It is the aim of this research work is to investigate and to assess quatitatively as well as quantitatively the bearing behaviour of pile groups subjected to cyclic lateral loading. In this context, the influences of different boundary conditions, in particular the soil properties and the pile group geometry are to be analysed experimentally and numerically. Based on a brief literature review in chapter 2, model tests (centrifuge and small-scale at 1g) and numerical investigations have been carried out to contribute to a better understanding of the cyclic behaviour of pile groups. Chapter 3 describes the test procedure and summarises the results of centrifuge tests, which have been carried out at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems (COFS) in Perth, Australia. Further investigations have been carried out by means of smallscale model tests at 1g in the testing facilities at the University of Kassel, Germany, with the results as summarised in chapter 4. A comparison of individual results of both test series is provided in chapter 5. The numerical studies in chapter 6 have been carried out in order to analyse the general ability of numerical simulations to calculate the response of pile groups to cyclic lateral loading. Based on the previously derived results, chapter 7 provides equations that can be applied to estimate the cyclic accumulation of lateral displacements of pile groups as well as the cyclic changes of the load distribution within pile groups.

Volume I deals with forests and scrub vegetation and analyses the ecology of Central Europe’s tree flora, whilst Volume II is dedicated to the non-forest vegetation covering mires, grasslands, heaths, alpine habitats and urban vegetation. The consequences of over-use, pollution and recent climate change over the last century are explored and conservation issues addressed.
The purpose of this research project is to contribute to effective retail by determining the impacts of the elements of retail marketing interventions on sales performance in franchises and branches. The approach comprises a series of complementary surveys of franchisees, branch managers, shop visitors and customers. This is enriched with secondary data and sector-specific structural detail to determine the direct and mediating effects of retail marketing on sales performance. Through factor analysis results provide evidence that Retail Marketing has a high and positive, direct-structural impact on sales performance. Christoph Preuss contributes to the development of the dichotomy of branch and franchise management by exploring their operational differences. Retailers can exploit retail marketing more effectively if they understand that structural retail marketing parameters make the greatest impact on an outlet’s sales performance.

In this work of Christology, Christoph Cardinal Schonborn, a world-renowned theologian, takes as his starting point the Apostle Paul's statement, "But when the time had fully come, God sent for his Son, born of woman, born under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons" (Gal 4:4-5). Christoph Kimmich’s German Foreign Policy, 1918-1945: A Guide to Current Research and Resources is the most comprehensive guide to archival resources and published materials on the foreign policy of Weimar and Nazi Germany. It lists the archives, libraries, and research institutes, public and private, that hold important collections. While Kimmich’s survey emphasizes archives in Germany, it also covers archives in Europe and in the United States, describing their holdings, terms of access and use, and the guides and inventories available. German Foreign Policy, 1918-1945 also includes a substantial bibliography of published sources, from documentary series to significant contemporary accounts, from the memoir literature to secondary works, with annotations appearing for the more important and the more obscure. Die vorliegende Arbeit verwendet dazu die Eigenheiten des DCF77-Signals um eine hocheffiziente kombinierte Signalverarbeitung zu ermöglichen. Die Kombination von Zeitsynchronisations- und Navigationssignalen eliminiert den größten Nachteil klassischer Assisted-Empfängerarchitekturen, den massiven Einsatz von Rechenleistung in der digitalen Signalverarbeitung. Trotzdem bleiben die Vorteile der bekannten Architekturen, eine kurze Time-to-First-Fix bei geringem Stromverbrauch erhalten. This book examines the global regulation of biodiversity politics through the UN UNConvention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the WTO and other international treaties. Using historical-materialist state and regulation theory, it assesses how the discourse and politics of sustainable development have contributed to the internationalisation of the state. The authors argue that sustainable development, far from being a fixed concept, is a conceptual terrain on which different and conflicting symbolisations of and solutions responses to of the ecological crisis struggle for hegemony. Furthermore, it shows that the international multilateral environmental organisations agreements are not at all a means to counteract neoliberal globalisation but, on the contrary, form an integral part of the ongoing transformation process. Focussing on the UN Convention on Biological DiversityCBD, the FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and the Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) in the World Trade Organisation, this co-authored volume addresses the following issues: state theory, regulation theory and International Political Economy biodiversity protection and valorisation of genetic resources access to genetic resources and sharing of benefits which arise out of its use enforcement of intellectual property rights and their impact on biodiversity. This volume contains 15 papers written by Christoph Levin between 2001 and 2011, four of them unpublished. One main focus is on the Pentateuch, mainly on the oldest comprehensive narrative source, the Yahwist, which was written at the beginning of the Jewish diaspora. A second focus is on the books of Kings, on their chronological structure as well as on the final two chapters 2 Kgs 24-25. Christoph Levin also deals with the Israelite religion in the time of the monarchy, the origins of biblical Covenant theology, and the Old Testament attitude to poverty. All the papers are based on a detailed investigation of the literary growth of the biblical text. The author shows that the Old Testament as we know it originated from a process of continual re-reading during the Second Temple period.
One field where the implications of the omnipresent globalization and hereby initiated new forms of cross-border business activity are exceptionally profound is the income taxation of multinational enterprises. The contemporary worldwide norm, which was adopted in the 1930s, is the separate accounting method. Despite its longevity as the preferred means for the taxation of multinational enterprises, the erosion of tax revenues from alleged transfer price manipulations by firms has goaded public discussion on whether or not the separate accounting method is still a satisfactory solution to the problem of international income taxation. Particularly the European Commission's study "Company Taxation in the Internal Market" and its suggestion to replace separate accounting with unitary apportionment in the European Union has strongly accelerated the debate about the future of group taxation. In the present treatise, both abovementioned taxation concepts are elucidated as well as qualitatively and quantitatively reviewed against the background of the economic rationale for the multinational enterprise, the way it generates income and the management of its internal affairs. The highlight of this treatise is the general equilibrium model of firm behavior under unitary apportionment, which is, as will be seen, in several important respects more powerful than the usual partial equilibrium treatment of the formulary approach. The presented model, therefore, provides considerable insights regarding the tax incidence and induced real-economic distortions under unitary apportionment. Above all, this model will allow policy-makers and tax authorities to make reasonable estimates concerning potential alterations in tax revenues collected if separate accounting was replaced by unitary apportionment in the future.
Cardiac diseases and in particular coronary artery disease are the leading cause of death and morbidity in the industrialized countries. The development of reliable cardiac imaging techniques is considered a key issue in improving patient care. This book presents and discusses the technical concepts, the potential spectrum of applications and the future perspectives of multi-slice CT in cardiac imaging. The discussion is based on the experience of internationally leading clinical institutions.
