The Panama Canal Treaties, ratified in 1978, will return sovereignty over the vital international waterway to the Republic of Panama in the year 2000. However, during the next twenty years many forces will threaten the peaceful operation of the Canal. Panama Passage is a novel about one of these threats. Descriptions of the operations of the Panama Canal are factual, as are the identities of most of the Isthmian communities, geographical areas, and governmental entities mentioned in the book. The characters in Panama Passage are fictitious and they and their motives are not intended to represent persons living, dead, or awaiting exile.
