Confident Speaking provides language teachers and teacher educators with evidence-informed ideas to help second language (L2) learners speak fluently and confidently in different social and academic contexts. Christine C. M. Goh and Xuelin Liu, thought leaders in the field of language education, draw on scholarly literature and their own experience to show language teachers how to apply insights from research and theory in everyday classroom teaching. They offer 80 hands-on activities to help learners develop speaking skills through fluency practice and language-focused activities, and tap into their metacognitive thinking to adopt strategies for facilitating oral communication. Also included is guidance for teachers in designing lessons and larger units of work with the activities and carrying out professional inquiry activities into their own practice of teaching L2 speaking. This book is a valuable resource for language teachers and teacher educators, as well as researchers interested in the teaching and development of second language speaking.
When a Christian fundamentalist-turned-scoffer becomes the senior religion reporter for one of the nation's top newspapers, she and God find themselves on a collision course. As her journey begins, Christine Wicker knows God primarily as "the source you never get to interview." Despite this, she pursues Him anyway and begins to glimpse a God she hasn't dared hope might exist. She finds Him in unlikely places--the ceremony of a Wiccan coven, an East German shop window, a Northern Ireland breakfast table. To her grumpy amazement, she also finds Him in a place she swore she would never again look--the confines of a Southern Baptist church. It's a hard trip with surprising turns, but in the end Wicker finds a faith that answers the soul's call without ignoring the world's realities.
This book is not a prescription for spiritual success. I have only tried to describe what Jesus has done for me using Scripture to illuminate my journey. Through this, God's Word has become very meaningful and beautiful to me. I now understand that it is only His Word that can truly change us. My story is an attempt to share how He changed me through His Word. Telling my story is intended to give hope to those who feel having God work in their lives requires something they don't have. Chris Hansen was born in a small farming town in Central California and attended Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. Except for a life changing interlude living in Venezuela, she has lived in the West all her life, finally settling in Arizona. Although attracted to travel and the exotic, her main desire and satisfaction in life has been to be a wife and mother. Here's what readers are saying about "Confessions of a Christian Woman" "The fortitude and inner thoughts you have expressed are so deeply put. If others can read the book and experience the same faith you have showed, it's a keeper." M. M. " Raw transparency that will be an encouragement to many who feel hopeless." J. D. " A great intimacy well written. Kudos! " L.Q. "Just finished reading chapter two. I love it!" J.S. "A towering achievement. I looked forward to reading each chapter." M.H. "I'm so enjoying, I see myself also as I read her story..." V. M. Daughter of the King is a nine-week Bible study that is ideally for group settings but can be used for individual use as well. I chose Daughter of the King as the title because I love that true Biblical identity given to me and to all Christian women. How incredible to know, despite my imperfections, the God of the universe calls me daughter! I believe as we focus on the truth of scripture, realize and embrace "who" and more importantly "Whose" we are, we can live with peace, joy, strength, and a Christ confidence. Then, we can better live and serve as our King intended.
