Supercritical pressure fluids have been exploited in many engineering fields, where binary mixtures are frequently encountered. This book focuses on the coupled heat and mass transfer in them, where the coupling comes from cross-diffusion effects (i.e., Soret and Dufour effects) and temperature-dependent boundary reactions. Under this configuration, three main topics are discussed: relaxation and diffusion problems, hydrodynamic stability, and convective heat and mass transfer. This book reports a series of new phenomena, novel mechanisms, and an innovative engineering design in hydrodynamics and transport phenomena of binary mixtures at supercritical pressures. This book covers not only current research progress but also basic knowledge and background. It is very friendly to readers new to this field, especially graduate students without a deep theoretical background.
To deal with environmental deterioration and energy crises, developing clean and sustainable energy resources has become the strategic goal of the majority of countries in the global community. Lithium-ion batteries are the modes of power and energy storage in the new energy industry, and are also the main power source of new energy vehicles. State-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) are important indicators to measure whether a battery management system (BMS) is safe and effective. Therefore, this book focuses on the co-estimation strategies of SOC and SOH for power lithium-ion batteries. The book describes the key technologies of lithium-ion batteries in SOC and SOH monitoring and proposes a collaborative optimization estimation strategy based on neural networks (NN), which provide technical references for the design and application of a lithium-ion battery power management system. The theoretical methods in this book will be of interest to scholars and engineers engaged in the field of battery management system research.

This book systematically illustrates the dynamic mechanical behaviors and discusses the fundamentals of the constitutive modeling of roller-compacted concrete (RCC), influenced by the construction technique and mix design. Four typical problems are analyzed using laboratory tests, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis, i.e., to illustrate the special dynamic mechanical behaviors of RCC, to reveal the dynamic size-dependence of mechanical properties, to discuss the aggregate size effect on dynamic mechanical properties, and to modify the dynamic constitutive model for RCC. Generally, the constitutive modeling of RCC needs a comprehensive understanding of dynamic size-dependence and aggregate size effect of concrete that coupled with the strain-rate sensitivity. So that, readers can master the modified dynamic constitutive model of RCC to analyze and solve the problems in blast-resistance analysis and protective design of RCC dams. This book can be used as a postgraduate textbook for civil and hydraulic engineering in colleges and universities, and as an elective course for senior undergraduates. It can also be used as a reference for relevant professional scientific researchers and engineers in field of protective design of concrete structures.
Sustainable Construction Materials: Recycled Aggregate focuses on the massive systematic need that is necessary to encourage the uptake of recycled and secondary materials (RSM) in the construction industry. This book is the fifth and the last of the series on sustainable construction materials and like the previous four, it is also different to the norm. Its uniqueness lies in using the newly developed, Analytical Systemisation Method, in building the data-matrix sourced from 1413 publications, contributed by 2213 authors from 965 institutions in 67 countries, from 1977 to 2018, on the subject of recycled aggregate as a construction material, and systematically analysing, evaluating and modelling this information for use of the material as an aggregate concrete and mortar, geotechnics and road pavement applications. Environmental issues, case studies and standards are also discussed. The work establishes what is already known and can be used to further progress the use of sustainable construction materials. In the last decades robots are expected to be of increasing intelligence to deal with a large range of tasks. Especially, robots are supposed to be able to learn manipulation skills from humans. To this end, a number of learning algorithms and techniques have been developed and successfully implemented for various robotic tasks. Among these methods, learning from demonstrations (LfD) enables robots to effectively and efficiently acquire skills by learning from human demonstrators, such that a robot can be quickly programmed to perform a new task. This book introduces recent results on the development of advanced LfD-based learning and control approaches to improve the robot dexterous manipulation. First, there's an introduction to the simulation tools and robot platforms used in the authors' research. In order to enable a robot learning of human-like adaptive skills, the book explains how to transfer a human user’s arm variable stiffness to the robot, based on the online estimation from the muscle electromyography (EMG). Next, the motion and impedance profiles can be both modelled by dynamical movement primitives such that both of them can be planned and generalized for new tasks. Furthermore, the book introduces how to learn the correlation between signals collected from demonstration, i.e., motion trajectory, stiffness profile estimated from EMG and interaction force, using statistical models such as hidden semi-Markov model and Gaussian Mixture Regression. Several widely used human-robot interaction interfaces (such as motion capture-based teleoperation) are presented, which allow a human user to interact with a robot and transfer movements to it in both simulation and real-word environments. Finally, improved performance of robot manipulation resulted from neural network enhanced control strategies is presented. A large number of examples of simulation and experiments of daily life tasks are included in this book to facilitate better understanding of the readers.
