Peirce, which it sees as a conceptual tool and method for a better understanding of some of the basic issues in Christology.
This timely and fascinating work addresses questions of ultimate concerns for Christian believers by clarifying what religious believers’ statement “God creates” means in relation to the mechanistic determinism of science enthusiasts and the New Atheist Movement. Drawing from the methodological works of C.S. Peirce, Bernard Lonergan, and Wolfhart Pannenberg, the book creatively shows how the old science-theology conflict, or “warfare”, can be turned into one of collaboration or rapprochement. Using the works of these three thinkers, it departs from the common practice of treating the field of science-theology as an abstract mainstream theology. The book takes a stand on contextual theology, treating the problem posed by Richard Dawkins and his fellow New Atheists as one in need of a creative solution. It also suggests that the dialogue between science and theology must take seriously the experiences and challenges from different social and cultural contexts. The text shows how these experiences can lead to the kind of creative theological thinking we see in the works of Pannenberg and Lonergan, who both explicate, not only how an understanding of an evolutionary universe is compatible with the Christian doctrine of creation, but also how a methodological comparison of science and theology reveals a common concern for human understanding and openness to divine agency.

A Semiotic Approach to the Theology of Inculturation argues that though it is a difficult and delicate task, inculturation is still a requisite demand of a World Church and that without it the Church is unrecognisable and unsustainable. The book also suggests that the past failures of inculturation experiments in Africa can be overcome only by critically applying the science of semiotics, which can serve as an antidote to the nature of human knowing and reductionism that characterised earlier attempts to make Christianity African to the African. Drawing from the semiotic works of C.S. Peirce, Clifford Geertz, and Bernard Lonergan, Cyril Orji shows why semiotics is best suited to an African theology of inculturation and offers ten pinpointed precepts, identified as 'Habits', which underline the attentiveness, reasonableness, and responsibility required in a semiotic approach to a theology of inculturation. The 'Habits' are also akin to the imperatives inherent in the notion of catholicity - that catholicity is not identified with uniformity but with reconciled diversity, and also that catholicity demands different forms in different places, times, and cultural settings.
The story of Africa is a ghost story with two plots. One is foreign or imported and the other indigenous or local. The foreign plot has its origin in colonial history. The indigenous plot is African in origin. But both plots end in the same place: African trauma and culture complex. These narratives create in modern Africa a splintered consciousness and the political and economic conditions that lead to physical and psychological violence. Unmasking the African Ghost is both a theological exploration of the reasons the political and economic systems in African countries have failed and a proposal for the paths toward recovery, anchored in the belief that Africa is a continent continuously trying to redefine its identity in the face of Eurocentrism. For the church in Africa to be a church at the service of its people, theology in Africa must take misery and oppression as the context for its reflections and its reconstruction of the social order. An African solution to African problems must be able to meet the needs of the time. It must look to the African past to draw from its riches--particularly the African sociopolitical ethic of ubuntu. It must also look ahead and draw from the best available sociopolitical system of modern states: liberal democracy. A hybrid of these two yields ubuntucracy. Ubuntucracy removes the ghosts of both Africa and its Western colonizers and begins a new story that can help Africa survive its double bind.
