In my early twenties I read a book that started me in a completely different direction. Up to that time I had been taught to be agnostic and believed the Bible to be the result of ignorant men trying to explain what they did not understand with superstition, fables, exaggerated history, etc. The book is There is a River by Thomas Sugrue. A few years ago I started writing down my conclusions in order to clarify to myself just what I did believe. I could not accept the idea that I could be right when everyone I talked to disagreed with me. And yet my conclusions do seem to me to agree with Scripture, including my belief in reincarnation, which I believe is not only a fact revealed in the Bible but is a necessary part of Gods plan of salvation. A motivating factor in my desire to share my understanding of truth is my belief that all of the problems in the world can be traced to erroneous beliefs. If everyone correctly understood and applied truth, I believe our problems would vanish. God says we become what we think (Pr. 23:7). My belief that the Bible teaches that reincarnation is a fact hasnt endeared me to those who not only reject such an idea but also sincerely believe such a belief comes from the pit of hell and smells of smoke. After reading Reincarnation in the Bible? perhaps you can show me where I am in error, if you disagree with me. Or who knows, perhaps you will agree with me. At any rate I hope you find my book interesting and enjoyable, if not enlightening.

The Worst Leaven in the Feast of Unleavened Bread walks through seven of these Feasts in the Bible. The economics of voting is about whether and to what extent self-interest may be relied upon in voting. The central proposition in economics is that the world’s work gets done satisfactorily when each person does what they think is best for themselves. The commonsense view of the matter is that this outcome alone would be chaos. This book examines voting in four key terms: self-interest, bargaining, duty and rights. Self-interest creates a voting equilibrium on various issues, notably the redistribution of income. Bargaining has a larger role to play in voting than in commerce, as it becomes essential in the formation of platforms of political parties and for the passage of laws. A duty to vote arises from the fact that a person’s vote has only an infinitesimal chance of influencing the outcome of an election. Rights are a democracy’s first line of defense against exploitation that, unless constrained, the majority rule voting enables voters to expropriate the corresponding minority, undermining democracy completely. Four key questions are asked in this book. When is there self-interest in majority rule voting comparable to the general interest in markets? To what extent does ‘government by majority rule voting’ depend upon bargaining as well as voting? Can willingness to vote be attributed to self-interest or is a sense of duty required? Does democracy require property rights? Through an examination of these terms, this book argues that they are indispensable requirements for the maintenance of government by majority rule voting. This book is essential for those who study political economy, economic theory and philosophy as well as political theory.
