How do we cooperate – in social, local, business, and state communities? This book proposes an Outcome-Based Cooperative Model, in which all stakeholders work together on the basis of trust and respect to achieve shared aims and outcomes. The Outcome-Based Cooperative Model is built up from an extensive analysis of behavioural and social psychology, genetic anthropology, research into behaviour and culture in societies, organisations, regulation, and enforcement. The starting point is acceptance that humanity is facing ever larger risks, which are now systemic and even existential. To overcome the challenges, humans need to cooperate more, rather than compete, alienate, or draw apart. Answering how we do that requires basing ourselves, our institutions, and systems on relationships that are built on trust. Trust is based on evidence that we can be trusted to behave well (ethically), built up over time. We should aim to agree common goals and outcomes, moderating those that conflict, produce evidence that we can be trusted, and examine our performance in achieving the right outcomes, rather than harmful ones. The implications are that we need to do more in rebasing our relationships in local groupings, business organisations, regulation, and dispute resolution. The book examines recent systems and developments in all these areas, and makes proposals of profound importance for reform. This is a new blueprint for liberty, solidarity, performance, and achievement.

Colposcopy has contributed significantly to knowledge about cervical cancer. Developed in Germany by Hans Hinselmann, it plays a significant role in the identification, early detection and treatment of cervical cancer. Dr Seidl is a pioneer of colposcopy and recognised early on the typical changes in the external and internal cervix over the course of a woman’s life and the colposcopic equivalents of the precursors of cervical carcinoma. As a gynaecologist (and pathologist), Dr Seidl has taken up the cause of early diagnosis of cervical carcinoma and its precursors. He is considered a protagonist of colposcopy in post-war Germany due to his experience in 60 years of work with many publications and further training at home and abroad (introduction of colposcopy in Africa). Dr. Seidl has made his extensive training material available to interested doctors in a special and unique form in the form of a colposcopy atlas: - For doctors who want to familiarise themselves with colposcopy for their practice. - For doctors who want to use the didactic teaching material, arranged according to the new nomenclature (Rio 2014), for their own further training. He has revised this book – now in its 4th edition with his co-author Dr Kossagk from AGCPC.de – in memory of his famous predecessors in German-speaking countries, such as Hinselmann, Ganse, Mestwerdt (Germany), Wespi (Switzerland) and Burghrdt (Austria) and in appreciation of this original German diagnostic method, and has added several innovations. For example, the photo and video material can now also be accessed online in streaming mode. The DVD originally used for this purpose has been abolished. In addition, new chapters have been included, with the chapters on peniscopy and mammilloscopy in particular falling outside the scope of a usual colposcopy book. The book is unique among colposcopy publications worldwide, as it covers the entire spectrum of gynaecological diagnostics with over 900 colour colposcopic illustrations and therapeutic video sequences. In addition to chapters on findings of the portio, vagina and vulva, new chapters such as functional colposcopy, mamilloscopy and peniscopy are presented in a thoroughly edited form. Of course, colposcopy is emphasised as playing an essential role in the early diagnosis of carcinoma and preliminary stages (dysplasias) in the genital area, with the difficult modern differential diagnosis facilitating the evaluation of findings. An important chapter is the colposcopic observation of the course of the disease, which often leads to a definitive diagnosis! In addition to these important tasks, there is – especially for doctors in practice – a broad diagnostic field in the context of the various inflammations (STD) and functional hormone-related changes in the genital area. A chapter on changes in the nipple highlights Paget’s disease and justifies the use of colposcopy. The new chapter on peniscopy is the first colposcopy book to discuss the role of men in sexually transmitted HPV infections and to propose modern early diagnosis (secondary prophylaxis). These statements are supported by years of experience in examinations of men and by convincing colposcopic images of carcinomas and its precursors.

When in 2000 the Baseball Writers Association of America elected the ever-durable Carlton Fisk to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, many fans quietly pointed to the Hall's omission of Fisk' greatest American League contemporary, Thurman Munson. And when in 2001 the writers honored Kirby Puckett, the Twins star forced to retire with glaucoma after a brilliant but brief 12-year career, the same fans began to raise their voices in support of Munson, another short-timer who was once the toast of his team's hometown. In a position that requires the strapping on of hot, awkward equipment and the torturous alternation of standing and squatting, most catchers struggle to maintain electrolytes, let alone a respectable batting average. It is, in fact, a position so demanding, that men deemed good ball-handlers or pitcher confidants might hang on in the big leagues for years despite their drag on a team's offensive production. Munson, like Fisk and National Leaguer Johnny Bench, was a tough-as-nails backstop, a Gold Glove winner, and the unquestioned leader of his team. Like Bench and Fisk, too, though to a lesser degree, Munson had home run power. But the Yankee captain was in, at least one respect, an even rarer breed of catcher--one who manages despite the physical and mental demands of his position to finish each year somewhere near the .300 mark. Munson, who ranked in the top 10 among A.L. hitters five of the nine full seasons he played, was widely considered one of his generation's great clutch hitters. When the star catcher died at age 32, he was still in his prime, and it seems clear to many that on August 2, 1979, misfortune denied Munson his place in Cooperstown. Outlived by his contemporaries, who went on to post more impressive career numbers, and now overshadowed by the accomplishments of catchers from the current batter-biased era, Munson's chances for recognition grow increasingly faint. But for all the praiseworthy things he did on the field in his short career, Thurman Munson accomplished as much in between the innings and games he labored through. And it might be his influence for which he's ultimately remembered. In this work, author Chris Devine pays special attention to Munson as teammate, friend, husband, and father.

The Rivers Ran Backward reveals the complex history of the western border states as they struggled with questions of nationalism, racial politics, secession, neutrality, loyalty, and even place-as the Civil War tore the nation, and themselves, apart. The fourth volume in this momentous series commences with the attacks on the Italian island fortress of Pantellaria, which led to its surrender and occupation achieved almost by air attack alone. The account continues with the ultimately successful, but at times very hard fought, invasions of Sicily and southern Italy as burgeoning Allied air power, now with full US involvement, increasingly dominated the skies overhead. The successive occupations of Sardinia and Corsica are also covered in detail. This is essentially the story of the tactical air forces up to the point when Rome was occupied, just at the same time as the Normandy landings were occurring in northwest France. With regards to the long-range tactical role of the Allied heavy bombers, only the period from May to October is examined, while they remained based in North Africa, with the narrative continuing in a future volume. This volume also delves into the story of “the soldiers’ air force.” Frequently overshadowed by more immediate newsworthy events elsewhere, the soldiers’ struggle was often of an equally Homeric nature. “No future publication on the Mediterranean air war will be credible without use of this series.” —Air Power History
