AND BACKGROUND 1. 1 CAD, Specification and Simulation Computer Aided Design (CAD) is today a widely used expression referring to the study of ways in which computers can be used to expedite the design process. This can include the design of physical systems, architectural environments, manufacturing processes, and many other areas. This book concentrates on one area of CAD: the design of computer systems. Within this area, it focusses on just two aspects of computer design, the specification and the simulation of digital systems. VLSI design requires support in many other CAD areas, induding automatic layout. IC fabrication analysis, test generation, and others. The problem of specification is unique, however, in that it i!> often the first one encountered in large chip designs, and one that is unlikely ever to be completely automated. This is true because until a design's objectives are specified in a machine-readable form, there is no way for other CAD tools to verify that the target system meets them. And unless the specifications can be simulated, it is unlikely that designers will have confidence in them, since specifications are potentially erroneous themselves. (In this context the term target system refers to the hardware and/or software that will ultimately be fabricated. ) On the other hand, since the functionality of a VLSI chip is ultimately determined by its layout geometry, one might question the need for CAD tools that work with areas other than layout.
Ad hoc and ubiquitous computing technologies have received extensive attention in both the academia and industry with the explosive growth of wireless communication devices. Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is devoted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documenta tion of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, compared to which our system of accumu lating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 32 contains literature published in 1982 and received before February 11, 1983; some older literature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included. We acknowledge with thanks contributions to this volume by Dr. J. Bou~a, Prague, who surveyed journals and publications in Czech and supplied us with abstracts in English.

1.1 Introduction VIA group elements in the periodic table are known as chalcogens. Chalcogens are sometimes known as oxygen family. Oxygen (O), Sulphur (S), Selenium (Se) and Tellurium (Te) are the elements of chalcogens. The chalcogen term was first introduced by Wilhelm Bilts group around 1930 at the University of Honover, where it was proposed by a Scientist Werner Fischer [1]. Chalcogen is a Greek word which means ‘ore forming’. Chalcogen elements react with almost all elements in the periodic table to form stable compounds, which occurs in the earth crust and these are the ores of particular elements. So they are named as ‘ore formers’. Oxide, sulphite, selenide and telluride are insoluble in water. A Chalcogenide is the chemical compound consisting of at least one chalcogen ion and at least one more electropositive element. Chalcogenide term is more commonly reserved for sulfides, selenides, tellurides and not for oxides,

It is due to the ever lasting increase of the bulk of material that the information content of our regular volumes is growing seriously. Therefore, the need for detailed index informations allowing the performance of retrospective literature searches be comes more and more important. Volume 23/24-the second General Index of Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts - contains author and subject indexes to volumes II -14 and, respectively, 17-22. Thus, the astronomical and astrophysical literature of the whole five-year period 197 4 -1978 is cov ered by this volume. Annotation. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. Prof. CNR Rao is a living legend. Einstein paid a compliment to Mahatma Gandhi on his 70th birthday. He said, “Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth”. On Prof. Rao’s birthday, I would repeat these words. Prof. Rao is not an individual, he is an institution, he is a phenomenon. I feel lucky that our generations could see him, touch him, feel him, experience him, learn from him and get inspired by him. I have watched Prof. Rao as a scientist, as a science leader, as a science institution builder and indeed as a leader of leaders of science. I have also watched him as a wonderful, warm-hearted human being with abundant empathy. I have seen his childlike enthusiasm. I have watched him as `courage personified’. What follows is more anecdotal but solely based on my personal viewpoint. Professor Rao has had a tremendous influence on my life. He has been my guru, guide, friend and philosopher. I met him for the first time when he was the Chairman of the Research Advisory Council of the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) in the nineteen eighties. I was then in my late thirties. Professor Rao has an uncanny ability to spot talent among the young. He was the President of the Indian Science Congress in the year 1988, which was held in Pune University. Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister and he inaugurated the Science Congress. Later on, during the lunch that followed, Prof. Rao made a special point to introduce me to Rajiv Gandhi. I still remember his words. He said, `Mr. Prime Minister, meet a rising young star of Indian science’. Little did I then know that within the next couple of months, he would make me a member of the Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, which he was chairing. At 42, I was the youngest member and I remember people calling me the `baby’ of the team. Getting that huge exposure at such a young age was something very special for me – I got a helicopter view of India at large. It helped me enormously as I moved on in life. Dr. P.K. Agrawal is firstclass first in law and a gold medalist from University of Allahabad in 1973. He started his career as a lecturer in law. He did LL.M. from Calcutta University when he was the District Magistrate in IAS cadre of West Bengal in 1987. He was awarded D.Phil in Law from Allahabad University in 1992 for review of land laws of Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Agrawal worked as Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Govt. of India from 1997 to 2002, where he tried to implement judicial reforms. He was also a member of threemen drafting committee of the I.T. Act. Dr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal is a prolific writer of Hindi and English and has sixty books to his credit. He worked as an Advocate and partner after retirement with Khaitan & Company, a leading law firm. At present, Dr. Agrawal is the Managing Partner, VAS GLOBAL, a New Delhi based law firm.
Spatial and temporal properties are key aspects of many data analysis problems in business, government, and science. GPS technology is quickly enabling a number of new applications, including tracking fleets of vehicles, navigating boats and ships, pedestrian's tracking and tracking of wildlife. Another popular application of this technology is in cellular phones with embedded GPS sensors for vehicle and pedestrian's tracking. Through the availability of cheap sensor devices, we have witnessed an exponential growth of geo-tagged data in the last few years resulting in the availability of fine-grained spatial data at small temporal sampling intervals. Therefore, the actual challenge in spatio-temporal analysis is moving from acquiring the right data towards large-scale analysis of the available data. As this multidimensional data add more complexities in storing, indexing and querying, efficient methodologies have to be derived to manage these data using existing data base technology.
