Though PID control has a long history as much as its life force since Ziegler and Nichols published the empirical tuning rules in 1942, surprisingly, it has never been changed in the structure itself. The strength of PID control lies in the simplicity, lucid meaning, and clear e?ect. Though it must be a widely - cepted controller for mechanical control systems, it is still short of theoretical bases,e.g., optimality, performance tuning rules, automatic performance t- ing method, and output feedback PID control have not been clearly presented formechanicalcontrolsystems.Thesesubjectswillbethoroughlydiscussedin this book. There are many books of PID controller for the purpose of process control, but it is hard to ?nd a book on the characteristics of PID control for mechanical systems. In the ?rst place, when nonlinear optimal control theory is applied to mechanical systems, a class of Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equations is derived as a result of optimization. There are two methods to solve a class of HJ eq- tions: a direct method using an approximation and inverse method ?nding the performance index from a class of HJ equations. Also, there are two control methods according to the objective: the set-point regulation control and t- jectory tracking control. The trajectory tracking control is basically di?erent from set-point regulation one in that the desired con?guration, velocity and acceleration pro?les according to time progress are added to the motion of mechanical system. This book is focusing on an inverse optimization method and the trajectory tracking control system.

This book introduces fundamentals and trade-offs of data de-duplication techniques. It describes novel emerging de-duplication techniques that remove duplicate data both in storage and network in an efficient and effective manner. It explains places where duplicate data are originated, and provides solutions that remove the duplicate data. It classifies existing de-duplication techniques depending on size of unit data to be compared, the place of de-duplication, and the time of de-duplication. Chapter 3 considers redundancies in email servers and a de-duplication technique to increase reduction performance with low overhead by switching chunk-based de-duplication and file-based de-duplication. Chapter 4 develops a de-duplication technique applied for cloud-storage service where unit data to be compared are not physical-format but logical structured-format, reducing processing time efficiently. Chapter 5 displays a network de-duplication where redundant data packets sent by clients are encoded (shrunk to small-sized payload) and decoded (restored to original size payload) in routers or switches on the way to remote servers through network. Chapter 6 introduces a mobile de-duplication technique with image (JPEG) or video (MPEG) considering performance and overhead of encryption algorithm for security on mobile device.

Risk analysis is crucial in stochastic supply chain models. Over the past few years, the pace has quickened for research attempting to explore risk analysis issues in supply chain management problems, while the majority of recent papers focus on conceptual framework or computational numerical analysis. Pioneered by Nobel laureate Markowitz in the 1950s, the mean-risk (MR) formulation became a fundamental theory for risk management in finance. Despite the significance and popularity of MR-related approaches in finance, their applications in studying multi-echelon supply chain management problems have only been seriously explored in recent years. While the MR approach has already been shown to be useful in conducting risk analysis in stochastic supply chain models, there is no comprehensive reference source that provides the state-of-the-art findings on this important model for supply chain management. Thus it is significant to have a book that reviews and extends the MR related works for supply chain risk analysis. This book is organized into five chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the topic, offers a timely review of various related areas, and explains why the MR approach is important for conducting supply chain risk analysis. Chapter 2 examines the single period inventory model with the mean-variance and mean-semi-deviation approaches. Extensive discussions on the efficient frontiers are also reported. Chapter 3 explores the infinite horizon multi-period inventory model with a mean-variance approach. Chapter 4 investigates the supply chain coordination problem with a versatile target sales rebate contract and a risk averse retailer possessing the mean-variance optimization objective. Chapter 5 concludes the book and discusses various promising future research directions and extensions. Every chapter can be taken as a self-contained article, and the notation within each chapter is consistently employed.

With this in mind, correlations between the appearances on shear wave elastography and conventional ultrasonography and the findings of fine-needle aspiration cytology, core needle biopsy, and surgical biopsy are highlighted. In addition, the fundamental principles of shear wave elastography are clearly explained and related to clinical practice in the field of thyroid disease. Both radiologists and clinicians will find the book to be an excellent asset that aids in correct preoperative diagnosis.

TECTONlCS AND PHYSICS Geology, although rooted in the laws of physics, rarely has been taught in a manner designed to stress the relations between the laws and theorems of physics and the postulates of geology. The same is true of geophysics, whose specialties (seismology, gravimetIy, magnetics, magnetotellurics) deal only with the laws that govern them, and not with those that govern geology's postulates. The branch of geology and geophysics called tectonophysics is not a formalized discipline or subdiscipline, and, therefore, has no formal laws or theorems of its own. Although many recent books claim to be textbooks in tectonophysics, they are not; they are books designed to explain one hypothesis, just as the present book is designed to explain one hypothesis. The textbook that comes closest to being a textbook of tectonophysics is Peter 1. Wyllie's (1971) book, The Dynamic Earth. Teachers, students, and practitioners of geology since the very beginning of earth science teaching have avoided the development of a rigorous (but not rigid) scientific approach to tectonics, largely because we earth scientists have not fully understood the origin of the features with which we are dealing. This fact is not at all surprising when one considers that the database for hypotheses and theories of tectonics, particularly before 1960, has been limited to a small part of the exposed land area on the Earth's surface.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems can increase the spectral efficiency in wireless communications. However, the interference becomes the major drawback that leads to high computational complexity at both transmitter and receiver. In particular, the complexity of MIMO receivers can be prohibitively high. As an efficient mathematical tool to devise low complexity approaches that mitigate the interference in MIMO systems, lattice reduction (LR) has been widely studied and employed over the last decade. The co-authors of this book are world's leading experts on MIMO receivers, and here they share the key findings of their research over years. They detail a range of key techniques for receiver design as multiple transmitted and received signals are available. The authors first introduce the principle of signal detection and the LR in mathematical aspects. They then move on to discuss the use of LR in low complexity MIMO receiver design with respect to different aspects, including uncoded MIMO detection, MIMO iterative receivers, receivers in multiuser scenarios, and multicell MIMO systems.
