Danny Herman was born in 1935 in Königsberg in East Prussia. As the Nazis were rounding up Jews, Danny’s father managed to escape to England in July 1939. He travelled to the Kitchener Camp in Kent, which helped refugees secure visas for safer places. Danny and his mother arrived in England just three days before war was declared in 1939, and his father was later sent to an internment camp on the Isle of Man. Danny went on to become a successful runner, competing in many international athletics events and volunteering in many roles, including at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Danny’s detailed memories of arriving in England, initially at the seaside in Kent and then moving to Manchester, create a vivid picture of life-changing events as experienced by a young child. Danny’s book is part of the My Voice book collection, a stand-alone project of The Fed, the leading Jewish social care charity in Manchester, dedicated to preserving the life stories of Holocaust survivors and refugees from Nazi persecution who settled in the UK. The oral history, which is recorded and transcribed, captures their entire lives from before, during and after the war years. The books are written in the words of the survivor so that future generations can always hear their voice. The My Voice book collection is a valuable resource for Holocaust awareness and education.
At last! The award-winning Baker & Kelly bring you the most entertaining, radical and unreliable football book ever published. The Two Dannys argue the toss, spill the beans and chew that fat about everything and anything from the biggest questions down to stuff they have frankly invented themselves. Which club has the handsomest fans? Who is the greatest player of all time? Pele? Maradona? Puskas? Rougvie? Have foreign players helped or hindered the English game? Well, Marco Boogers, well? And who was the greatest football dad, Fred Baker or Andy Kelly? Now with even more footballing facts, myths and legends, the paperback asks (and answers) hard-hitting questions, such as, what was the greatest ever World Cup? Just how much pathetic World Cup tat can one own, Danny Kelly? And where do all those beautiful women in the crowd come from? A cornucopia of footballing fun and well-crafted wisdom that is certain to sell like beer-flavoured crisps. Baker & Kelly: Sometimes right sometimes wrong - but always certain.
True-crime expert Danny Collins examines 23 crimes from the last 40 years that have been so shocking that their impact is still felt today With 24-hour news channels and easy internet access, society as a whole is constantly bombarded with reports of crime from every corner of the globe. It seems that no sooner has one tragedy hit than stories of another are being flashed across computer screens and printed in newspapers worldwide. There are some crimes in every generation, however, that will never be forgotten. Just as people remember where they were when they heard that President Kennedy had been shot, unforgettable tragedies of today--such as the attacks of 9/11 and the revulsion felt when the sickening details of the Fritzl case came to light--are indelibly imprinted on the global consciousness. Examining the horrific nature of some of these crimes, this exploration remembers how James Bulger, Sally Anne Bowman, Holly Wells, and Jessica Chapman, among others, have forever impacted society.
ìA fantastic and monumental contribution to our field.î ñ Ralph M. Reitan, PhD "The field of neuropsychology has many specialized books on particular diseases, but there is always a need for a general text to cover the major aspects of neuropsychology from neuroanatomy to assessment to practice issues. This is one such book that attempts to provide comprehensive coverage of the field." --Doody's In the last decade, the number of books, courses, training opportunities, and journals dealing with clinical neuropsychology has greatly increased. Demand for a complete reference in the field is growing as practitioners in private practice, the court system, and the medical field continue to make discoveries and advance our knowledge of the brain system and how it affects our everyday lives. In order to address this urgent need, Drs. Horton and Wedding have edited this Third Edition of the classic Neuropsychology Handbook. In its pages are reviews of all the major areas in which clinical neuropsychologists work: the foundations of clinical neuropsychology brain structure and function neurological disorders psychiatric disorders diagnostic decision-making symptom validity testing neuroimaging behavioral change following traumatic brain injury disability determination rehabilitation planning, and more Very specialized areas of practice such as clinical neuropsychology with children, clinical neurotoxicology, and neuropsychological assessment in criminal law cases also receive chapters.
GENETIC THEORY AND ANALYSIS Understand and apply what drives change of characteristic genetic traits and heredity Genetics is the study of how traits are passed from parents to their offspring and how the variation in those traits affects the development and health of the organism. Investigating how these traits affect the organism involves a diverse set of approaches and tools, including genetic screens, DNA and RNA sequencing, mapping, and methods to understand the structure and function of proteins. Thus, there is a need for a textbook that provides a broad overview of these methods. Genetic Theory and Analysis meets this need by describing key approaches and methods in genetic analysis through a historical lens. Focusing on the five basic principles underlying the field—mutation, complementation, recombination, segregation, and regulation—it identifies the full suite of tests and methodologies available to the geneticist in an age of flourishing genetic and genomic research. This second edition of the text has been updated to reflect recent advances and increase accessibility to advanced undergraduate students. Genetic Theory and Analysis, 2nd edition readers will also find: Detailed treatment of subjects including mutagenesis, meiosis, complementation, suppression, and more Updated discussion of epistasis, mosaic analysis, RNAi, genome sequencing, and more Appendices discussing model organisms, genetic fine-structure analysis, and tetrad analysis Genetic Theory and Analysis is ideal for both graduate students and advanced undergraduates undertaking courses in genetics, genetic engineering, and computational biology.
