Frank Tannenbaum Outstanding Book Award from the American Society of Criminology Faculty Senate Award for Research from Loyola University New Orleans Out of the Red is one man’s pathbreaking story of how social forces and personal choices combined to deliver an unfortunate fate. After a childhood of poverty, institutional discrimination, violence, and being thrown away by the public education system, Bolden's life took him through the treacherous landscape of street gangs at the age of fourteen. The Bloods offered a sense of family, protection, excitement, and power. Incarcerated during the Texas prison boom, the teenage former gangster was thrust into a fight for survival as he navigated the perils of adult prison. As mass incarceration and prison gangs swallowed up youth like him, survival meant finding hope in a hopeless situation and carving a path to his own rehabilitation. Despite all odds, he forged a new path through education, ultimately achieving the seemingly impossible for a formerly incarcerated ex-gangbanger.
What happens to us does not have to define us. In The Red Geranium Sisterhood, women will find the inspiration to believe in and embrace their inherent worth by discovering and embracing the Creator’s radical love. Author Shelley M. Christian encourages women to discover their unique design and quit comparing themselves to others. Through her personal story, real-life accounts of others and the lens of Jesus’ esteem for women, Shelley gives readers the tools to rise above the injustices they have suffered and overcome bitterness, self-hatred and despair. Sharing her personal struggle with low self-worth, emotional hurdles and being bullied as a teen, Shelley uses techniques inspired from God’s Word to stop believing the lies, break free from negative influences and thrive. When women believe their own worth and celebrate the colors within each other, they will shake off the shame, reclaim their true identity and step up to the plate with courage. The goal of The Red Geranium Sisterhood is to inspire women to fully love and esteem themselves and then extend that same kindness to others until their surrounding culture is transformed into a sisterhood of friends. Instead of I and me, Shelley hopes we become a culture of us and we.
This volume of the Golden Age of Illustration Series contains Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Red Shoes’. This classic fairy tale has been continuously in print in different editions since its first publication, with many, many, different artists illustrating the story over the years. This edition features a beautiful collection of the best of that art, taken from the likes of Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Harry Clarke, Honor Appleton, Jennie Harbour, among others. This series of books celebrates the Golden Age of Illustration. During this period, the popularity, abundance and – most importantly – the unprecedented upsurge in the quality of illustrated works marked an astounding change in the way that publishers, artists and the general public came to view this hitherto insufficiently esteemed art form. The Golden Age of Illustration Series, has sourced the rare original editions of these books and reproduced the beautiful art work in order to build a unique collection of illustrated fairy tales. ‘The Red Shoes’ was first published in April of 1845, as part of Andersen’s New Fairy Tales: First Volume, Third Collection. Andersen explained the source of the story as being an incident he had witnessed as a small child. His father, he stated, had been sent a piece of red silk by a rich lady, who wanted the material converted into a pair of dancing slippers. Andersen’s father produced the slippers, but the rich woman was horrified at the result, and in reaction to her harsh criticism, he cut the shoes up in front of her.

Seminar paper from the year 2024 in the subject Environmental Sciences - Sustainability, grade: 1,5, University of London, course: Global food systems and health, language: English, abstract: We as mankind face a complex challenge: feeding a growing global population, while preserving the environment for future generations and limitng global warming. The global food system causes approx. 26% of global Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, with livestock-associated farming and land use as key drivers. At the same time, almost 10% of the global population are currently exposed to hunger and one third to moderate or severe food insecurity. Scholars project a continued global demand growth for livestock-derived food for decades to come. This is partially driven by an ongoing population growth but also by dietary changes, stemming from a rising prosperity and cultural shifts. In light of the significant GHG footprint of livestock, this calls for new policy approaches. Starting from the main environmental and social impacts of red meat production and consumption, this text will explore to what extent carbon pricing can be a suitable element for effective climate change mitigation by taking a closer look at the planned Danish carbon tax on livestock.
...a tale told deftly by the brilliant French minimalist Christian Gailly. It is a story at once spare and mysteriously complex, complicated by the ever odder perspective of the narrator as the details accumulate. Lucien, the narrotor's friend, is a rake, a womanizer who womanizes once too often and loses his offending member to his latest conquest. As the narrator's interest in the mutilated man and the vengeful woman grows into an obsession, Red haze becomes an unsettling story of how closely intertwined love and hatred, passion and cruelty can be."--cover.
