Four months after the Indiana General Assembly established Clinton County, longtime resident John Pence donated 60 acres of centrally located farmland where the county seat would be built. Thanks to Pence's generosity, the city of Frankfort, named in honor of his ancestral German home, was born on May 9, 1830. Dense forests, poor roads, and harsh winters were among the many challenges facing Frankfort's earliest inhabitants. Yet, that tiny, close-knit community grew and blossomed into the beautiful "Gem City," abundant in commerce, schools, churches, and culture. The spirit of those early settlers still prevails. It is revealed in their sons and daughters, who include heroes, entrepreneurs, educators, political leaders, artists, entertainers, athletes, and more. The images in this book highlight much of the history of a proud Hoosier city and those who call it home.

The historical sweep of Cree and Christian considers the dynamics of Pentecostal conversion in relation to the strengths and weaknesses of other denominations and the underlying foundation of Cree cosmological worldviews. Pentecostalism has remained open to recognizing the power of spirits while also benefiting from its own essential flexibility. Pentecostals often seek to gain a degree of temporal and spiritual autonomy and authority that may not have seemed possible under previous Christian practices or Cree traditions. Cree and Christian is the first book to provide a fully historicized account of Indigenous Pentecostalism, connecting contemporary religious practices and pluralism to historical Pentecostal, Evangelical, Catholic, and mainstream Protestant missions since the nineteenth century. By tracing religious practices and discourses since the 1890s, Westman paints a picture of the transformations and encounters from the earliest conversions (and resistance) to today’s pluralistic, mediatized, and bilingual religious landscape.

In April 1979 a symposium on "Multiple Somatic Sensory Motor, Visual and Auditory Areas and Their Connectivities" was held at the FASEB meeting in Dallas, Texas. The papers presented at that symposium are the basis of most of the substantially augmented, updated chapters in the three volumes of Cortical Sensory Organi zation. Only the material in chapter 8 of volume 3 was not pre sented in one form or another at that meeting. The aim of the symposium was to review the present status of the field of cortical representation in the somatosensory, visual and auditory systems. Since the early 1940s, the number of recognized cortical areas related to each of these systems has been increasing until at present the number of visually related areas exceeds a dozen. Although the number is less for the somatic and auditory systems, these also are more numerous than they were earlier and are likely to increase still further since we may expect each system to have essentially the same number of areas related to it.

Microsporidia are obligate intracellular spore-forming organisms. Several species of microsporidia cause human disease, mainly in immunocompromised hosts. The spectrum of disease varies from diarrhea, keratoconjunctivitis to disseminated infection involving multiple organs. CNS disease is a rare manifestation usually seen in compromised hosts as part of a disseminated infection. Only 12 cases of CNS microsporidiosis have been reported in the literature. Clinically, they usually present with signs and symptoms of encephalitis and seizures. Diagnosis often requires brain biopsy, but spores can occasionally be found in other sites. Albendazole and fumagillin have been successfully used in treating microsporidiosis at other sites, but their role in CNS infection is unclear.
