises and men like Nabal, Saul, Ishbosheth, and Abner fall. Innocent blood and bloodguilt also turn out to be central to David's reign. This is seen in a surprising way in David's killing of Uriah, but also in the subsequent deaths of his sons, Amnon and Absalom, his general, Amasa, and even in David's encounters with Shimei. The problem rears its head again when the innocent blood of the Gibeonites shed by Saul comes back to haunt David's kingdom. Finally, the problem reappears when Solomon succeeds David and orchestrates the executions of Joab and Shimei, and the exile of Abiathar. Attending carefully to the text and drawing extensively on previous biblical scholarship, David J. Shepherd suggests that innocent blood is not only a pre-eminent concern of David, and his story in Samuel and 1 Kings, but also shapes the entirety of David's history.
