This report addresses the concepts and controversy surrounding health technology assessment in Europe, with a particular focus on selected Member States including Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. It is intended to identify and address current considerations regarding HTA methodological and process issues related to the prioritization and financing of modern health care. In particular, it describes the processes and challenges for identifying and prioritizing assessments; assesses and compares current assessment methods and procedures; and highlights the barriers to effective implementation. The report also ascertains the roles and terms of engagement of key stakeholders, and captures the opportunities and challenges for the use of HTA guidance in general priority-setting, decision-making and health-care provision.

Corinna M. Lindow substantiates, develops, and tests a strategic fit perspective on family firm performance in order to contribute to explaining previous inconclusive findings. In particular, she aims at investigating whether strategic fit determines family firm performance and what role family influence plays. Based on a sample of German family firms, the author indicates that, against expectations, family firms’ performance is not driven by strategic fit but through the effective use of family-specific factors such as family business governance and family culture. Further, the results suggest that family influence has important implications for strategy, organizational structure, and the achievement of strategic fit.

Time is running out for the Palestinian hope for a two-state solution. Thus, the Palestinians desperately search for a way out of the stalemate in the conflict with Israel and thereby clutch at every straw. Statements made by Palestinian officials such as “Kosovo is not better than us. We deserve independence even before Kosovo, [...]”(Yasser Abed Rabbo) or “We are not Kosovo”(Saeb Erekat) were a prelude to a public and scientific debate about the applicability of the Kosovo Albanian strategy on their way towards statehood on the Palestinian case. The author took up the issue for a detailed academic analysis that puts into question whether the declaration of independence of Kosovo in 2008 really unveiled new options for Palestine. Thereby, the study illustrates the purpose and limits of analogy. Corinna Metz, born in 1986, lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Vienna in Political Sciences with specialization in international politics and a master’s degree in International Development. For several years, she conducts research in the field of peace and conflict studies with a focus on the Balkans and the Middle East where she conducted long-term research stays.
