Originally published in 1988. Inner city problems in advanced countries are being exacerbated by the decentralisation of economic activities and higher income groups. Only offices and tourism offer some prospects of growth, but these vary in their potential from one city to another. This book assesses changes in the structure of urban areas, concentrating on the process of decentralisation and the consequences for the inner city and city centre. It examines and evaluates policies and makes suggestions for the future management of the city.

First published in 1981, British Regional Development Since World War I presents a comprehensive and balanced introduction to the problems of regional development in Britain. Since World War I it has been possible to talk of Britain as two nations, a prosperous South including the Midlands, and a poor North. Christopher Law examines the nature and causes of this division, including impact of industrial structure, London’s role as capital in the spatial economy, and the influence of better environments on development. This valuable study will be an essential read for anyone interested in any aspect of regional development and development studies in the last ninety years.
Comprehensive introduction to composites from natural and recycled biomaterialsCovers fabrication, mechanical analysis and modeling of green compositesNew ideas for cost-effective alternative matrices, fibers and additivesApplications to construction, automotive, and civil engineering An important contribution to the evolution of composites technology, this book is a systematic investigation of how natural biomaterials are used to create cost-effective and environmentally sound composites for commercial use. The book shows how a wide range of plant- and animal-based materials are integrated into the design and fabrication of matrices and reinforcements for polymeric and other types of composites. In addition, a focus is placed on modeling and mechanical analyses of biobased composites, providing valuable data on their performance. Sustainable composites are shown to be viable alternatives for manufactured components in automotive, civil engineering and construction applications.

This title is no longer stocked by us. It is now available directly from Christopher Enright: cenrigh2@une.edu.au How should lawyers go about their tasks in working with law, in making, interpreting, using, reading and writing law? Enright's book describes clear and simple techniques for working with law. It explains why the technique is needed and what it achieves, and then provides a model for doing it. Each model consists of a step by step guide for performing the relevant task. Legal Technique is structured to be the textbook in an introductory law course where the techniques are described, and intended for re-use in later courses on substantive law where these techniques must be further taught and practised in the context of those subjects. Legal Technique is accompanied by a free Legal Technique eWorkbook (see Supplement) containing materials, questions and answers. Included are exercises for working with statutes, cases, legal texts and for solving legal problems; further exercises to practise approaches to common law and statutory law subjects generally; and specific exercises for the subjects 'Introduction to Law', 'Constitutional Law', and 'Property Law'.

Two parables that have become firmly lodged in popular consciousness and affection are the parable of the Good Samaritan and the parable of the Prodigal Son. These simple but subversive tales have had a significant impact historically on shaping the spiritual, aesthetic, moral, and legal traditions of Western civilization, and their capacity to inform debate on a wide range of moral and social issues remains as potent today as ever. Noting that both stories deal with episodes of serious interpersonal offending, and both recount restorative responses on the part of the leading characters, Compassionate Justice draws on the insights of restorative justice theory, legal philosophy, and social psychology to offer a fresh reading of these two great parables. It also provides a compelling analysis of how the priorities commended by the parables are pertinent to the criminal justice system today. The parables teach that the conscientious cultivation of compassion is essential to achieving true justice. Restorative justice strategies, this book argues, provide a promising and practical means of attaining to this goal of reconciling justice with compassion.
Although the 1980 United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) is one of the most successful international conventions to date, it remains the case that those involved in the international sale of goods must refer to a multitude of laws. Indeed the CISG itself does not cover all issues relating to international sales contracts, so it must necessarily be supplemented by domestic law. Global Sales and Contract Law provides a truly comparative analysis of domestic laws in over sixty countries so as to deliver a global view of domestic and international sales law. The book reports on the real practice of sales law, taking into account present day problems. Complex questions on the obligations under a sales contract, the ways in which these are established, as well as the remedies following the breach of obligations, are all discussed. By addressing regional uniform projects, like OHADA, and comparing differences in domestic legal approach where the CISG would not apply, the work goes beyond existing commentaries which tend to focus only on the CISG. The analysis has been based on an unprecedented survey drawn from the world's top fifty companies as well as international traders, lawyers advising international traders, arbitral institutions, arbitrators, and law schools. This work encompasses all aspects of a sale of goods transaction and takes a wide view of sale by including general contract law. The book gives practitioners invaluable insight into judicial trends and possible solutions in different legal systems, whether preparing for litigation or drafting an international contract. Global Sales and Contract Law is the most comprehensive and thorough compilation of legal analysis in the field of the sale of goods and is a reliable source for any practitioner dealing in international commerce.
First published in 1997, this volume constitutes a critical analysis of the contradictory portrayal of social workers. Christopher Hall sets the task of exploring how social workers make their work visible and justifiable through their talk and writing. He examines the language, explanation and analysis they use to explain their actions and assessments set within an atmosphere of criticism and controversy, given that they often seem unable to protect themselves due to uncertainty in their mandate and their often invisible trade. Hall’s study offers opportunities for key questions relating to social work, professionals and the handling of controversy, and to render social work documents more understandable through approaching them as narratives with readership.
The Economics of Hope embodies Christopher Freeman's positive views of the potential of mankind to use its resources constructively. Grounded in the thorough empirical research which is the hallmark of his writings, these essays steer the reader through the complex questions surrounding the issues of technical change, innovation and economic growth.
