This book, written by the author of The Activity and Reminiscence Yearbook, is all about exploring our very close relationship with food and its preparation. Because food plays such an important and pleasurable part in our lives it triggers many memories. Linking the activities and reminiscence ideas here with recipes will further enhance the recollection and allow us to re-experience the tastes of the past. Each chapter includes 'old' recipes for foods and drinks throughout the year and across the decades, and around these have been woven activities, quizzes and reminiscence material including changes over the years with respect to the food itself, kitchens, cooking, utensils, cookers, food styles, food fads in different decades, TV cooks, school meals, 'making do', snacks and so on. There are multiple recipes for each week of the year paired to a reminiscence theme and an activity, presented in a weekly format that activity organisers prefer. Many of the ideas and activities can be undertaken either on a one-to-one basis or as part of a group activity schedule. Group experiences tend to enhance the pleasure and allow for more discussion and sharing of memories, as well as acting as a social get-together. You can use it as a weekly schedule or just dip in and out of it at will. The book includes: weekly recipes; reminiscence principles; and activities and information for weeks 1 to 52. It is a must-have book which shows how food can be used successfully as a vehicle for social inclusion and normalisation in institutional settings.

What drives anti-immigrant bias—and how it can be mitigated In the aftermath of the refugee crisis caused by conflicts in the Middle East and an increase in migration to Europe, European nations have witnessed a surge in discrimination targeted at immigrant minorities. To quell these conflicts, some governments have resorted to the adoption of coercive assimilation policies aimed at erasing differences between natives and immigrants. Are these policies the best method for reducing hostilities? Native Bias challenges the premise of such regulations by making the case for a civic integration model, based on shared social ideas defining the concept and practice of citizenship. Drawing from original surveys, survey experiments, and novel field experiments, Donghyun Danny Choi, Mathias Poertner, and Nicholas Sambanis show that although prejudice against immigrants is often driven by differences in traits such as appearance and religious practice, the suppression of such differences does not constitute the only path to integration. Instead, the authors demonstrate that similarities in ideas and value systems can serve as the foundation for a common identity, based on a shared concept of citizenship, overcoming the perceived social distance between natives and immigrants. Addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time, Native Bias offers an original framework for understanding anti-immigrant discrimination and the processes through which it can be overcome.

The Ku Klux Klan has received much attention for its violent activities, but comparatively little research has been done on its musical legacy. The printed music that still exists is spread throughout the nation in both public and private collections. This work presents, chronologically, the music associated with the Klan from 1867 to 2002, thus enabling readers to sense the arguments and attitudes of the Klan as they developed and changed over time. Because of the relative scarcity of Klan-related music, non-Klan music that mentions the word "Klan" is included. These obscure references help place the Klan in a larger social perspective and are very important in documenting anti-Klan musical reaction. In instances where a song merely mentions the Klan, usually in only one verse or in the chorus, then only that verse containing the Klan reference, plus appropriate context, is included. The catalogue also includes Klan-related music that does not have lyrics, such as marches, waltzes, two-steps, and several Klan-related pieces that were published in Europe. Sheet music was virtually nonexistent after the 1930s, so in order to capture a feeling of Klan-related music today, a limited discography of Klan-related recordings from 1920 to 2002 is also included.

A Collection of Thoughts and Too Much Time is simply that: a collection of thoughts and too much time! I would like to be clever, but I am not. I would like to be talented, but I am not. I would like to be wealthy, but it will never happen. I just simply exist in much the same way as everyone else and I see and experience what others do. Yet life is simply a series of snapshots, with each snap a particular event. I have tried to capture some of these events, not using a camera or mobile phone, but rather, to express my feelings and thoughts about them. Clearly, I have also had far too much time on my hands! I dedicate this collection to my family, because they are long suffering. I particularly dedicate this work to my grandchildren, as some of this is about them and some of this is a reaction to the world I see them growing up in. The best constitution in the United States today." That is how William Jennings Bryan described the proposed constitution for Oklahoma in 1907. Bryan was clearly engaging in hyperbole, but he was signifying that the drafters of Oklahoma's constitution were guided in the main by many of the concerns which were highlighted during what historians came to dub the Progressive Era.Although the Progressive mentality did not win every victory (Oklahoma's constitution did not then and does not now include a provision for the recall), Progressives were, in general, pleased with the document. In particular, they praised the provision for the initiative and the referendum. Perhaps they did not anticipate that the initiative provision would, by the end of the 1900s, be used over 140 times to amend the very document they had drafted.One reason for the numerous amendments is the fact that so many details were included in the original document (about 50,000 words in length when finished in 1907). Many of these details would quickly become outdated or obsolete, and thus in need of amending. This attention to detail was not just a product of numerous interests seeking to have their favorite provision included in the constitution, but a fear of the drafters that they would not be able to trust the state legislature created by the new constitution to take the interests of the mass of Oklahoma citizens into account when enacting laws. An enduring characteristic of Oklahoma's constitution, however, has been its faith in direct democracy. In 2018 alone, Oklahomans had the opportunity to vote on six provisions to modify state laws or the state's constitution. These included issues that ranged from a state law legalizing medical marijuana (which passed) to amending the state's constitution to allow optometrists to operate in Wal-Mart stores (which did not pass).This volume traces the historical formation and constitutional development of the state. This development, given the frequency with which Oklahomans deem it necessary to change, is literally an ongoing process"--
