Despite being written mainly in the third person, this book enables the perceptive reader to study a dramatic part of South Africas history through the experiences of the main protagonist. Because of his legal background, Daniel is able to see how an initially fair legal system is corrupted in order to serve the increasingly desperate needs of the White minority. This is a mere backdrop, however, to a love story that grows closer to tragedy as time passes because the heroine is an alcoholic. The arrival of the computer alters the career of the hero dramatically and sends him on some overseas adventures to learn more about the legal implications of the new machine. As a leader of a missionary team to Malawi, Daniel also gets to grips with people with a totally different background and a differing worldview. The book is sensitive to background and atmosphere, and the hero encapsulates some of this in a few poems that form part of the main text. Jealousy, that green-eyed monster, also rears its head occasionally and further complicates relationships.

Failing at these endeavors he opens his own Detective agency. He doesn't do well. After seven years being a ( rent-a-cop) and extra security at the casinos, he gets a chance to do a job for a casino owner. The book is not a "who done it," or a mystery novel, its one year in the life of an out of control bastard. He does some things he hates himself for, and some things he's proud of. He falls in love, makes a lot of money, and fights with his feelings every day. The reader will love him or hate him, but he's never boring or uninteresting.

This book considers how the social construction of crime and the criminalising of political expression impact upon different stages in a violent political conflict. The freedom to express our political opinions is regarded as an essential human right throughout most of the world, and yet, in defence of our security, governments often place various restrictions on it. This book directly considers what these restrictions are in the context of deeply divided societies to understand how they impact upon intergroup relations in four different contexts: nonviolent movements, counter-insurgency, peace negotiations, and post-settlement peacebuilding. Drawing on an extensive body of original interviews and archival material, the volume analyses this relationship through an in-depth consideration of Northern Ireland and South Africa, followed by a wider analysis of Turkey, Sri Lanka, Belgium, and Canada. The overarching argument is that the implications of criminalising political expression depend on both its ‘target’ and the wider social reality it contributes towards. This book will be of much interest to students of conflict resolution, transitional justice, law, and International Relations.

Gleb Yakunin, the first Orthodox priest to adopt an ecumenical approach to Russian Orthodoxy, earning him the enmity of conservative groups within the Church and gratitude from other religious denominations. Father Yakunin believed the survival of the Church depended on its willingness to reform. When he was suspended, Yakunin continued to fight the system, working to expose the persecution of religious believers in the Soviet Union. After years of exile, Yakunin entered politics. He was criticized by religious authorities, denounced by nationalist politicians, and excommunicated by the Russian Orthodox Church. As Wallace L.
