Have you ever been brokenhearted, depressed, or stressed out so much it causes anxiety and prevents you from living your utmost for His calling? Many people are experiencing these and other health problems in this fast-paced world we live in; even more so now because of the Covid 19 pandemic. But take heart because God our Father cares so much for you, and He has written you a special love letter to tell you so, called the Bible. Within the pages of the Bible, Word of God is inspiring Scripture which can lift you up out of the miry pit and set your feet on the solid rock of Jesus Christ! It is for this reason God inspired me to write the 365 daily devotionals so it can be your aid in keeping Him in the front and center of your life. The focus is on God telling you to be strong and of good courage. Each day is filled with insight and practical application, along with Scripture verses to inspire you as you have your daily devotional with Him. In addition, after each devotional, I encourage you to delve deep into God’s Word by reading the Further Bible Reading section found at the end of each daily devotional. It is my prayer you will seek God first in all you do because He has a plan for you and desires for you to hear it and live it. Therefore: “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

It was on a cold wintry day with the wind blowing hard when Roman, my horse, and I saw the animal stumbling toward us. Before me was a beaten elk king. I could only imagine what happened to this majestic creature... The crack of the two heads making contact was as loud as a gunshot as it rang through the nearby timber. Both animals stood facing each other with their heads low and antlers locked. A powerful blow slammed his right side, crushing a rib. He rose up on his back legs and slammed full force into the figure that had attacked him. Again, he rose up, readying for another head slam to his opponent. Then his back leg gave out from under him, causing him to lose balance and miss his target. A blow to his body pounded the injured rib, puncturing his lungs. Before he could recover, he was rammed again with such force that it knocked him down and over almost onto his back. Repeatedly he felt his body rammed by a rack of antlers with close to nine hundred pounds of red animal rage behind them. The downed animal began to lose consciousness as his anger turned to fear. Over the course of the year, I watched from a distance as this powerful animal slowly began to heal from the fierce battle and trust the world around him again, even finding love with a cow elk. Witnessing this great creature's transformation, I learned the true power and beauty of Mother Nature. Cynthia S. Reay lives in Mohave County in Arizona on a farm and ranch. The mountains of the Southwest hold her strongest passion. Now that her two children are grown and gone, Cynthia has laid down her rifle and picked up her camera, photographing the many hidden canyons and ranges hidden from common pathways of the great Southwest. He Remembers is her first novel.

In Place of Gods and Kings presents a new reading of an important manuscript that has long been considered the foremost colonial-era source for information related to the indigenous inhabitants of the Mexican state of Michoacán. Drawing on recent trends in literary studies that call into question the universal validity of notions such as the unitary author and the primacy of alphabetic writing over oral and pictorial traditions, Cynthia L. Stone shows how this early relación (c. 1538-41) weaves together narrative strands representing the distinctive voices of four primary contributors. According to the Franciscan compiler, Jerónimo de Alcalá, the manuscript is a testament to enlightened colonial officials who recognized that some familiarity with native customs and beliefs would further the goals of evangelization and Spanish rule. This symbolic bridge between prehispanic and colonial times was articulated differently by the friar’s indigenous collaborators, however, who refused to accept their alleged cultural inferiority or fully renounce their previous allegiances. Thus, the drawings of the indigenous painters, reproduced in this volume in both color and black and white, evoke the sacred Mesoamerican tradition of “writing in pictures.” The epic history narrated by the former high priest pays tribute to the great regional culture hero, Taríacuri. And the account of the Spanish conquest provided by the indigenous governor converts the military defeat of his people into a moral victory and a paradigm for cultural survival.
