This study argues that Theodotion's Greek text of Daniel reflects a systematic revision of the Old Greek according to a Semitic source which often preserved original readings against the combined evidence of both the Masoretic Text and the Qumran scrolls.
Intelligent Vehicular Network and Communications: Fundamentals, Architectures and Solutions begins with discussions on how the transportation system has transformed into today's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It explores the design goals, challenges, and frameworks for modeling an ITS network, discussing vehicular network model technologies, mobility management architectures, and routing mechanisms and protocols. It looks at the Internet of Vehicles, the vehicular cloud, and vehicular network security and privacy issues. The book investigates cooperative vehicular systems, a promising solution for addressing current and future traffic safety needs, also exploring cooperative cognitive intelligence, with special attention to spectral efficiency, spectral scarcity, and high mobility. In addition, users will find a thorough examination of experimental work in such areas as Controller Area Network protocol and working function of On Board Unit, as well as working principles of roadside unit and other infrastructural nodes. Finally, the book examines big data in vehicular networks, exploring various business models, application scenarios, and real-time analytics, concluding with a look at autonomous vehicles. - Proposes cooperative, cognitive, intelligent vehicular networks - Examines how intelligent transportation systems make more efficient transportation in urban environments - Outlines next generation vehicular networks technology
Clear, easy principles to spot what's nonsense and what's reliable Each year, teachers, administrators, and parents face a barrage of new education software, games, workbooks, and professional development programs purporting to be "based on the latest research." While some of these products are rooted in solid science, the research behind many others is grossly exaggerated. This new book, written by a top thought leader, helps everyday teachers, administrators, and family members—who don't have years of statistics courses under their belts—separate the wheat from the chaff and determine which new educational approaches are scientifically supported and worth adopting. Author's first book, Why Don't Students Like School?, catapulted him to superstar status in the field of education Willingham's work has been hailed as "brilliant analysis" by The Wall Street Journal and "a triumph" by The Washington Post Author blogs for The Washington Post and Brittanica.com, and writes a column for American Educator In this insightful book, thought leader and bestselling author Dan Willingham offers an easy, reliable way to discern which programs are scientifically supported and which are the equivalent of "educational snake oil.
The 1992 Parallel Architectures and Languages Europe conference continues the tradition - of a wide and representative international meeting of specialists from academia and industry in theory, design, and application of parallel computer systems - set by the previous PARLE conferences held in Eindhoven in 1987, 1989, and 1991. This volume contains the 52 regular and 25 poster papers that were selected from 187 submitted papers for presentation and publication. In addition, five invited lectures areincluded. The regular papers are organized into sections on: implementation of parallel programs, graph theory, architecture, optimal algorithms, graph theory and performance, parallel software components, data base optimization and modeling, data parallelism, formal methods, systolic approach, functional programming, fine grain parallelism, Prolog, data flow systems, network efficiency, parallel algorithms, cache systems, implementation of parallel languages, parallel scheduling in data base systems, semantic models, parallel data base machines, and language semantics.
This brief introduces wireless communications ideas and techniques into the study of networked control systems. It focuses on state estimation problems in which sensor measurements (or related quantities) are transmitted over wireless links to a central observer. Wireless communications techniques are used for energy resource management in order to improve the performance of the estimator when transmission occurs over packet dropping links, taking energy use into account explicitly in Kalman filtering and control. The brief allows a reduction in the conservatism of control designs by taking advantage of the assumed. The brief shows how energy-harvesting-based rechargeable batteries or storage devices can offer significant advantages in the deployment of large-scale wireless sensor and actuator networks by avoiding the cost-prohibitive task of battery replacement and allowing self-sustaining sensor to be operation. In contrast with research on energy harvesting largely focused on resource allocation for wireless communication systems design, this brief optimizes estimation objectives such as minimizing the expected estimation error covariance. The resulting power control problems are often stochastic control problems which take into account both system and channel dynamics. The authors show how to pose and solve such design problems using dynamic programming techniques. Researchers and graduate students studying networked control systems will find this brief a helpful source of new ideas and research approaches.
This comprehensive textbook presents a clean and coherent account of most fundamental tools and techniques in Parameterized Algorithms and is a self-contained guide to the area. The book covers many of the recent developments of the field, including application of important separators, branching based on linear programming, Cut & Count to obtain faster algorithms on tree decompositions, algorithms based on representative families of matroids, and use of the Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis. A number of older results are revisited and explained in a modern and didactic way. The book provides a toolbox of algorithmic techniques. Part I is an overview of basic techniques, each chapter discussing a certain algorithmic paradigm. The material covered in this part can be used for an introductory course on fixed-parameter tractability. Part II discusses more advanced and specialized algorithmic ideas, bringing the reader to the cutting edge of current research. Part III presents complexity results and lower bounds, giving negative evidence by way of W[1]-hardness, the Exponential Time Hypothesis, and kernelization lower bounds. All the results and concepts are introduced at a level accessible to graduate students and advanced undergraduate students. Every chapter is accompanied by exercises, many with hints, while the bibliographic notes point to original publications and related work.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference, Latin American Theoretical Informatics, LATIN 2000, held in Punta del Est, Uruguay, in April 2000. The 42 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 87 submissions from 26 countries. Also included are abstracts or full papers of several invited talks. The papers are organized in topical sections on random structures and algorithms, complexity, computational number theory and cryptography, algebraic algorithms, computability, automata and formal languages, and logic and programming theory.
This book will be useful for all physicians involved in cardiac imaging, whether they are in radiology, nuclear medicine, or cardiology, and should be mandatory for physicians engaged in gated cardiac SPECT. It is recommended without reservation." – from a review of the first edition in Radiology With gated cardiac SPECT now firmly established for the management of the cardiac patient, Drs. Germano and Berman bring you completely up to date with the multiple clinical applications as well as the recent technical developments of the modality. Clinical Gated Cardiac SPECT, Second Edition: covers all the available protocols describes a systematic approach for interpretation and reporting provides guidance for the recognition of artifacts includes flowcharts on the management of patients The relationship of gated cardiac SPECT to PET, MRI and CT is explored in separate chapters devoted to each modality. This book is essential reading for all clinicians involved in cardiac imaging.
